- For the past seven weeks, the musicians of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra have been on strike over two issues above all: salary and pension.
The musicians voted unanimously Saturday afternoon to ratify a contract settling those matters, following negotiations Friday with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra Association in Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s office. The CSOA board, which manages the institution, was scheduled to vote on the new five-year contract agreement Saturday evening.
Regarding salary, the contract calls for an increase of 2 percent during the first two years of the contract, 2.5 percent the third year, 3.25 percent the fourth year and 3.5 percent the fifth. The contact would be retroactive to September 2018.
On 30 June, Chicago Police Officers and Detectives will have been without a Contract for two years.
That same day, Sergeants, Lieutenants and Captains will have been without a Contract for three years.
And there's Rahm, helping "settle" a contract in mere days.
Maybe we need the Pipe and Drums to negotiate to get this asshole's attention?

The current members of the Fop have never met with Rham . They have not gone to breakfast with him , sat in a skybox for the Hawks and White Sox like the previous administration . The contract had not been settled because the consent decree is trying to eliminate protections within our contract for our police officers . We as a Union must fight to keep them such as a sworn affidavit for someone initiating a complaint against an officer. It also takes two to settle a contract and one side will never do that . The new mayor has no interest in negotiating a contract with us also . It’s better to continue to negotiate and then go to arbitration than to give up and settle . Duty availability went bye bye in the last contract . Each new recruit loses twelve thousand because of the last contract saving the City tens of millions of dollars . Better to keep fighting then give in !

When Local 2 was on strike in 1980 the CSO was on strike at the same time. Settled the CSO contract in about a week. Firefighters were out 23 days. Not exactly the same but deja vu all over again?

They have more talent than us also. In case you haven't noticed, there's a lot of goofs and idiots that work on CPD, especially within the boss ranks. It's what this blog bitches about the most. Anybody can be a cop. Very few can make it to orchestra level.
The CMSO is for the elites entertainment. Not for us mere mortal folks or peoples. You don't want to spoil their entertainment. Fuck Rahm.
You may also point out that the majority of funding for the CSO comes from private donations and charitable contributions. "Not" the pockets of the taxpaying public.
It’s really a shame that the city treats it’s first responders like garbage each and every time the contract expires. They talk out of both sides of their mouth. They say how much they appreciate the job we do but their actions are the opposite. June will be two years without a contract with no end in sight. At the same time they our responsibilities and financial risk doubled. On another note anyone else notice the mass exodus of PPOs to other departments? In my district alone 3 left since March. All with under 2 years. All leaving only because they don’t want to live in Chicago. Otherwise they’d stay. What a waste of money training these cops. Residency is a killer. Imagine how many suburban cops would apply if there wasn’t forced residency?
Where would Chicago be without Musicians? Unchanged? Yes, I thought so.
The average CSO salary in 2017/2018 was $187,500 and the average total compensation from all CSO work was $209,000. In my opinion, an obscene amount of money for the job performed. But then again, I don't frequent the CSO. My choice. Just like the obscene amount of money athletes make! If I don't like it, I don't pay. I haven't gone to a sporting event or bought a piece of merchandise in decades. Unfortunately, we the public are "forced" to pay, through our taxes, the ridiculous pensions, benefits and salaries of the public sector employees. No choice there.

They settled because spring is the beginning of the symphony season and the city was going to lose a lot of money in taxes. Entertainment, hotel and sales taxes. Plus an article said it would affect restaurants, bars ,etc

1070 was the 10th District bestest ever merit Sgt (ret). He was a legend for his talking on the radio all day and night trying to run everything in an attempt to get another merit bump to Lt. It didn’t happen, he retired and the District has run smoother and quieter than it had in over 10+ years. He was want a bad guy but he was the attention of all on Zone 10. And unknown officer had a recording of Mr. T’s voice and would play it whenever 1070 would talk and go into his rants. The favorite phrase was “shut up fool!” Played over and over in a reverb sound it was freakin Hilarious. 1070 did not have a sense of humor about it. Many a times did he turn red with veins throbbing in his four head challenging over the zone for the culprit to meet him in the parking lot. It was better that it never happened because he would probably have his third heart attack and never of been able to retire. If you care to hear more just ask me in the comments.
