- Business owners say since the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office stopped prosecuting lower-level retail theft, things have gotten worse. They’re hoping to see that change, and are also calling for more police presence along Michigan Avenue.
“The more police activity and presence on these corners does help, without question,” said Clayton Sussman, a jewelry store owner.
In the past week, police have arrested more than 50 people in connection with the groups.

like the sidewalks. Retailers pay real estate for that space.

There are no penalties or consequences for low level crimes ( low level in Cook County that is). No one receives any real penalty for shoplifting, pick pocketing, battery or assault. Now that easy goes attitude is being extended to theft of auto and robbery and burglary. Yes, and what is now happening in Chicago, Cook County, has already taken hold in Baltimore, NYC, San Francisco, Seattle, Portland and now Dallas and a host of other liberal democratic run cities. These liberals are making these cities unlivable with high taxes and permissive attitudes about crime and criminals. I do not go into the city these days, for anything ( but, sadly, the suburbs are heading in the same direction).
