He was Intoxicated!

So to that unpublished buttwipe complaining that he worked in 009 and why didn't we publish his comment claiming there was no supervision on scene, Special Ed was having a "medical incident" and we were just stirring the pot, you want to apologize now or later?
  • Chicago police Superintendent Eddie Johnson admitted to Mayor Lori Lightfoot that he had “a couple of drinks” Wednesday night before he fell asleep in his car after pulling over when he felt ill, the mayor told the Chicago Sun-Times on Friday.

The new detail came a day after Johnson went public about the incident and called for an investigation on himself by the department’s Bureau of Internal Affairs.

In remarks to reporters Thursday night, Johnson blamed the incident on his failure to take his blood pressure medication.
You aren't the only cop working in 009 - we passed through a time or two and know lots of people there. People we trust way more than you. And they state unequivocally that Special Ed was toasty....to say the least. Did Special Ed have a gun on him? There would seem to be a Rule violation there to say the least.

By the way, how big of an asshole do you have to be to get a kidney from your own son (placing his future health in a precarious state), then jeopardize the transplanted organ's continued function by mixing drinks with medication?

The over/under on Ed's continued employment is now Tuesday of next week. Place your bets.

Did the media ever ask where he was at before he pulled over to the side of the road to sleep off his intoxication? If he was at a public place then where was he, and with whom? That's a pretty late dinner he had. A little too late unless he was at a Steak and Egger. Okay, no reason to release the body cam footage while the investigation is underway but it wouldn't hurt to name the location he was at. Come on pussy media. You shouldn't have to be taken by the hand and told and helped along on how to do your jobs. If he was at a friend's house then everyone is shit out of luck with getting any evidence of him being over served. If he was out at Red Lobster or Outback then that could be a game changer and where ever he was at better hold on to any video evidence.

What’s amazing about this story is the fact that Johnson and Lightfoot keep saying they’ll wait for IADs investigation to complete. Is this some kind of a joke? Why waste anyone’s time? That’s like having Johnson investigate himself. Or like having James Comey investigate Hilary Clinton. It’s a big nothing. Ridiculous

Oh wait, IAD will have this wrapped up before Tuesday. Closed as Unfounded so Ed can retire with full credential. Unlike a certain Sergeant that they have been jacking around because he blew the whistle on the LieTenants. His CR has been dormant for 2 years keeping him from retiring “in good standing”.

Million fucking pod cameras in Chicago, more than LONDON! What's on them? Media is all covering for him just like how they never wanted to offend Obama, EVER. The Districts Pod Camera room have a lot of this saved too watching from the station, sure do! How about the buzz word, "Transparency " ???? Somehow it's conveniently not advocated for "transparency" for this incident. No Standard Field Sobriety Check, NADA? No, force to blow in a machine? It doesn't even have to be related to the possible DUI, the mere fact he had a gun and was intoxicated, a Blow immediately would have shown if he has ANY level of intoxication to be in possession of loaded gun. They would of scewed the little guy, non-cop or policeman in 2 seconds, but all the rules are out the window because of his rank. The huge alleged cover up of JVD and people went to prison and criminally charged on reports, because of the alleged "cover-up". Haven't anyone learned anything since? If a smart guy was on scene, "Sorry boss, I am just following the rules and department policy, render medical assistance and ambulance whether you like or not, I am doing exactly what you want me to do to jam up other officers, oh wait, you are exempt and rules and laws don't apply to me, just the non-connected, blue shirts, and ordinary citizens." Now that he escaped that immediate Breathlyzer that should of been performed, he is going to go on and stick with his poor sob story about medicine and pills. Chicago, corrupt from top to bottom. Always have, and always will be. Retire as quickly as possible, to get away from this corrupt shit show circus guys and gals! Don't forget to swipe in and swipe out and be a robot bending over when Groot tells you in this Toilet of Job!!! And don't forget to shave your 2 day facial hair, because you will be treated more harshly than the Supe Drinking & Driving, by an A-Hole inspector. Boys and Girls, REMEMBER the F.O.P. contract is expired for 2-3 years and yet the liberal CPS teachers strike, and get treated like gold. Weird times we live in. Everything is backwards, who in the heck would do ******ANYTHING****** with the morale and corruption that is staring at us in the face. Don't forget Foxx wants to prosecute in 2 seconds if you make a mistake! *Exception: Free pass for Eddie Johnson

