This Might Be a Problem

You know all those gun laws the democrats keep passing? The ones that criminals don't obey? Some of our readers were paging through the Administrative Fax Massages yesterday and found a curious trend:
  • From 01 April to 15 April, twenty-three non-law enforcement guns have been lost or stolen
This from all causes - burglaries, car break-ins, thefts of all sorts, and a few "discovered" missing under un-described circumstances. This number is higher than anything we had suspected, so we aren't sure if it's an anomaly or something that was always going on. And remember, this is only the number of guns that people bothered to report - it could be twice as many or ten times more.

Let's go investigative reporters! There have to be a dozen articles and FOIA avenues that could make interesting reading.

One of the major problems in Illinois is the ability for any private property to ban the concealed carry handgun. Thus forcing a concealed carry subject into leaving their weapon in their vehicles while visiting such a place. Believe me, there are those who sit and watch the parking lots of such places and usually able to see a concealed carry member taking their weapon from their person and placing it in their vehicle.

Dude Inc. WILL ILLEGALLY obtain firearms
by any means necessary...

It ain't brain science or rocket surgery.
It's what the reasonable man calls
"common sense."

Whoopsie!
We forgot...

Reasonable Man is being hotly pursued by the
Progressive-segueing-to-Maoist "shove everybody
who resists US onto fast freight trains to nowhere"
leftists who desperately want to shut him up and drive him
from the public square.

"This Might Be a Problem."

What SCC and all the other stalwart and steadfast regulars
have been saying for years...

Now... Let's throw a nasty knuckle-curve over the plate.

Flash-back to all the breathless breast-beating about
"Make The Cops have to live in the neighborhoods they
work in order to regain "The Community's trust."

You know... That hair-on-fire-crazy that was/is the
progressive wet dream of Cop-On-The-Block/Officer Next Door.

Just-fucking-imagine the grief and aggravation of some
poor slob of a Policeman and his/her family legally,
administratively, civilly, socially and very loudly and
publicly bent over and forced to take it in the moon-pie
deep, fast, hard and dry for having the misfortune of
forcibly repelling neighborhood buccaneers/treasure hunters
from the family ship?

Especially with CCSA Kim Foxx as your judge, jury and executioner.

Or having a family member picked-off by these marauding
mouth-breathers in hope of squeezing Officer-Next-Door
for cash/prizes and of course, weapons and ammo?

Or maybe it's just that we're so irrevocably fucked-up
from being poisoned by all those years of seeing what
THEY do from behind the wheel of a Blue & White?

"Why do you old Cops seem to have so much anger and hatred
in your hearts? Isn't that against your rules? You guys need
additional training and more accountability!"

...Or something like that.

Right?

More "problems" will come to the fore no matter how much
Madame Mayor, her "smart people," the media, CCSAO
and "tha' communerty" insist that "The Problem"
is solely with The Police.

I have noticed this trend of "lost or stolen" weapons from civilian over the last two years. There has to be at least 1000 extra weapons walking around the Chicago area and not one of these civilians aka straw purchasers are held accountable.

There should be a large fine $$! That extra money could be use towards our pension or at least keep track of those that lose more than one weapon a year.

If my car is stolen, it's a stolen car. If my sig p220 is stolen, why isn't it a stolen gun? It's called an illegal gun. The only illegal guns in illinois are sawed off rifles and shotguns and fully automatic weapons. If my watch is stolen, it's a stolen watch. If someone wears it to determine what time to rob a store as it closes, it's still a stolen watch, it's not an illegal watch. Semantics yes, but I believe it is important to call things by their correct names. Illegally owned is not the same as illegal.

Okay.

Category: Lost

Category: Stolen

Category: Gee, I don't know where the fuck it is.

So.

Stolen is pretty clear. Or so it would seem.

Lost is akin to, gee, I can't find it anywhere!!!! Which may be not quite the truth....

Thus, with the Spring Season of Savagery having arrived, the few possibilities for the Lost or Gee categories are determined by: a) if the item is ever found or b) if the item is never found.

This also applies to a not quite the truth category of Stolen. Perhaps even more so.

2 dozen in a bit more than a baker's dozen of days, just on the cusp of Springtime's blossomings.

Not likely not a yearly occurance.

Supply & Demand.

One way or another.

And now, with cut 'em loose looney as county state's attorney, the market is booming.

The honest citizen, inhabitant, whatever, can do what honest citizens, inhabitants do: protect their valuable property.

The not so honest will do what the not so honest do: respond to market demand cash is king inducements and then cover their own asses.

