- A Lamborghini traveling at a high rate of speed blew a traffic signal and crashed into a squad car early Saturday morning on Michigan Avenue, injuring a police officer, Chicago police said.
Shortly before 4 a.m., a police vehicle was eastbound on Illinois Street when a southbound Lamborghini traveling at a high rate of speed blew a red light in the 400 block of North Michigan Avenue and crashed into the driver’s side door of the squad car, Chicago police said.
The officer was taken to a local hospital, and was treated and released.
The driver of the Lamborghini was cited for speeding and disregarding a traffic signal, police said.

Can anyone tell me why suburban police are not writing Hit and run crash reports?
Had family get rear ended last night on way home from work. From Major Trauma Center that City uses all the time!
She got damage to rear of suv and other driver took off and she only got license plate.
Suburban officer stated she had no information on driver and that damage to her suv was under $1500.00!
30 years working ChiRaq and writing 1000s of reports I am puzzled, Am I missing something here?
So on Monday after a trip to body shop and providing a quote do we then go back to Department?

That $5000 security deposit is for minor damage. Like bumper scrape or parking lot damage.
Since most local body shops have never seen a Lambo much less have any idea how to fix or get parts.
So the insurance will total it out. Assuming the driver had another car with insurance, his policy should cover up to the policy limits.
Most people car $100K property damage coverage. That Lambo over that. So unless the driver got a 1 day supplemental coverage, he is going to owe.

The suburban officer may have gotten confused. Technically, a crash report is not required for damage under $1500 as along as there's no personal injury.
If any of the drivers do not have car insurance then the damage threshold is $500. He/She probably just figured because of the damage.
It is a CPD directive that all crashes that occur within the City must be reported regardless of damages.
