- A 29-year-old man was found slain Saturday afternoon on the South Side, the sixth homicide in about 16 hours.
It happened about 2:35 p.m., when officers responded to the 6700 block of South Wabash Avenue, police said.
The victim, an unidentified 29-year-old man, was found unresponsive with a gunshot wound to the forehead.
He was pronounced dead on the scene, and police offered no further details.

By 7/26 in 2016, 394 dead bodies, 409 in 2017, 326 in 2018. Less this year, then there has been the odd winter and spring weather too. But I heard weather doesn't matter with regard to crime. And how much of that difference is just piss poor shooting at the target? The stats last week were terrible percentage wise. I have faith, they can do better.
Baltimore is at 191 so far this year, 33 in July alone. They maybe killing one another but who cares as long as they caught the two yutes that robbed the Commish Geek and his wife. Both 16 years old thugs. I wonder how much manpower they had on that case. The dork says he is still committed to helping Baltimore. If Lightfoot wants the police to engage in vehicle pursuits then she can direct corporate counsel to re-write the policy. What do you think she will do? Protect yourself is first and foremost.
Kill percentage is down because of the new U of C trauma center. The “community” was correct about the need for a trauma center on the south side to cut down on homicides. The dumbocrats pushed it through with grants and incentives as a way to reduce the body count in the shitty. U of C, being a for profit university and hospital, was resistant to reopening a trauma center because it was a money loser. The city tracks and reports murder stats because statistically they look better now than in the 70’s, 80’s, and 90’s. The fact of the matter is that there are more people being wounded by gun fire now than ever before. Medical technology has improved greatly because of what was learned on the battle fields in Iraq and Afganistan. That technology was then brought to our trauma centers here. Think about this, 4200 people were wounded by gunfire in 2016, as a result, 800 were killed. That is about a 20% kill rate. Now we are running at 10-15%. Since Chicago was founded, we have never had 4200 people shot. The dumbocrats will never bring Broken Windows policing to Chicago so they will open trauma centers to control homicides because they can not stop the “community” from shooting at each other. Property tax payer beware, hospital bills are expensive and the bills are only going to get bigger.