The dummies who are honestly fucking dumb will be honestly robbed of their valuable property. Which may not be such a bad thing, given the tendency for dummies to do dumb things with dangerous objects.

It is what it is.

The people reporting their guns got stolen may be exploiting a loophole that absolves them of liability regarding their gun.

So when they lone out, sell, give or otherwise transfer their gun illegally, by reporting that their gun was stolen, they did their due diligence.

Many reports are all but pointing the finger at who stold the gun.

"My boyfriend came over and in the morning he was gone and so was my gun but, I don't know who stold it."

"My gun was stolen out of my unlocked car when I went to (gun free zone) and ccw is not allowed."

Speaking for myself, I ignore those signs. I am retired cop from out-of-state. I carry my gun when I travel. I don't know if the law prohibiting a CW applied to me or not. I don't care. My gun is concealed which means it can't be seen. No one is going to know that I am armed unless I want them to know.

I am not a Captain America type who going to get involved in someone else's business. I have never been involved in a road rage situation, subscribing to the theory that guns can sometimes make a bad situation worse.

They will know I have a gun only if I cam forced to use it to protect myself or my family. Everyone else has to rely on you, the public police.

If I have to use it, then you folks can do your duty and arrest me, but remember, I have to be alive to be arrested, and somehow it seems to me that it's better to be arrested than killed by some self-entitled thug.

This is a serious safety issue, can anyone explain why this sudden shortage and how do they plan to remedy this with known old faulty ammo?

Look a little harder and you will notice that serial numbers are missing in the reports.

But little is done to these mystery lost guns. Alot of drunks seem to lose them after drinking at the club. No ET is ever sent to any car for prints and reports are commonly done at district desk or 311.

So should we be tracking sex offender or lost guns? Not enough staff.

Look at the Suburb's Police Reports: many instances of theft from vehicles lately. They know there is a pistola under the seat of that pickup truck. Reports also state that suspects were spotted, but 'got away'. Arrest statistics are very important to home sales, must keep them property taxes high.

Were these reported thefts only in Chicago or all of Cook Co?

99% of gun arrests are “fount” guns.
Ain’t nobody owns or knows where that gat under the seat, in the party bus or the AirBnB came from.
The UUW becomes the lost/mislaid property report, maybe a misdemeanor pinch, hence false arrest.

No doubt law abiding frightened citizens are getting their homes and cars burglarized while at work, church or out on the town.
Some just make it too easy for the wandering feral invader by storing property in the usual places.
Some elected lawmakers also don’t believe in reasonable suspicion and street stops, so there goes probable cause.
Democrats like this merry go round.
But I also think plenty missing guns are reported by savvy straw buyers covering their tracks. The lax in Cook County prosecutions makes the whole ISP or ATF too overloaded to back check, especially when no violent incident is tied to weapon recoveries. CPD may run a round or two and get a ballistic match somewhere, put a name on the last possessor but that’s as far as it goes.
The Ain’t mines - Cook Co rule.

With all these Democrats conjuring up and passing laws to null the 2A, nothing is being done to the lawless violent feral doing all the shootings and robberies.
In light of what’s currently being floated around here, Red Flags, FOID violations and confiscations, it’s no wonder stuff is turning up missing. Can’t take away what I ain’t got.

Democrats do not want to solve the problem with the lack of arrests, if they do it will result in disparities.
It goes against the 21st Century reforms.
Unless Cook County gets on the ball and starts opening up the vacant jail cells for weapons violations, the streets will never be safe.

If someone reports more than 3 firearms as "lost", then perhaps we ought to conduct a proper investigation, and if the accused is lying - charge them accordingly and then imprison/fine them. But give them DUE PROCESS. You'd want it if you were charged with something, so that means everyone has to get it.

Refuse her the sale and wait for the discrimination lawsuit and good luck getting any type of action from ATF if you notify them of strawman possibility.
Above female hands firearm over to shithead and then she reports it stolen. If the feds do grab somebody it is usually after multiple occurrences, probation is the usual sentence and shithead finds another young thing with no background..yet.

Ferals load up in one stolen car, speed to suburbs, run out of that stolen car like roaches fleeing in the light, then troll around looking for other test drive cars, b&E opportunities, etc. Once prize theft is successful, they text each other, pick up any stray roaches, and race back to the same shitcago neighborhoods. I bet Suburban POs have city station numbers memorized by now.

