- Two police officers have been cleared of wrongdoing in the fatal shooting of an African American man in the Mount Greenwood neighborhood that sparked days of protests and unrest after a year of upheaval surrounding the release of video of Officer Jason Van Dyke shooting teenager Laquan McDonald 16 times.
The Civilian Office of Police Accountability found the use of deadly force in the fatal shooting of 25-year-old Joshua Beal by Sgt. [...] and Officer [...] was “within department policy,” according to a recently released report.
“All 18 shots fired by Officer and Sergeant occurred within a very brief timeframe, and the last eight or nine shots were fired within an even briefer period of time," according to the report. Even if Beal was no longer a threat, there would not have been enough time “to perceive and process that the threat had dissipated,” the report said.

And, if you are still in the employ of the city where would you move to? When I retired I stayed in Mt. Greenwood for just over one year, then I had a house built in the burbs near the forest preserves. Took about six months before I was able to move in. When I sold my house in Mt. Greenwood, I got a very good price and it only took one week to sell. Taxes are higher out here as well as other fees and you certainly cannot do what I did in the city when it comes to working on your home. Permits for everything to include a new furnace or air conditioner. Fees for everything. But, peace of mind. Although I do miss city life now and then, I rarely drive into the city these days. Congestion, high parking fees, potholes and the ever present fear of getting shot in a crossfire or robbed.

Word is spreading all through City Hall that our new Mayor is calling for paycuts to the police and fire. She brought up layoffs but was shot down for now. She supposedly called CPD useless. That is a declaration of war.

Its official, Lightfoot is pushing for an across the board pay cut of 2% for CPD and of course CFD. Filling a budget gap on the backs of first responders is reprehensible. If the FOP allows this they need to be decertified.

Saw a post about pay cuts in our next contract and have to say, “I told you so.” This Mayor has nothing to lose financially or politically by vilifying CPD and screwing them over. The media,citizens and politicians have been weaponized against the police and our union could care less. This Mayor has an agenda to break the union and downsize an already undersized department. For her to call the police useless just emboldens the anti police fringe groups that she coddles. If you have between 5-10 years on the job start looking at better suburban departments because things are about to become impossible by design. Our once great city is on the verge of bankruptcy and those who can should get out.
LL's arrogance and superiority complex has already done her in. She is making Rahm look like a diplomatic saint. Burning down bridges before they are even built. Its going to be a rough term mayor. BUT im on disability and under heavy meds... any advice when IAD come looking for me as the thought police without search warrant and only using screen grabs.

That was to be expected. What wasn't expected was the cowardice displayed by Alderman Matt O'Shea (19th Ward) by inviting these agitators to a meeting to air their grievances and list their demands. African-Americans live, shop and work in Mt. Greenwood. Show me the documented hate crimes. There are none because it doesn't happen. Another phony issue just like the "Hands Up Don't Shoot" movement. Matt O'Shea walks around with his CPMF shirt but when it came time to do the hard thing and right thing by having he backs of the Police And Firefighters he failed. Shameful.

Cut services.....cut the Aldermen down to 20.....enlarge class sizes at CPS, and cut 20% of the top earners at CTU. And then make teachers
pay their own full amount of their pension plan. And start checking where they live, since they too are supposed to be controlled by residency rules. Cut out all the redundancy of too many CHIEFS in CPD......cut them down to their last earned Sgt or Lt title.
Heard you just spent $1.5 MIL for summer kids "community" activities.....cut that out. Let their parents entertain them.

Get ready Boys and Girls just heard from a really good source the city order for new detective and tact cars was cancelled and the order is coming out for everyone to be in uniform in marked cars indefinitely. The Mayor stated our detectives are, “useless” and need to be held more accountable and punished. If matters couldn’t be worse, she wants us to take pay cuts and wants to increase inspectors for more suspension time to balance budget. She somehow is focused on, of all things, our hats. She wants people suspended for no hats at crime scenes and hates tact guys in backwards baseball hats and jeans, hence get your uniforms ready.

Hey folks, in all fairness this lady may not be wrapped to tightly, if you know what I mean. In the last two months she has been acting rather unusual. Getting out of Murder City every chance she gets, trips to the coasts, celeb TV spots, publicly embarrassing the City Council, disparaging Dept. Heads, threatening salary cut backs, masking rampant murder and maiming, wildings, chaos and rumor mongering along with her failing social justice policies. That is a lot to rack up in 10 short weeks.
Let's all keep a sharp eye on the Murder Mayor and all her future actions as the strain of office sets in, her incompetence becomes more glaring and the fleeting glamour of being an oddity begins to dull. For someone being only 4 ft. tall that's a heavy burden. Stress can manifest itself in so many harmful ways.

Absolutely not true regarding pay cuts!!!
She may have called us useless, but then again, she doesn't understand she needs us more than we need her.
I think that what is controversial is that with all of the witnesses, photographic evidence, etc. available that this investigation
takes 2 1/2 years to bring in the finding. The investigation of a sergeant shooting a mentally deficient unarmed teen is completed in very little time with minimal discipline being applied. I have more questions than answers.
Why were you listening to NPR in the first place?
