I remember a time... not all that long ago within the past 8 years when something like this would happen and then the area would get saturated and people would go to jail and the area would shut down. Now.. a bunch of millennials who were all born out of state and out of the city who have their heads buried in their phones drive around aimlessly waiting to pounce on a suspended license or false TRP. And the scary thing is that the kids on the job now with 3-6 and less all think that Thais police work and “getting the bad guys”. It’s actually sad. These “be the change” hires from out of state and the suburbs don’t have a clue. Have no clue how to talk to people and are robots.
Guidelines for the do-it-yourselfers:
1. IF you are criminal in nature, aka intent, then you will reliably ignore all guidelines which follow.
2. IF you are not, by nature or intent, criminal, then pay attention to the following guidelines.
3. Background is Primary. No one wants to be the one who renders do-it-yourself means upon any who did not have it coming. Background must be Primary
4. Define "has it coming" as you will, bearing in mind that the line between your criminal intent and honest neccessity is not as opinion specified as you may find convenient. No, not according to the laws made by man, but by the laws you should, being honest, already know well enough to not fucking play mind games with.
5. Consider Murphy's Law to be as reliable as the Law of Gravity. Yeah. That reliable. Especially where Background is concerned.
6. Try not to bite off more than you can chew. With this particular activity, do-it-yourself as it is, spitting out what you cannot chew is not an option. Rather, you will end up choking on it. So, minimum to accomplish maximum is the goal.
7. Take to heart that knowing your own limitations is vital to avoid fucking yourself beyond all recovery. Confidence is not a substitute for competence.
8. Crucial to never disregard: No one is your friend, your supporter, your pal, buddy, reliable partner nor anything remotely resembling worthy of your confidence; kinda like you are a cop, but without the overlords second guessing every fucking breath you take. You, should you choose to do-it-yourself, will be alone, utterly alone, from that moment until you breathe your last.
9. Beware the jazz. (No, not the jizz, ya fucking prevert!!!!) The jazz. The tune that plays inducing you to do it. Do it because the jazz is playing and it beckond you to action!!!! I work in 11 and the story goes a 015 06 R/B or tac Unit stopped a Robert Gates in the neighborhood and of course, the “neighborhood “ came out of the wood work and attempted to display the fact that they had firearms on their persons which made on of the 015 tac guys draw their weapons and Gates running from them while handcuffed. Shots were fired as a distraction nearby to deter the officers. Typical bullshit.
No surprises here.
This job is a true cluster fuck. Obama and his administration made acts like this possible with their anti police bullshit. If the police did have to use force on one these obstructers / resisters you bet your pay check that COPA would do everything in their power to fuck the coppers, who were doing their job. The guy(s) on scene have to decide whether it is worth shooting a bunch of people to keep a prisoner who is under arrest for some trivial violation. if they know who he is they can always go get him later after getting some reinforcements.
You have to use your brains out there. Is it worth starting a riot over something like this? Let the guy go and move on. If your camera is on you have plenty of evidence to go get the people later.

But, you have to have them on, keep them on until you are at the station and he prisomner is processed, or you are driving away, if it's a paper job or code. We may not like the cameras, but they are here, may as well try to use them.
I have had a building full of people come out on me when I was assistjnv with an arrest years ago, and I work quiet district ts. This could happen to anyone. Just be careful out there. I only make arrests on signed complaints with backup, and call for help when necessary, which it sounds like this copper did. I hope it turns out ok for them.

Ok, yes we have a lot of new guys/ gals on the job that are green behind the ears, and let's not forget we too were once in that same stage and Development. Yes, they are chasing traffic on a daily basis and are taking pride in those Suspended Drivers and false plates. Some are TVBs, so they are learning to identify probable cause and write I-Bonds and some D-Bonds with gang ties. Some are turning into long forms and other are felony upgrades with a visit to branch 2. They are towing cars left and right. They got to start somewhere, we all started somewhere and we've expanded. I'm seeing the new kids on the block building up on their confidence level. Some are getting burglars, PSMVs and a few UUWs. As a veteran officer of 20 years, I'm constantly helping by providing guidance and how to write paper. Because they need it and we once needed it too. We were also were chasing that white rabbit when we started. It bring a smile to my face when I see the young officers get a good arrest and I'm the first to say good job, and good police work.

Curious - did the officers go on the radio and alert dispatch when they initiated the traffic stop? Did they call a 10-1 as soon as the crowd started coming out? Those are two things that should always be done. Also, the minute the bad guy dropped the dope, he should be placed under arrest, handcuffed behind his back (nice and tight) and put in the back of the squad car. Then go back and pick up the dope. Just trying to get everyone thinking ahead...