Sadly, earlier poster was right: all the dumb anti carry laws we follow mean our protection is locked in that stolen car. Meanwhile, their feral cousins are shoplifting candy to resell to stupid guilt ridden libtards or trying to intimidate before jacking up some poir unsuspecting bleeding heart. Slightly O/T

Feeling so much safer knowing there are people like Representative Kathleen Willis (D-77) and her bill, HB-96 which would criminalize private transfers, require local law enforcement to obtain warrants to seize firearms from holders of revoked Firearm Owner’s Identification Cards (FOID), and make the process to apply for a FOID card more expensive and cumbersome by requiring applications be made in person with Illinois State Police (ISP). In addition, HB 96 would reduce the duration of the FOID from ten years to five and mandate that applicants submit fingerprints.

I'm sure bad people like Louis Robinson will follow this to the letter since he's 130 and 0 in getting away with what he does and was recently arrested with a fully-automated AK-47 handgun. https://www.cwbchicago.com/2019/04/felon-charged-with-having-machine-gun.html

Upon thorough examination, your comment, (dear witless 4/17/2019 03:44:00 PM), has warranted a Parsing!!!!

To wit(less):

If the item was truly lost - ok, someone should have kept better track of their stuff, but to fine them for it? (You leave me breathless, with your stupid here. And right off the bat, too!!! Not many have achieved this. Not many could achieve this. Yet, you did. You. Are. So. Special!!!!)

Insane. (Yep. It is a bit nutsy to lump a firearm into the dust bin of "stuff" people should have kept better track of. Sorta like you should have kept better track of your brain, having provided proof you have lost track of it. Did you happen to file that report yet? Ya know, Lost Brain report?)

How many of us have put ANYTHING down at some point in our lives, then gotten distracted and forgot where it was and had to go hunting for it? (Oh Where, Oh Where Has Your Wittle Brain Gone.... Oh Where Oh Where Can It Beeeeeee.......? You mean like that?)

If someone reports more than 3 firearms as "lost", (If someone reports ONE firearm as "lost", then the 1st question is: Why are they reporting this? Yes. This implies, to your missing brain, that investigation you feebly offer next. Right from the get go. The questions that follow the answer to the 1st question are too many and too complicated for the missing brain commentor, thus, we refrain. I use the "we" to offer mercy to the thee who can't find it's brain.)

then perhaps we ought to conduct a proper investigation, and if the accused is lying - charge them accordingly and then imprison/fine them. (It's beginning to smell a lot like lawyers.....)

But give them DUE PROCESS. (Yep. Lawyers. In title only.)

You'd want it if you were charged with something, so that means everyone has to get it. (I would consider this a "your brain on drugs" moment, however, since you have misplaced your brain and, having searched and searched and searched, high and down low, to no avail, to find it, I cannot do so. It would not be accurate.)

If it was stolen, why blame the victim and fine them? (Now, here is where it gets interesting. Reported as STOLEN. Thus, oh the many questions being asked. And the many answers provided. Or not provided. The beginning of the thread that can be followed. And yet, even this moment you soiled, all because, alas, you lost your brain and don't know where oh where it could be!!!!)

Again, if more than 3 were reported as "stolen", conduct an investigation, and again, if found to be lying - charge accordingly and imprison/fine. (The magic number 3!!!! Your anchor to your illusion of reasonable perspective, is it? Or are you merely a Cubs fan?)

So, parsing, having reached it's not soon enough ending here, leaves the following:

1. There is no law ever made by man which can solve the problem of human nature's variety of qualities: The Good, the Bad & the Fugly.

2. Like a lost puppy, the OP's brain may find it's way home, with or without wagging it's tail.

3. For those who do not misplace anything of actual value which they own, I hope this little parsing has amused you. I enjoyed it immensely.

I don't support that.
My guns are either on me or in a locked container, my house or car. If the law says they all must be locked up in a safe, how will you access one if you need it?

This has been a plan of the anti gunners for a while. Restrict the places you can carry and then blame gun owners when thieves break in to their car and steal their gun. St. Louis police chief straight up told people to not bring their guns to Cardinal games and other events downtown. The events are all GFZs and thieves break into cars. So lawful gun owners are told to not exercise their right to self defense because thieves might break in to their car. Thieves have more rights than gun owners it seems.

I have seen this double pronged attack ramp up recently. Some of them will say "I am not anti gun, I just think you should be required to keep them in a safe." Then others will say "Gun owners are delusional. The only way to access a gun in a home invasion is to have it unlocked and accessible. Only irresponsible gun owners ever do that."

