Interesting if True

Rumors abound as the mayoral inauguration approaches:
  • FYI O/T The bodyguard detail will be out for Lori. Private security to take over. No Police.

Also Lori's wife will have an office on 4th fl at city hall.
Why would the mayoral spouse need an office? Is she drawing a salary, too?

The "no police" thing though - no more clouted sergeants stealing a commander paycheck (and pension) and 24 "politically reliable" officers grabbing sergeants pay, even when working overtime not guarding the mayor. That's already $300,000 or so cut from the budget (minus the cost of whoever she hires.)

If true that’s a great move. Now she should start a district by district audit of all the house mice running around with less than 4 years on the job. I can’t believe the amount of new officers that work inside. These districts are restricting time due for guys and gals working the street while some districts have as many as 5 to 6 officers working inside already. The bosses allow this and it’s pathetic. ☠️

Well, that would be a good start to begin cutting unnecessary waste. Boat loads of money wasted on the detail. Put cops back on the street. Next start cutting some of the Deputy Chiefs, Commanders, Captains etc. way too many big bosses. Not necessary. It’s just overlap and waste.

And can't forget the new "Chief Equity Officer.” Candace Moore will create new policies intended to address the city’s long-standing income and race based inequities. You have to wonder what the "spouse" will be doing and why she needs an office. Will she need a secretary too? Perhaps her role will be some LGBT advocate type thing? Gots to push every aspect of the progressive agenda.

If this is True, then she is really talking reform. The Play/Pretend Secret Service that has made Rahm feel really "Special" is total bullshit and a carryover from a prior time in our clouted history. There is no need to tie up uniformed and plainclothes officers, at an outrageous cost to the City. Rahm's Security detail takes a substantial percentage of the police workforce from his District of residence; to what end? Rahm is not from Chicago, and spends much time out of the City. Yet, while Rahm is not in town, his house is guarded front and rear by Chicago Police 24/7! The Lapdog Media has consistently been afraid to address the issue of Presidential level security for Mayors, and others, like Burke; yet the taxpayers have been footing the bill to stroke these politicians egos. Maybe this is a ploy, like Rahm used when he first came to power and attended the boxing match between Fire and Police; and suddenly everyone was supposed to believe he was a working class slob, like the rest of us. Or, maybe this Mayor wants Real Change. Or maybe she is looking to provide Jamal Green with Gainful Employment, whatever the case, the future will be interesting. Stay Safe and Smart! Baby "G"

No. They all still have jobs, but at their actual salary. So $10,000 per year for the 24 officers is $240,000 and the 2 "commanders" reduced down to their assigned rank of sergeant is about 2 x $20,000. That's $280,000 plus whatever uniform extras they were given to buy suits.

I guess private security means concealed carry license rules apply. They will not have Police Powers. No operating police vehicles, or using emergency lights. Private security will have to obey all traffic and parking laws. This will not last long. Probably a political ploy, until Lightfoot realizes this will not work. Just a suggestion, but the executive protection unit is a nice job, your handsomely compensated (pensionable) with a significant amount of hours. Why not stop allowing abuse of the position. You keep your rank, you are required to work in your unit. This can be accomplished by holding people accountable.

If she really wants to reform the CPD she should eliminate District Commanders and have a district Captain. The Deputy Chiefs of Area North,Central and South Patrol would then become Patrol Area Commanders. No more Exempts as Executive Officers, utilize the underworked Lieutenants as Commanding Officers of smaller ancillary Units. No need for Three Lieutenants per Watch when one stays home and the others work only 4 hours a tour ( ever see three Lieutenants on a Watch working together at once? Nope, you have a better chance of getting a glimpse of Bigfoot) Have Captains running the Detective Areas and a Commander over the Detective Division. Some of these so called specialized units and bureaus could be handled by a lieutenant or Captain instead of a Commander. The CPD is way too top heavy with Gold Stars that don’t do anything that a Captain (whose really like an exempt district secretary) could do. Get rid of these do nothing old timers, hire hire and hire new officers. Give legitimate promotion tests every 2-3 years so the copper has a chance to do something other than work a beat car on midnights for his first 10 years. Go to 12 hours shifts, eliminate a Watch and have more man power coverage. Staggered start times of 0600, 0700, 0800, and 1800, 1900, and 2000 hrs start times respectively. No more watches waiting for cars for the first 1-2 hours of the tour because none are available. And most importantly settle the Contract and don’t be a adversarial towards us.