He betrayed his son, Daniel.
You know when liver transplants first started (and they
probably still do this) patients received testing & counseling
and promised NOT to drink with the new liver.
Ed is just as bad. Alcohol is processed by liver, then excreted
by THE KIDNEY. You're stressing that organ when you have
a transplant.
As for Daniel, he must feel betrayed. He'll go thru life cognizant
of the fact that he only has one kidney and must monitor his
health EVERY DAY! Proper rest, hydration, proper diet. He won't
have the opportunity to get blasted like his dad because
alcohol will hit him like a ton of bricks, with only one kidney to
excrete it. Thanks, Dad.

You guys may not like fat head Ed but we fall into this same trap every single time. You do it with the mayor and Supt. You hated Daley.. everyone cheered when he was gone.. then we got Rahm and everyone cried. Rahm was leaving and everyone cheered. Everyone got on the Lightfoot bandwagon over preckwinkle and Lightfoot was elected. Everyone praised it and thought it was gonna be good. Now, once again everyone is crying and crying loud. Everyone hated Cline then you got Jody weis. Everyone hated weis and you got Mccarthy. Everyone hated Mccarthy and we got Johnson. Everyone hates Johnson and just WAIT until you see who we get. What I CAN tell you is that it will not be a cop. It will be another outsider and a civilian who will care nothing about actual street operations but will only care about jamming Lightfoot a agenda down the departments throat in the name of the consent decree and reform. Watch what you wish for. Don’t forget, Lori already said that she will give that community action group a seat at the table when the next supe is picked. Those were the same communists who were calling for the cpd to be dissolved and for our city to not have a police force. I’m out of here in a year, best of luck.

The Sup confides that he did drink, which doesn't matter if its 1, 2 or 3 its still DUI. Everyone is different on how they handle their liquor. The news reports that officers on scene DID NOT see or smell any sign of impairment but yet on here we hear otherwise...will IAD be interviewing the officers on scene?? I hope the officers are truthful along with an FOP rep with them at the time of interview. This Mayor and her "CHANGE" campaign promise doesn't seem to be working out...There is NO reason for confessing to a Mayor you were drinking and driving and yet NO punishment..after all, why do an investigation...The Fat Head himself admitted, "I had a couple of drinks" passed out behind a wheel. What more do you need Mayor? Hopefully asshole Supt, you get fired and know exactly how Officer Rialmo felt. Seriously, the FOP needs to get everyone marching and pushing the fact that their is NO Confidence in ED more than ever. Cognac and Coke is like a speedball for working stiffs.
Multi-drug interactions here. B.P. med(s), alcohol, caffeine.
Caffeine is what they call a "mechanical diuretic": it makes
the heart beat faster than normal, pushing more blood thru
the kidney, hence increase urination. Alcohol + caffeine are
a no-no for a transplanted kidney. It's like putting a turbocharger
on a transplanted organ! I am certain, in this day and age, that
Ed received EXTENSIVE medical counseling NOT to abuse
that transplanted organ. He received a list of do's and don'ts
AND he had to sign off on it! They call that a "contract" in the
Medical Profession. It's given to drug abusers and transplant
patients. My part-time lawn cutter, age 32, just had a heart
transplant due to an autoimmune issue. You know what the
price tag on that baby was/is? $2M and counting! The heart
came from Philly and was Hepatitis Positive. They did the
transplant first, then killed the Hepatitis with drugs. Poor guy
almost didn't make it. You talk about ungrateful? Ed, you
should be ashamed of yourself and issue an apology to the
City of Chicago, the CPD, the Mayor, and last but not least,
your dear son.

