Judge Claps Strikes Again

CWB blog has the full story - once again, doing the job that Chicago media refuses to do:
  • On March 8th, Menelik Jackson was standing in front of Cook County Judge Joseph Claps to address a violation of probation motion that prosecutors had filed against the 24-year-old South Sider.

After pleading guilty to attempted burglary last August, Jackson was ordered to wear an electronic monitoring bracelet and to observe a 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. curfew for six months. But, prosecutors say Jackson violated those terms by allowing his monitoring system’s batteries to drain out last month.

Jackson had nothing to worry about. Judge Claps would be treating him with the same kid gloves that Jackson had grown accustomed to enjoying in the Cook County justice system. Rather than punish Jackson for violating the terms of probation—rather than extending the monitoring and curfew period or sending Jackson to jail or prison—Claps ordered the curfew and monitoring to be terminated immediately. There would be no punishment for Jackson’s failure to live up to his probation terms.

Two weeks later, off of electronic monitoring and on the streets well past his former curfew time, Jackson would violate his probation again by obtaining a handgun. And he’d use the gun to shoot and kill an off-duty Chicago cop in River North and gravely wound that officer’s friend, according to prosecutors.
This after being charged with a Class X felony - the highest of felonies. And he gets Electronic Monitoring (which he violated), a curfew (which is unable to be proven he ever followed), and a free pass from Judge Claps. As a reader notes:
  • Let me see if I have this straight? It was Judge Claps who wrongly convicted Sergeant John Herman of raping a crack addict. Setting the addict up to win $1.5 million for the city. Then because of Claps wrongful conviction of Herman, the verdict gets overturned some 6 years later and Herman wins a $4.5 million award from the city. This is the same Judge Claps who was charged with carrying a loaded handgun in the court building. He gets that charge tossed when a another judge believes that 2 sheriff's deputies can't recognize a gun when they see one.

Now Judge Claps lets a violent criminal out on the streets and he murders a cop.
The incompetency of Cook County Courts never ceases to amaze.

Pay your way out (Smollett) and incompetency.
This is not what England had in mind when they
established their legal system.

I didn't know of Hermans reversal of conviction and settlement until this article. knew him in the 80's in the deuce and he was a complete goof and demonstrated horrible judgement in messing around, but still am glad that he ultimately prevailed. Hopefully they went after the whore and got some money back from her settlement. Ideally, she also was charged and convicted of any charge possible due to her lies.

It's not incompetency! It is out & out corruption, collusion and ignorance of the laws of the state, Hell the country for God's sake! These people in government believe they are "ABOVE THE LAW" and you know what they are! When is the last time, no the first time a judge got knocked off the bench for abuse, neglect, or just out and out stupidity? They may have been voted out, but where are the protections, the checks & balances, THE INTEGRITY? These mother fuckers collect their pension no matter what and the coppers go to jail for "DOING THEIR JOB"! Fuck these asshole judges, states attorneys and every other politician who thinks they are above the law! Is this what everyone voted for, is this better than it was? Nothing has been better than it was since Edgar was the Governor! State was near solvent then! But the asshole voters vote more democ"RATS" and more taxes, taxes, and more taxes! And now more people released without charges and innocent people are killed! FUCK YOU democ"RATS"!!! BUT I WILL BET THAT THE JOKE WILL BE ON THE democ"RATS" because anyone with a little money and half a brain is MOVING OUT FAST!!!

So the States Attorney and the judge agreed to releasing this guy?

We are so screwed in this city.
There are political forces that are controlling the courts that allow this to happen

If this Jackson was in custody the poor kid Riviera would be alive now.

Staying fetal is not enough. We need to protest?

Well I believe there is enough evidence that the State must appoint a special investigator
to look at how the politicians are minipulating the courts.

We need independent prosecutors to review criminal cases.

The elected States Attorney has made this county a joke!