"Why would the mayoral spouse need an office? Is she drawing a salary, too?"

I respond:

This has been a policy change trending in Lib Demorat, BlackRuledAmerican politics for many years. It pretty much started with President Bill and Hillary Clinton. Hillary wasn't elected to any office, yet the media presented them as co-Presidents, Hillary was put in charge of some health care tax force, Rush Limbaugh Conservatives accused Hillary of trying to socialize all American medical care.

This sh*& has really taken over in Diblasio's (wasn't his birth name) New York City. Mayor de Blasio married a former Black Lesbian women who's very Left political.

Like Hillary - Mayor de Blasio's wife, Chirlane McCray was not elected to any public office. But, she's power hungry and has taken tax $ payer spending authorization for hundreds of $ millions of tax $s.

"Chirlane McCray, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio’s wife, was entrusted in 2015 with running a new initiative in the city called ThriveNYC, a program that attempted to address issues of homelessness, substance use, depression and suicide, all centered around mental health and with a price tag of $250 million per year in tax payer dollars.

Now, four years later, there are serious concerns and calls for official inquiries into the program because no one can determine if it’s actually been successful. What’s more, due to a general opaqueness when it comes to the program’s budget, ThriveNYC has apparently left that nearly $900 million unaccounted for."

No the assumption of that the officers are paid anyways is incorrect. Those are 24 officers which mean 24 more need to be hired to staff department positions. You need to count the full salary and benefits as to the true cost of the protection detail.

So, some of you officers might be forgetting that Mayors detail is one part of it and before arriving on Location theres will be a few units along with a Supervisor from that District that is the second part of the additional detail. The “Commander” of the mayoral security detail does not have to be a Sgt. Whoever he or she is gets Commander pay but they can be a police officer. The mayor decides who it is, not the department.

So what about the former Daley body guards that were (hiding) detailed to 001 and 018 where the DC’s had no control over them.
‘Given’ foot posts and when/if shortshanks needs an escort to a function or at his beckoned call, they are pulled from the district and ‘assigned ‘ to the Daley detail!
Put those prima donnas back on the street and make them BID according to seniority to a district.

And how will it work out when for example Digby Security gets the mayor’s detail and at an event they are trying to give ‘orders ‘ to the on duty police PO’s Sgts., Lt’s, DC etc.
I realize we are a semi military organization but that’s like having a civilian high school ROTC student giving orders to an active US Army General.
How will that work out?

This is a good thing but I wouldn’t see this as a savings. Those coppers are still gonna get paychecks, just not sgts pay. Now, you will need to pay a private security firm ALOT of money for security. We aren’t talking securitas here, but an actual security company. They will need a fleet of trucks or cars 24/7, security officers 24/7, fuel etc. the going rate for a armed “dignitary” security detail, the company usually charges about 130 dollars per hour per officer. After insurance payments, vehicle, fuel etc the security officer will normally make 30-40 an hour. Either way, you are talking 130 an hour per officer. So per day, just to have one body hired, more than likely 8-12 hour shifts it would cost 3150 per day for one security spot filled. Figure them to have 4-7 and your cost is now 12480-21480 per day. Let’s say though over night they will have only 3 security officers you are still in the ballpark of 9000 a day. Multiply by 1 year and it’s about 3.2 million dollars per year and you are still paying those coppers to be paid sitting in a district. Even at 60 dollars an hour which for a security company is garbage pay and won’t even pay for insurance it comes out to about 2.2 million a year. I don’t see this as cost effective. If you have 14 officers it’s still only 1.4 million at sgts pay. Add in a few sgts getting commanders pay and you are still under the 2 million mark. I don’t see the city paying 1-1.5 million more for a private security company.