If true, he should do the noble thing and simply retire. Not much more to be said about that.

The next obvious question is, who will be the next supt. For many years Carter has been posturing for the post. Prediction: Supt will be an outsider; Staples to 1st Deputy, Carter will do short stint as Chief of Patrol and then retire for more lucrative post down south.

This job is extremely challenging for any of us who wear, or have worn the CPD police uniform. With that comes many faults for which we must all pay a price. Regardless of the outcome, I applaud ALL men/women in blue who had enough courage to help maintain the safety and freedom of the ungrateful. Be careful, be smart, and be mindful of your conduct and the climate.

I take four different blood pressure medications that represent the various types, and knock back quite a few on a regular basis, and the notion that drinking and failing to take medication would make you feel ill is, in my experience, absurd.  The reason is that high blood pressure does not really make you feel ill, and, even if it did, alcohol intoxication tends to at least temporarily lower blood pressure. I suppose it's possible that inadvertently taking too much medication, or taking medication for the first time could make you feel ill, but I've never experienced that either.

Of course he was! His bull shit excuse of a change in high blood pressure medication by his doctors, doesn’t hold water! Especially when you forget to take only one evening dose of the new medication! And it surely won’t make you fall asleep while driving! It would only make your blood pressure go up over time, if you continue to miss several doses over several days! Which would damage his donated kidney over several months or years depending on his diet! Then probably, the only way he’d be slumped in his car on the roadway! Would be because his Fat Ass was having a Fucking Stroke, that rendered him unconscious! And the paramedics wouldn’t let the police take him home if that was the case, or any other acute medical conditions! So, he had to be Flat Out, Fuck”in Drunk!!!

No surveillance video of the places KidneyBean patronized prior to “nodding off” in his department whip will be made public as he was in the company of his “lady friend” when those libations were consumed.

And body cam vids won’t be released as it’d show KidneyBean not slumped over the wheel, but driving 4-5 blocks, initially refusing to pull over for the original unit attempting to conduct the traffic stop of the erratically driven / suspected impaired operator. Oh yeah... then there was the crack-the-window-an-inch-while-pressing-his-credentials-to-the-glass move. Yup, Fathead went full ghetto. Don’t believe it? Alright DUI gurus. Let’s dissect.

Case exhibit #1
911 call of a driver asleep at a stop sign.
Driver observed in control of vehicle.
Driver admits to having a couple alcoholic beverages
Driver admits to taking prescription medication.
Driver admits this caused him to become sleepy, IMPAIRED!!!!!!

Can he now be charged with DUI????

Can it be proved?

For god sake he admits to all of it.

Fact: he was driving impaired and was allowed to continue to drive impaired. If he crashed and killed someone ....

DUTY OF CARE. CPD sued.

This is a prime cause of exempt being exempt from everything. This undermines his authority. The same thing with the Commander who did an make believe study. You undermined your own authority. You did it. No one else.

And what do they both have in common? Leaving out crucial fakes and creating a false narrative. “The Chicago Way.”

Not too sharp being The Right Man for the Right Time™️.
Taking extreme risks mixing meds, alcohol and many a high salt content meal?
Knowingly driving the company car too?
Another display of his many bad decisions in that 3-1/2 year span, not limited to the many incompetent Merit slugs.

His own comments on the news radio said he was given a new prescription, that he didn’t take, didn’t replace, blah blah blah.
Somewhere it states that the new script was on the advice of his cardiologist.
Is he lying again?
Not sure what the medical history is, but cardiologist isn’t the one to re-prescribe medications unless there’s an immediate necessity to treat a current BHP spike. Cardiologist appointments are not routine unless there’s serious heart problems. Just can’t walk-in, can’t get a appt. for weeks, so if this new script was part of a current ongoing follow up, makes one wonder how long Jugg had been taking the old stuff before it became a problem. Sure it could have been a phone order but we’re talking heart condition not cough syrup. No doctor will swap a med w/o an exam, a referral to the family practice physician is who switches meds based on ones reactions.
That being said, is his condition that grave of a concern to have long standing cardiologist appointments?
How long had this old medicine been causing problems, when was the new stuff prescribed?

