Off Duty Injured

  • An off-duty Chicago police officer was injured in a crash on the Dan Ryan Expressway. According to Illinois State Police, the driver of the vehicle that struck [the officer's] vehicle was arrested for DUI.

The incident took place at 79th Street just after 4 a.m. Sunday. State police said [the officer] Gaeta was transported to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Not much you can do to prevent this except thank Providence it wasn't worse. Get well soon Officer.

Get a baseline MRI of the spine
These things return years later with nasty presentations.
Protect yourself on medical 'cause the assholes will say
it's all in your head or you are faking it for disability.
The Machine fucks people. You are expendable like a
crumpled up sheet of paper thrown into a wastebasket.
Document everything.

Well one thing that can be done is risk avoidance. There's not much good going on after midnight. Bible Study and Bingo have been over for wuite a long time.

Never be in Chicago between 11pm and 7am. That's the moral of the story.

You’re right, it’s the officers fault. Go fuck yourself scumbag. Get off the blogs Lori.

Yeah, the speed limit on the Dan Ryan at 79th Street is 85mph, but mostly everyone's ten over.

I'm sorry to hear that and hope he recovers fully, but why is this news? Are they going to start reporting on everybody injured in a DUI accident?

I feel sorry for all those having to travel to and from the badlands anytime of day or night, always filthy, open range demolition derby Death Ryan in both directions 95th to I-90.
Maybe Jugghaid will hold another locking arms, shut-it-down march when Cook Co & Sanctuary IL quashes the DUI.

We’ll never know if this is another multi-DUI, no licensing and no insurance, repeat reckless Sanctuary IL driver.

Some of us need to use the roads at all hours of the day and night. Blaming people for being out at a certain time, doing nothing wrong, who happen to be victimized by some drunken asshole, is ridiculous. This isn't like some gangbanger's girlfriend and her kid being shot while riding with her man through rival gang territory after midnight, or the children at gang parties who end up getting shot long after they should've been at home asleep. This was a person driving a vehicle on a roadway. If you're that into risk avoidance, you should lock yourself in your house and stay off the internet.

To 0129.
I agree with you, and have told my daughter countless times that nothing good happens after midnight. But there are those who are going to or coming from work at that hour. Sober, alert, and wide awake. What was the condition of the other driver and where was he or she coming from or going to. My sister, who was a BSN and an emergency room charge nurse worked ten hour shifts starting at 0430, working until 1500 so she could be with her family by after school and dinner time. Would it be her fault if she was killed for being out at that hour of the morning because of some butthead? What time did our brother officer end his tour? Did he have a last minute arrest? Let's get answers to ALL the questions before we make judgement.
I remember a Catholic parish on the southside back in the 60's that had a 5am Sunday Mass.
Let's not rush to judgement.

im family and spent my life in the trades working every made up shift imaginable. spent 1000s of nites getting on the ryan or bishop ford at 3-4 am going home. its like something outta a mad max movie, either some high fool going 20 in the left lane on 2 flat tires or some death wish fuk coming up the right shoulder going 120 with no headlights.. no chillin on that stretch, your in indian country and need eyes in the back of your head until your out of the minefield. those people have absolutely no fear of death or dismemberment and surely dont care about collateral damage. head on a swivel and fingers crossed until your back in murika lol.