Funny how everyone is interpreting her disbanding of the mayor detail as a good sign. My question is why would the mayor of a major metropolitan decide to give up armed cops as her personal security for some Monterrey goofs? I think it is rather obvious that the sight of police is probably unpleasant to her and she would rather not empower cops that way. Basically, I see it as an anti police measure. If she wanted to cut waste and make the force more productive she would disband some of the worthless gigs the department comes up with, such as the new and ridiculous 025 district community policing program who just get park checks all day long, and the countless House mice being hidden inside throughout the city. The mayor detail guys will just get another ‘do nothing’ gig after she kicks hem to the curb

Heard she’s trimming the budget drastically too. She’s heard of Vri and driven around and seen nobody ever on Michigan ave. Word is out and look for Vri to be completely gone after the summer since it’s such a waste of $$. Coppers always fuck up a good thing

5/17/2019 12:14:00 AM

Oh, she’s definitely trimming the budget. Expect big cuts to court OT via an agreement with the CCSAO to stop insisting officers and detectives come to hearings where they know they won’t be needed. She knows CPD is top heavy, so expect the ridiculous ranks of a
Area XOs, deputy chiefs, etc. to be thinned. She has no problem culling the herd as her brand isn’t on any of those one-trick ponies. Clausen, aka Pickles, picked up lots of his intelligence during his time at CPD. He also knows how unqualified the brass is. Bye-bye “Noblemen” and ladies. Intelligence matters to Lightfoot in leadership, not race.

Private security will only be answerable to civilian use of force. Police officers won’t be able to protect her with consideration to the consent decree hanging over their head and the extremely curtailed use of force policy. What’s good for me is not for thee!!! Why would she want a driver who is overpaid and spends his time driving through red lights and collects tickets to taint her office and won’t be able to provide protection? Self-preservation is at the heart of this decision!!

This can be worse. No police powers and I'll bet each one will get a take home ride and a 6 figure salary. What simply needs to be done is reduce the size of the detail, place a LT or Capt in charge and be done with it. She needs a driver and 2 bodyguards - nothing else. You don't need an advance team, 3-4 body guards, a follow car and a house detail. These useless mayors get as much protection as the President. It's a joke. If she hires private guards, then they should not be paid with taypayer money. That I could live with.

1st thing on her "agenda" is cutting costs! Lori looked pretty pissed on tv that the little midgets administration lied to her about a $700 million dollar deficit when its CONDIDERABLY more! God only know "HOW MUCH MORE..since that wasn't revealed. I would be willing to bet that she has her law team already working on loop holes to get rid of the new $95 million dollar academy ( which I hope she does), Alderman's perks, powers and other shit. I see that as a good start for her. If she does decide to "Hate the police" Lori will have a VERY difficult time with crime in the city. So lori work with us and we work with you...otherwise, good luck!

I'm confused as to why these Chicago politicians feel the need to have security at all. I recently flew on a commercial flight with a sitting US Senator and his wife were fellow passengers. This man is much more important than the a Mayor or City Clerk from Chicago. Guess what? No security. I think that if they feel the need for security they can foot the bill themselves. Bugsy wasted millions on bodyguards that coulda been better used elsewhere. WTF is going on here?

YES you are correct that Leo was at the meeting. But the reason that he was at the meeting is because he sits on her transition team.

My question is since the detail is being replaced with non-cpd, will the officers keep their current pay grade? If anyone paid attention to Mayor Lightfoot during her campaign, she was surrounded by former federal agents acting as her security detail. Remember she was a US attorney, and she did make friends with lots of agents back then, who are now retired. Yeah I begged my way into a unit I put in for everything and kept doing follow up calls to the bosses until one put me in their unit. I then studied my ass off to make detective and sergeant. New guys coming on are going to be surprised if they retire after completing 20 years. Formula for new hired is 75 percent of the highest 8 of the last 10. When they figure it out the first 5 will be at the 15 year rate as you don’t get the 20 year raise until after you complete 20 years and the other 3 years will be at the 10 year rate. Big difference

The pension 50% at twenty years and every year

Nobody is asking about the salary that a pension is based on, they are asking about the percentage of it you will receive.