Anyone who initiates his own IAD investigation seems suspicious, especially when he immediately gives out all these excuses, publicly. To me, that’s stalling.
Again, I’ll bring up Merit promotions and how many did he appoint to run the corrupt IAD, two?

Groot was told to back off. Funny, she ain’t no-how Angry as Hell™️ over this.
I think Jugghead will head on out to the Medical Section before he’s ever outright dumped.
He’s still being protected by Rahm’s sellouts.
Just a six month ride into the big payout.

I agree we should be calling for his head. Not because of this incident though. For the past 3 plus years he’s thrown this department under the bus, refused to support his officers and flip flopping on firing cops.

I amazed all of a sudden we have so many DUI experts in this department. All the years I’ve been on the streets in city wide units, I’ve never seen anyone out there doing what so many are saying should have been done to Ed. Each district has a few DUI gurus and I doubt they would handle this incident the way so many are describing here. Drag him out of the car, sobriety test and make him do the perp walk for the whole world to see. I’m sad that this wasn’t handled differently. People on here are talking about eating our own. This city has divided this department. Its only happened a few times, but I always made sure my brothers got home safely and without a spectacle. I hope I never run into some of you that comment here.

I'm not a huge fan, Eddie has changed over the years. He was a good guy, and a decent boss who took care of his people. Unfortunately, the throws of politics has poisoned him. BUT, look here, yes, lead by example, do the right thing etc, you're in the public eye so the expectations are far above that of the normal citizen. We are continuously told we are held to a higher standard, and in many cases we are, and should be, so that covers ALL in every situation. While Ed has messed up, and while he has, for the past several years sought punishment for others who have messed uo, some horribly and some through a simple error in judgement or deed, so should he be punished appropriately. BUT, for anyone who like him or not, demand his head on a poke is just wrong. Each of us have errored, some worse than others, and we all hate the grandstanding and witch hunt that followes. The bottom line is that Ed hasnt been a very good leader of men recently, he left us and has favored those who hate, criticize and besmirch us, amd for that I am sad. Many are calling for his beheading so thay can run in the street with glee, but remember this, someone among us is the one who for no reason other than personal satisfication made this a oublic event. Shameful, and worrisome. Has anyone ever given a break on a traffic stop? You ever gotten one? Anyone from the media ever used theor spot to ask for one? Any politician caught in a moment of error ever asked, or just olain received a break? Call for his head? Sure, when its appropriate, but to jump on a simple discretion error, or minor laps in judgememt is shameful. And the bosses on the scene messed up, because they let their troops swing. Not everyone who has had a couple drinks is impaired, come on, you had two beers with a steak at dinner, amd a cognac to follow before desert. Every one has, but you weren't hanging off the barstool and deciding to slosh your way home bouncing off things. Neither did he. And he had enough sense to pull over when it hit him. Health wise, no he should not be consuming alcohol at all, as a human being acting normally in society, maybe a few would be ok. But it wasn't and he should have reached out, but he didnt and that will be adjudicated. The cops should have told him he seems exhausted and taken him home like they have done for many. They were fearful of his position and they let him decide his actions. Their immediate supervisors failed them. The whole mess is shameful. He may have realized a problem when he felt the effect of the mixture with his medication. Error in judgement, but thankfully he pulled over. He wasn't stopped for negligence or impared driving while moving. Also an error in judgement by the officers of every rank on the scene. There was no need for any speculation of a cover up, there should have just been the simple service we provided to so many people so many times. And a hearty finger wave to the vengful urchen who decided this needed to be strung up for all to see. Whistleblower my ass, you should be ashammed. Anyone who felt strong enough you should have handled it differently yourself on the scene then. Coward.