I am not taking their bait. Locking my car doors and my houses doors is enough. If a thief breaks in the problem isn't that my guns weren't locked up in a safe. The problem is a thief broke in. Lock him up.

So guys and gals, word has it that CPD does not have enough duty ammo to issue, so you get to shoot 30 rounds then they replace what you shot and mix that in with your old ammo, the same ammo that has been reported to get stuck in the barrel, at least a few of them anyway , how are we going to carry ammo that is possibly faulty and then when they get new stuff separate it from the 30 rounds issued?
This is a serious safety issue, can anyone explain why this sudden shortage and how do they plan to remedy this with known old faulty ammo?

You'll take my gun from my cold, dead, hand.... unless of course, you see me leave it in my trunk as I enter a northside restaurant with one of those "no Beretta 9mm" signs and then you steal my car or break into my trunk!

I carry when I take out the garbage! Wake up you freaking snowflakes! This is war

OMG i do the same thing and thought I was the only one! I carry even when using the snowblower during a snowfall. I live in relatively safe suburbs. But the ferals travel here. You just never know when a feral thinks your fresh meat and your hard work results in their benefit. It's the 1800's wild west all over again. For real.

God bless all our POs thank you SCC!

He’s a total clown. Acting like he’s outraged and cares. Not once has he called out her terrible policies on punishing criminals.

Never in my career have I seen or anyone such cowardliness, weakness and zero respect from troops even his own command staff doesn't respect him, but then again none of them deserve respect either! Leadership starts at the top and we are on the titanic without a rudder directionless, and eddie just does nothing but squawk. Hey eddie maybe another illegal criminal march down the dan ryan locking arms with other law breakers is in order! You can't tell the player without a scorecard and your scorecard is blank!

I wonder how many armed bank robbers have walked up to the bank door & saw the no gun sign & said "Oh NO,we can't go in with our guns." And walked away defeat by a piece of paper.

I am absolutely pro 2A, carry everywhere and anywhere I say. Thing is you are not carrying all 32 of your firearms at once. A little responsibility here. Would you install a inground pool with no fence and when the 3 year old next door falls in its his fault? I would be at a loss if one of my firearms was stolen that could have been secured and was used to kill an innocent. Shitbags are going to steal, why make it easier for them.

Firearm laws are bullshit by Bolshviks and their puppets. We do not own anything illegal, sawed off shotguns, silencers, automatic weapons of amo greater than 50 caliber.

HR 822 THE NATIONAL RIGHT TO CARRY RECIPROCITY ACT allows law abiding citizens with concealed firearm permit to carry in other states with concealed carry.

"Speaking for myself, I ignore those signs. I am retired cop from out-of-state. I carry my gun when I travel. I don't know if the law prohibiting a CW applied to me or not. I don't care. My gun is concealed which means it can't be seen. No one is going to know that I am armed unless I want them to know."

Be careful there driving though some states. Some states have the license plate readers connected with the CCW database of your state(per reciprocity agreements or maybe not) and will pull you over if the car plate is connected to a CCW permit holder . Then, If they find you have your weapon, loaded, in the car, not secured in truck etc etc, , you will be in deep kimchi. And they will get you to pay a lot of dough to buy that kimchi they served you. It seems more prevalent up in the NE states (for now).

This may be good reason , NOT to have a CCW, and just carry a receipt /bill of sale for a concealed weapon. Between this new unethical practice in some states and the fact most businesses everywhere forbid guns(CCW permit or not) for fear of liability lawsuits, might as well carry a weapon sans permit, and at least the receipt for the weapon establishes your ownership, which criminals- carrying straw/stolen guns will not have.

"If someone reports more than 3 firearms as "lost", then perhaps we ought to conduct a proper investigation, and if the accused is lying - charge them accordingly and then imprison/fine them. But give them DUE PROCESS. You'd want it if you were charged with something, so that means everyone has to get it.

If it was stolen, why blame the victim and fine them? Again, if more than 3 were reported as "stolen", conduct an investigation, and again, if found to be lying - charge accordingly and imprison/fine."

Losing guns should be looked at like getting struck by lighting -Losing one would be bad luck, two could be a "coincidence', however losing 3 guns (unless they were all stolen at the same time of course) should be definite grounds for an investigation and perhaps an ATF hold till that weirdness is figured out. At three lost IMO 99+% chance that person is a straw gun buyer

I think waiting for your "more than 3 " , is one straw buy by too many. Really even a person who just loses guns on three occasions, might need to be considered too careless with guns to be buying/owning them anyway , straw buyer or not.
