This was a long time coming - and should have been a firing:
- A Chicago police sergeant who’d been on desk duty since shortly after he was accused of touching the genitals of a teenage boy over his clothes at a Fourth of July family reunion in Michigan in 2015 has resigned.
Sgt. Eric J. Elkins, 45, had been the subject of internal affairs investigations into those allegations and separately over a beating outside a North Side bar in September.
His resignation took effect Thursday, according to Anthony Guglielmi, a Chicago Police Department spokesman.
Elkins had been charged in Michigan in 2016 with criminal sexual conduct involving a teenager between the ages of 13 and 15, as well as assault and “jostling,” a disorderly conduct offense. Those charges stemmed from the family party in rural Ogemaw County, Michigan, where he grew up.
Did anyone ever discover who was covering for this short-eye asshole? IAD was covering for someone:
- ....Elkins informed his bosses in Chicago about the case, which prompted the opening of an internal affairs investigation.
Though that investigation was still open, Chicago police internal affairs detectives didn’t interview Elkins until Chicago Sun-Times reporters asked about the case in 2018.

So what's the story then about the other allegation mentioned in a previous news article? The one that said he was under investigation for another undisclosed beef that was sexual in nature? Did 'Sweet Baby,' tell bosses about that one too before the complainant reached out to IAD?

It was always IAD's policy to wait for the outcome of a court case before pursuing the CR investigation.
Of course, that may have changed in the last few years, but they never 'stepped on' a criminal investigation before there was a finding in court.

From my experience, and I worked in IAD for four years, many of the investigators assigned to IAD are clout babies and could not find Mickey Mouse in Orlando. They did not have any investigative experience and did not receive any investigative training while in IAD. Some were sergeants, but most were patrol officers. They do not work in teams under the supervision of a sergeant. Their reports go directly to a lieutenant. If the accused has clout, the reports go directly to the Deputy. Worse of all is the Confidential unit.

Old Retired Guy Here, Again !!! Want to put my two cents worth in, on this topic, did not know anything about this officer. I was always suspicious of IAD investigations. Back in my day, I can remember a few officers were in my unit and were stripped and suspended. The allegations and rumors were horrible. We were all sure they would be fired, at least, if not sent to prison. Years would pass, and I would forget the whole incident. Then at the St. Jude Parade I would see them in Sgt's or Lt.'s uniforms, working in districts or units far from mine. I always wondered, "What The Hell Was That About"? One time I missed traffic court. You think I committed an act of treason!

It is impossible." He’s also quoted in Forbes saying that getting pension costs under control must unavoidably be reducing benefits for existing workers and retirees. The next candidate, Jerry Joyce responded to the same question: "Retirees held up their end of the bargain. They did what was required of them. To change the constitution and take that benefit away from them is not only unjust but it is morally reprehensible."

Speaking as someone that has "take it to the Fucking Bank" Knowledge....
I volunteer for a particular Unopposed for Election Alderman that has an office west of Nagle on Diversey.
Proco is DONE. No Latino Alderman/women wants to have anything to do with Proco at this point.
It makes me sick to my stomach that this "individual" continued to work, really anywhere, where he had access to children or young people. With the CHA (cover his ass) job that was done during the investigation where Elkins had sex with an underage minor who attended a school where he was a security guard, it is amazing that that case was ever charged. But it was. And then his beard (literally, the woman who testified that she was his girlfriend had a beard) and other friends covered for him during the trial. The one witness with no axe to grind was a goofy teenager who the judge dismissed as a liar. All that kid was trying to do was to help a friend by doing the right thing and encouraged him to report the abuse of power. The poor victim was in love with Elkins, had noone else to turn to, and I believe Elkins continued to communicate with him during the pendency of the case. While the victim stuck to the original account of the sexual relationship during the trial, he was so emotionally wrecked that the judge could also "dismiss" him with a clear conscience. From start to finish this was a miscarriage of justice and I can see that he continues to get away with his bad acts. Disgusting.

He would have made 20 years in December 2019. He missed out on his pension and will only get an annuity now.

When McCarthy consolidated the Areas in March 2011 we were down to a little over 750. He declared that 850 would be the new budgeted strength. You are right. I retired at age 49 with 20 years on and it was the same. I left 3 months before age 50. On a side note I don't know how you guys can stay on the job after age 55. I will never forget two coppers arguing about whether or not you can work on your birthday at age 63. One guy was saying he worked days and he was born at 9 p.m. so he should be able to work on his birthday since he was assigned days. I was in shock. If any of you are that hard up to where after maxing out you feel it necessary to work one last day please message me and I will pay your last day for you if you were born at 8 a.m..

I disagree with the different rules for different shirts(white shirts) post.
It's not necessarily the color of the shirt, but the degree of clout, as we all know.
Although plenty of over promoted, merit and cheater white shirts enjoy political protection for their fuckups and general bad deeds there's still plenty of heavy patrolmen who also are untouchable. Maybe because they haven't been over promoted yet. Given not earned!

If you’re tier 1 you can retire any age after 20 years. If you are not 50 you “freeze” your pension and upon reaching 50 you will collect at the rate you left. Read the statute or go to the annuity fund website

Sorry, I sure don’t believe that. It was a typo, meant. 50. Meant leave after 20 years and then start collecting at 50. I know a couple of guys that did it. Quit after 20 years, got other employment and started collecting at 50. What’s surprising if you do that the pension is really small. Most po’s don’t realize how those years lower your pension