With bwc I’m sure there’s plenty of officers out there that’s had the call, a man slumped over the wheel and because we didn’t want to do the dui for any reason! We just parked the car and drove them home. I know because I’ve done it before. Now I won’t do it because I want to get better at processing dui and the only way to get better is practice. I still believe we have discretion and I can’t find anything that states we don’t!! For dui the only time we don’t have it, is if a traffic crash was involved or zero tolerance ( under 21 yoa). The officers should of at least drove him home and not let him drive home! Stay safe everyone. Answer you calls and back each other up that’s it.

Perhaps Webb can water his findings down like Daley' nephew.

Somebody should tell Special Ed the passing out (syncope) is caused by a sudden drop in blood pressure, not elevated blood pressure.

10/19/2019 11:09:00 AM

WHICH IS WHY alcohol use is contraindicated with anti-hypertensives. They can cause a “dangerous drop in blood pressure.” Not good if you’re driving AND impaired.

We are all in a pressure cooker on this job. That can make you want to let loose. Turn to booze. But that's no excuse to DUI, even 21 year-olds know that. Call a cab or uber, or where was his detail? People are fallible, but when you are, you have to face the consequences. Not being sympathetic to him, but we're all human. The different rules for different people sucks, but hopefully that'll change with new technology that can't be disputed.

I used to like Riccio when I worked with him in 020 way way back. Had no idea he was so connected. But it makes me sick to see him over the past few years. I bet he's salivating right now, thinking he'll get the top spot. Hmmmm, IAD will submit their findings to him....what a conundrum. This should be a movie.

Who made the decision to let him drive home when it was apparent that he was intoxicated? This is now a major mess .

10/19/2019 05:56:00 AM

My partner and I responded to a minor accident (this was the 80's) and my partner decided that both parties should just drive to the station for a report. I kept saying, 'this is a baaaaaaad idea' and of course, the dui, who we were following, gets in another wreck. It was so much fun telling my partner 'I told you so' for the next 5 years. Still love you buddy.

one thing everyone here is forgetting. we are coppers first, I personally don't like the superintendent and that goes back to his recruit days.. the superintendent and his car would have been delivered to his home end of story. 19-p end of story, no supervisors just 19-p. maybe the fat head would have learned something about real police, not black not white just blue.

He has got to have a problem. After holding a press conference to save his job he risks everything to have a cocktail and drive....
That is insane. As the superintendent, even drinking one glass of wine and entering the driver’s seat of a vehicle ‘looks’ improper. Reminds me of parents drinking at little league games before driving their children home. Extremely inappropriate and indicative of having a problem with alcohol and morals

10/19/2019 10:47:00 AM

Learn your job clown...two additional forms added to an arrest report. If that is too complicated or you are above arresting a drunk driver that caused a crash you should go back to retail.

Yeah, that's how it would used to have been handled.

But that was a long time ago and the world has turned many times and changed in many ways.

There was a time when there was respect and courtesy that went up AND down the ranks. If you stepped in it, as long as it wasn't blatantly criminal, you got a fair shake. Even the benefit of the doubt.

Now with accountability and transparency you are thrown to the curb.

Some of the bosses actually did some police work in their careers. Actually did well enough on promotional exams to earn rank. Now every boss is perceived as a clueless political hack. In most cases true.

Sad what has been lost.

Doesn’t matter , if keys are present anywhere in that vehicle or on your person, you are considered in control of the vehicle by state law.

Glad someone else sees it my way. Don’t know if any sworn boss that didn’t start out as a patrolman. They might have changed because of the power or the exempt job, but they were all patrolman. The only problem is that sometimes they forget what they did as a patrolman and suddenly become righteous and a by the book boss
