Did anyone see this coming? We mean besides us, the readers, law enforcement across the nation and those who watched exactly what was happening in California when they decriminalized so-called "low level" crimes:

A CWBChicago examination of Chicago Police Department data found that retail theft cases are up sharply in recent years across the city and in its busiest shopping corridors.
The increase comes as Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Foxx makes a public effort to back away from retail theft prosecutions. Attorneys in Foxx’s office are instructed to not pursue felony charges against shoplifting suspects unless the value of the pilfered merchandise exceeds $1,000. That’s three times the $300 felony threshold set by state law.
Since Foxx was elected in March 2016, retail theft reports are up 20% across the city. Along the posh Rush Street shopping district, reported incidents have more than doubled. And on State Street, famed in movie and song for its shopping opportunities, retail theft cases are up 32%.
Remember, this is Crimesha rewriting the law, a law passed by the legislature, because she (and Prickwrinkle and the Soros crowd) know better than all you peons and the lawmakers you choose to support. She could have gone down to Springfield and lobbied for a change in the law, but she didn't - she just took those duties upon herself.

I worked security at a large store and if the offender didn't fight and hadn't been caught before we didn't even call the police.

Under the guise of "prosecutorial discretion", she has effectively repealed entire sections of the law that was duly passed and enacted by the legislative and executive branch of government. Here is the scenario: both houses of the legislature pass a law and send it to the governor. The governor signs the bill and it becomes the law of the land. That is a painstaking process that can take a great deal of time and effort by many stakeholders. Then along comes Kim Foxx (at Preckwinkle's direction) and says, "nope, I don't like that law so I am not going to enforce it". She becomes the dictator of Illinois (at least in Cook County) and upends the entire process. Its an outrage of epic proportion but all of her liberal democrat enablers look the other way and tell each other how wonderful she and each other are. Sickening.
I'm a judge in a suburban courthouse. Most of the misdemeanor theft cases Foxx' office does prosecute end up with an offer of deferred prosecution. In other words, the defendant does a few hours of community service and the State dismisses the case. It doesn't matter what the defendant's background is. There was one case where the offer was DP in exchange for 20 hours community service where the defendant had served IDOC time for retail theft, and had several more convictions for retail theft in his background. Good job Ms. Foxx.
What is overlooked and never spoken of is the fact that 99% of these criminals are democrats and reliable votes for their fellow thieves

Mentioning how screwed up California is, they have a restriction on trimming trees. The longer the trees get, the more likely that they will interfere with the above ground power lines. The damages caused by the brush fires started by the power lines is astounding! So, the power companies began a program to shut down the power to their distribution lines when any winds are even predicted. The people who are affected by the shut downs are all protesting their power loss. The idea of cutting the number of police officers in Chicago is not so far fetched of an idea This has been called for by some liberal groups who blame the aggressive policing of the officers for actually hurting minorities and raising the crime rate. In California, voters have to approve of some tax increases and this is the reason why Los Angeles has far fewer cops then Chicago. Yes, It can happen here as well. California has downgraded a number of property crimes and insome communities the police will not make an arrest for these former crimes. Breaking into you car , possession of small amounts of narcotics and shoplifting are among those crimes not being prosecuted.

Sounds like many commanders secretaries and watch secretaries. They hold the power because the unit boss gives it to them. Not the first time this has happened
Cook County has a jail and a court system that is so overwhelmed it can no longer function. There is no way to protect the innocent. No reckoning for the criminal. About the best you can do is stand on the bridge and scream at the iceberg: Marxist! Soros!

Good sentiment, but they don't simply absorb the cost. They pass it on to the consumer, so it's you & I that end up donating to the liberal politicians in the end.

And that's the other part of the problem. While many stores will raise prices, forcing the consumer to pay for this thievery, at some point they will close the store.
This forces the consumer to go farther into the 'burbs to get these goods.
And guess who's also going farther into the 'burbs to get those goods unlawfully...

Come on. Leave JA, the new Lt's pet, alone. The know it all has been in the unit for 15 years and spent most of them writing parking tickets and taking care of himself.
We should start advocating for Singapore law enforcement and criminal punishment.
Our system, even the so called American Conservative ways are the same -"lock em up".
Singapore does lots and lots of practical punishment that doesn't involve locking people up, housing and feeding the criminals or letting the criminals hang out with the their gang member buddies and have Sherif Tom Dart Pizza parties.
!2the century England also had some interested, effective forms of punishment like putting criminals in stockades, also the British Penal Colony of Australia was a great success - let's start talking to the leaders of say Namibia - this country has lots and lots of land, very sparsely populated - the per convict costs in Namibia have to be less than 1/10th the cost here in Cook County.
Convicts could be in much better physical and mental shape if they were made to physical labor outside - nothing Gulag, slave labor, just army style - get up in the morning, get a healthy breakfast then build roads that sort of thing.

WALGREENs closed a store in Gresham last week and the Alderman is complaining about it. The reason the store closed is it was losing money because of the loss of inventory due to theft.

Walgreens had a policy where the cost of security to stop the loss of inventory came out of the same budget that the store manager gets his bonus from. Guess who was let go?