The arrogant, incompetent, useless crooked judges do not give two shits about anyone but their connections and themselves. Look what happens when a judge is threatened. The whole world stops and everyone acts like they're Gods. Gotta love when they call police stations around the city asking for special attentions on their houses when they're out of town as if they are more important than the average citizen. The clown in misdemeanor court at Grand and Central really thinks he's important.

So are there protesters in front of his courtroom? Didn't think so, your all very good at finger pointing and batching but very short on real actions. Pickets get news coverage your SCC batching does not. You have got to learn to organize and get public attention of your critical issues. Unless someone reads SCC they are not being told the ugly truth about what's going on behind the scenes. Public demonstrations that garner news coverage and a spokesman with verbal abilities would be a good start. Hell you can't even getc your worthless union to get a no confidence vote against justice system. Why are you even paying your dues when recent law allows you to cancel the check deduction. Wake up hurt the FOP in the pocketbook and maybe it willooks get their attention.

Take advice from an old salty dog, stay out of the ghetto nonsense, stay far away, repeat far away. You are required to respond to calls, but the speed in which you go is up to you,so don't be a dumbass and get yourself and your family jammed up and possibly lose your home, pension, freedom, family. You write a report, advise warrants if the jagoff offender is on scene take your time, call for back-up,complaints signed before any cuffs, if they run advise the victim to sign him up for the next marathon.

+ Lights and sirens are blue in color use them to respond quickly to blue or a blue family calling for help otherwise obey all traffic laws this is what the democrats want and the old "I pay your salary," theme should be honored!

$195,000 a year and 80% pension...he should have been in jail (home monitor) and had his pension forfeited.
Only in Cook County.

If the States attorney’s and judges were held civilly responsible for the actions of their failures things would be different.
But that would affect 21st Century restorative justice policy.
The electorate is short sighted, ignorant, numbskulled and can’t be depended on to not vote for these idiots over and over again.
Recall would be nice for starts.
Where’s the lawmakers on this?

Cook County needs oversight and reforms ordered by Consent decree.
I’ll bet Sen. Durban, DuckButter and the ILAG Kazoo RatTool will order an investigation real soon.

The family should sit outside of Claps courthouse this Spring with pictures of the fallen officer and remind everyone that blood is on Claps hand. Isn't he the Judge who dropped an illegal weapon and of course no punishment for him. Yet another entitled person in power in Chicago above the law for himself. The rest of us are on our own.

What do you expect? Liberalism and identity politics with its attendant immorality is dumbing down the population, not that there was much to begin with in some populations. We all know that black Democrats vote for the most corrupt candidate whether it's Obama, Jessie Jackson Jr, Kwame Kilpatrick, Maxine Waters, Leticia James, Marilyn Mosby, etc... This is 3rd world behavior. And they aren't trying to hide it anymore. With a stupid population, you can't allow voting for AGs or judges anymore. Several years ago, I was helping my elderly father-in-law get to the polls and I asked him how he knew which judge to vote for and even he had no clue. And he was a practicing attorney for decades(IP law)!

It is time for this country to remove the protective shield from liability of their decisions outside the law in which prosecutors, public defenders and private criminal attorneys, and judges have. The judicial system needs to be reigned in by legislation which attaches criminal penalties, but more importantly, CIVIL remedies for any lawyer (either private criminal attorney or public defender and prosecutor) and judge whose individual or collective decision within an existing criminal case allows for a defendant to be released into society, who then commits a crime against an citizen.

Allow citizens and families who are harmed by defendants with existing criminal violent cases pending before a court to be sued civilly and held criminally liable. Want to bet the letter or the law begins to be followed in court proceedings?

Is there a way for FOP to organize a week full of protests asking for the immediate resignation of "THE CLAPS"? I know judges can't be held civilly accountable for blatant acts of stupidity, but perhaps a couple thousand protesters demanding he resign is in order. Un-FUCKING-Believable!

This is the governance that Chicago voters choose year after year after year. This should come as not surprise. This is what voters want. And they are good with that. Where Democrat voters are concerned police officers are a dime a dozen.
