Land of Drinkin'

  • Weeks after Chicago claimed the crown for most breweries in the nation, the news gets even better: Illinois is home to some of the cheapest beer prices in the U.S.

According to a study by the website Simple Thrifty Living, the average price of a 24-pack of Bud Light or Miller Lite in Illinois is $15.20 — 12 cents cheaper than those 24-packs would cost in the next-cheapest state (South Carolina; $15.32) and less than half the price of the most expensive state (Alaska; $31.21).

Though it is just one study and quite limited in nature, the results underscore a point long understood within the local beer industry: Chicago, and by extension Illinois, are home to unusually cheap beer prices.
Politicians know if they keep beer prices cheap, people will drink to forget what a shithole they live in. Raising sin-taxes on beer might be a suicidal move.

We moved to Florida 4 years ago. Nice to have a soft landing after being on a sinking ship. Beer however costs about 24 bucks a case here. I switched to imported beer in a green bottle from Holland for only a buck more a case. Oh well. You can't have everything.

Watch what you say. The city just might put a "road tax" on beer.

It was a lot cheaper when I could find me a case of Meister Brau, Drewrey's or Falstaff. It's still worth every penny.

Wish you have not published this, can see a new beer tax being contemplated in Springfield, that alone could fix Illinois debt problems.

Keep drinkin' boys. The Pols and the Developers, always
crusaders for urban renewal, will demolish acres of traditional
construction and install "Texas Donuts," essentially a 4 to 5
storey parking garage surrounded by apartments or "condos,"
whatever title toots your whistle and brings the most revenue.
These are high-density fire traps disguised by a pedestrian
walking area fronted by retail shops. The illusion of openness
enables these expensive modern day slums to pop up
unnoticed before your very eyes. Brick and concrete are
expensive and require skilled construction. Mistakes don't
matter so much with "Donuts": they can be corrected with a
quick trip to Home Depot for building materials.
Firewalls? You're lucky if you get gypsum coated particle board.
Incidentally, this type of stick-built and balloon type of construction
started in high density cities like Chicago, then spread out.
Just like that big fire they had in Chicago which Millennials insist
"that was then, but this is now."

SCC you must have been drunk when you penned this article! These POS politicians in this state will hesitate to raise a tax??!!! I don't think there is "anything" left that is not taxed! As a matter of fact there is tax on tax in shitcago, crook county, illannoy!!! These voters are so drinking the Kool-Aid they think they are in heaven when they are actually getting their ass handed to them every time there is an election...And it gets worse, with the fact that the candidates being elected won't enforce laws that keep the public safe, won't incarcerate criminals to keep the public safe and the latest, the new AG has decided to pursuit a prison sentence, perceived as lenient on JVD meanwhile people have been released with no charges and baby slice and dicers are set to go free!
SOLUTION IS GET THEM TO STOP DRINKING KOOL-AID!

Cheap beer, legal weed, keep gasoline prices down, give certain people free money, and make guns illegal. This is the formula for a socialist utopia. Once the people are addicted to free stuff and begin to believe in the government’s goodness then the good party members can take what they want. But, none dare call them Democratics.

You are on target about Florida beer prices.
It has been that way since at least 1990 when I first visited the Sunshine State.
A small price to pay considering lower sales tax and no sales tax on food and drugs.

Cheap beer! Apparently the super greedy owners of the Cubs, Sox, Bulls, Blackhawks, and Bears have not been informed of the cheap beer prices in Chicago! They charges an average of about TEN DOLLARS! for a single beer. Fuck em all! I pass on the beer at games.

Hmm???... First in Low Beer Prices, First in Most Corrupt State, and almost always First in Homicides. I think there just might be a link there??

Keep the peasants drunk so they don't realize how much money is being stolen from them in all the other areas due to the overt corruption and taxation.

And keep them so hammered thanks to cheap beer prices that they don't hear the bullets whizzing past their heads when drinking the swill called American beer while they're in the park.

Bud Lite or Miller Lite is beer? Carbonation is the only difference between what goes in and comes out. You're getting ripped off paying $15 for a case of that stuff.

Cheap beer and what high taxes, corner stores selling single cans Link accepted, untold money goes back to the motherland.
Taxing the gasoline picks up the loss.
I remember a quart of ice cold Blatz going for 50 cent and they’d sell it to you if you had a note from home.

South Carolina...cheap beer, low taxes and far left politicians are rare except in a few gerrymandered districts (James Clyburn, anyone?). Best to stay near the coasts, midlands or upstate....some of the parts in the middle are poor & desolate. Cheers!
