- Boston man Jean-Paul LaPierre, who caught a Blue Line train Sunday morning to the Chicago Marathon, said he didn’t hesitate to act when he heard someone was robbing people on the train.
“I don’t like people that strike fear in people like that,” he said. “I don’t like bullies.”
A man boarded the train about 5:50 a.m. and showed a handgun to passengers while demanding their money in the 5800 block of North Cumberland Avenue, Chicago police said.
“He was very quietly robbing people,” LaPierre said. “I went up front and said to him, give me the gun and we started fighting for the gun.”
It must have been a fake gun, because the CTA has all those signs up that don't allow guns.
But regardless, this guy was in town to run the marathon, turns around and solves crime, takes a gun off the street and seems is a likeable person. Groot could do worse.

Whilst i totally agree, especially the LEO part,sadly, the sheeple are trained not to resist, but to surrender, wait for LEO. Th8s is especially for women. Most wouldn't know a self defense move from a piece of candy. Those who've survived know you must act within the first few seconds to break the criminal's pattern. We only learned that fact if we've taken a self defense course. Most take self defense courses after being assaulted, unless a company or community sponsors REAL self defense courses. The other self defense issue taught, is often the victim/Non LEO responder must point to someone and give directions. Most are mesmerized and freeze when bad things happen.

I did not know that we even have a " Mass Transit Unit". You never see them on the trains. The tact teams used to hide in private clubs all day.

I saw the photos of the guy with brass balls holding the shithead up against the train. Meanwhile everyone around him pretended like nothing was going on playing with their phones. Not one person stood up to help.

What an act of heroism taking a gun away from someone who was robbing the other cowardly passengers, and then getting no help from from them after he takes the gun away from the offender. We know the other passengers won’t appear in court as witnesses as they would have to admit they did nothing. The court case will go nowhere or he will plea to a disorderly. When Jayne Byrne was Mayor she always took care of people who were hero's. Let’s hope somebody takes care of this guy.
I grew up on the west side, near Austin and Lake St. Early in high school there was a big oaf who used to bully me. I know how that feels. One day the bully was doing his thing in an alley amid a bunch of other kids. I had a piece of iron pipe and came up behind asshole bully. I swung for the fences and got a beautiful hard hit on the side of asshole's head. I will never forget the sound of the clunk as pipe contacted head. Bam ! No need to swing any more. He went down right quick and was unconscious. He lived and never again bothered me. Bravo to the guy from Boston although I was hoping he would put the asshole on the train down fast and hard. They learn better that way.
