Groot demonstrating again how little she cares for the unions who helped elected her, decides to employ an asshole that voters wouldn't re-elect:
- Former 45th Ward alderman John Arena may be back on the city payroll. Several aldermen say Arena has been offered the job of labor relations director in the city Department of Business Affairs and Consumer Protection. The hiring reportedly is contingent on the processing of final paperwork.
The job offer reportedly took place over the objections of department commissioner Rosa Escareno, but the Lightfoot administration has pushed for Arena’s hiring, according to several City Hall sources. A department spokesman said that the department does not comment on personnel matters.
Arena supported Mayor Lori Lightfoot during her mayoral runoff campaign against Toni Preckwinkle, allowing Lightfoot to use his campaign office at 4709 N. Milwaukee Ave. Arena’s support of Lightfoot came as a surprise to some political observers because Preckwinkle and Arena had been close allies in the past. Arena, who could not be reached for comment, needs 2 more years on the city payroll to become eligible for a city pension.
Maybe he'll be wrapped up with indictments regarding his shady zoning practices and alleged shakedowns of northwest side businesses by that time.

My only encounter with Arena was he was running for re-election and going door to door. I was sitting in the living room and saw him go up my front stairs. He then began knocking on the front door which turned into pounding. After getting no answer he leaned over the stair railing and tried to peer into the window. I thought this is odd looking into people’s windows.I wanted to confront him I was so pissed, but I thought if I say the wrong thing there could be problems since I live in the 45th. He is still the ward committeeman for 45. I hope Gardiner can take that from him as well. And of course Lightfoot will find a job for him because they are both progressive socialists who want to radically change your lives.

Arena wanted the appointment to the vacant state senate seat left by John Mulroe (now a judge). Arena cut a deal with Tim Hennegan (who lost to Naps) to support each other for the senate seat and they would choose by coin flip. Arena lost the coin flip, then screwed over Hennegan by taking campaign donation from Norridge shitbag Rob Martwick so Arena could pay off his campaign debt from the past election. (I hear the donation was 50K) Arena then put his votes behind Martwick and Martwick is your new state senator and Arena now again on the city payroll.
