- An angry Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle has sent a letter to Mayor Lori Lightfoot, seeking to discredit a “false narrative” she says Chicago Police Supt. Eddie Johnson is promoting that portrays the county’s bail reform efforts as “the root cause for gun violence.”
The city’s top cop and the Fraternal Order of Police have “promulgated” a narrative that pins the violence in the city on the county, “county judges, county prosecutors — and their failure to do their job and that’s simply not true,” Preckwinkle told the Chicago Sun-Times.
“It’s a false narrative, and they know it, and it’s infuriating,” she said.
Preckwinkle accused Johnson of finger-pointing to evade the real root of the city’s crime problem, his department’s “clearance rate for homicides … one of the lowest in the nation.”
We don't know what rock Prickwrinkle has been living under since her humiliating election loss, but we'd refer her to the almost daily articles on the CWB blog about low bail / no bail, gun offenders with multiple felonies released on I-bonds, the broken parole system that releases violent criminals back into society without rhyme or reason and the multiple hundreds of inmates supposedly on Electronic Monitoring that Dart hasn't seen hide-nor-hair of in months and / or years.
We'd say that that isn't a false narrative - that's the uncomfortable truth of progressive politicians purposefully fucking up the system.

Last summer a 9th district gang member was charged with murder, yes charged, released on bond and less then a month later while out on bond committed a second murder and charged again. To be charged with two murders in crook county the evidence had to be great but the police are the problem

Preckwinkle is sensing that her hand picked lackey State's Attorney and her signature criminal justice reform initiatives are all circling the drain. They should all be thrown in the trash as they have only served to embolden criminals and humiliate the police. Why would a police officer incur all the risk of doing a pro-active job when they know that as soon as Preckwinkle and Foxx get their hands on the case, all of their efforts will be for naught? Preckwinkle and Foxx have been disastrous for public safety in Cook County and everyone knows it. I can't wait for the elections.