Being from 011, I’ve observed the old timers (and I mean use that term in a good way) treat the younger guys really well, always willing to help, that is, as long as the young copper is willing to learn. I feel like the guys with time on the job in the shit districts are usually pretty good about not treating young guys like shit. It seems usually it’s the guys who have spent a vast majority of their careers in cush spots or non ghetto districts that treat the young guys the worst. This is being blown out of proportion by POs who are afraid to take the hit for losing a prisoner. If someone approaches you indicating they have a firearm you are justified to use deadly force. There a lot more questions than answers that will have to be answered by POs. Body cams don’t show any of this occurring (turned off) which is odd.

I have to agree with you there. Anyone working in 011 should get duty availability EVERY month!! I did 14 years on the west side, both upstairs in the old A/4 and in 011, in patrol. I stayed so long because the PO's working there are truly a family. The constant turnover of the CO's and captains (with the exception of the late, great Capt Jimmy LaVoy) in 011 is what drove me out of there. The building is a toxic dump and should be torn down. Besides that, the majority of citizens don't want us there, so let them fend for themselves. At least 015 has a newer station on going for it.

Here's something for young coppers to consider. Stops like this create reputations. And unlike any other profession, if you fuck up and your misadventure hits social media or the papers, its gonna take a while for your episode to fade from memory, especially within the police department. I used to tell recruits that there's no other profession to display your assholiness than the Chicago Police Department. I listened to the audio on the Twitter link. If someone indicates they're armed, and you have your camera going, don't be too stupid to lose your life for fear of getting JVD'd. Live and learn and hope that this fuckup won't follow you around to your next unit of assignment.
This kind of reminds me of that incident from a few years ago in 011. PO fighting with bad guy alone while the neighborhood circles him saying to get a gun. Some swift physical force ended that situation and was managed well although it was a terrible spot to be in.

Six or eight years ago, there was this thing called OPERATION: JUST CAUSE. You fuck with the police, you would see the of Wolfpack of S.O.S., T.R.U, Gang, Tactical, and Saturation Teams citywide flooding your District for a week. All the MF’ers who were caught hanging out “loitering” in the corner were arrested NO BREAK! Back then, they fear and respect the police. No one cared if they got a CR, because back then we treated each other as family. You had at least two cars backing you up whether it’s a domestic calls or a simply noise disturbance. We had a great camaraderie. Now, it’s all about “me” or “I hate this fucking job”.
I don’t blame these new guys. I blame the failed leaderships within this department. Clueless double merits collecting paychecks waiting to retire.
It was always my understanding that you have a duty to protect your prisoner and not let a mob take him away from you. And, you can use deadly force to do so. I wonder if this incident will result in a COPA investigation and a sustained complaint against the officer who lost a prisoner? Or, will the department say, " well done son, great skills in diffusing the situation".I fear the gangs in that area will now be even more embolden in the future. Not a good outcome either way.

All this criticism and name calling for cops who got the prisoner taken from them, it could have happened to anyone. It's a tough situation. The crowd could have started a riot. Why get hurt. We need to stick together, but on these comments, with all this name calling and criticism, it's unnecessary. Let's all just work together, is heat so hard? Many of us would have made the same choice. And yes, some would use physical force. But is that a good idea? Let's not judge, let's really just try to help each other out. We can help others without criticism.

Because they ususally name the station from the street it’s located on. ie wood street (old 13). Monroe (old 12). etc
I moved out of the city 22 years ago to the rural west. No outrageous city stickers, parking permits, and other things like sales tax. When I go the Costco in Missoula Montana with a C note I get to spend $100 when you go shopping in Chicago you get to spend $89. Big difference. Where are the 11 bucks going? You know, to feed, cloth and house these sociopaths. I don't miss Chicago, I don't miss having to be in condition Red every time I walk out my door. I am an old man, but living in a civilized place has its rewards. A friend of the family Judge Wellfield had a heart attack while driving in the Ghetto, the savages swarmed him as he was taking his last breaths, taking anything he had of value. I just read a book called "No Children Here" about two brothers growing up in the Horner Projects. This was written 20 years ago but I'm sure life there and the other projects have gotten worse. I am not a liberal just a realist, after reading this I can see it is a miracle if one of the kids can grow up to be a normal human being. The police can't solve these problems these people hate the police and the police hate them. It is never ending and pathological; I can say one thing, I am not a racist just a realist. I like living where the population is 99.9% white. I walk with two canes, I get tired telling people I don't need help when they see me coming and wait to hold the door at the Post Office. I always thank them and say I am so happy I live in a civilized place. Dealing with life in Chicago is very stressful, no wonder so many police are killing themselves.

LOL you sound like one of my old Irish Sergeants, who was a very wise man.
I work for the asshole sheriff, Tom Dart. In the jail. 8 uses if force in one shift. A deputy was walked into the ER by 2 sergeants, dripping blood from a head wound. The detainee who inflicted said wound was rolled over to the ER (without a scratch) in a wheelchsir. The streets bleed into the jail, and we're all subject to victimization, all the time, and the city and county would rather seee us dead than to have a precious detainee or offender sustain a minor injury. Done with this place.
