The way we're hearing it is as follows:
- The theater continues as seen in this weekend's news articles:
- Mayor Lori Lightfoot, in a video posted to Twitter Monday afternoon, said she hoped the two sides could use Monday’s negotiations to “build on the progress that we’ve made and come together for the good of our teachers, our students and our city.”
Her message struck a conciliatory tone following a rocky 24 hours over the weekend that saw the two sides attack each other after an “angry” bargaining session Friday, then regroup for a “productive” meeting Saturday.
- The teachers walk out Thursday, just to prove they can do it. Why have a vote unless you can flex that muscle?
- After marching Thursday and Friday, "progress" happens Friday/Saturday and everyone goes back to school Monday.
We actually know some teachers, and they are not happen with the "social justice" stunts being pulled in their names. They're not prepared to lose a full paycheck and delay summer plans over this nonsense and they've told Sharkey's people that. We'll see in short order.
In the meantime, Escamerit's 025 Day Care Pilot Program is filling up fast! Only a few spots remain and if construction starts on reopening Area 5, there might be last-minute overbooking possibilities.

Don’t forget Lori also told them if the strike she will give them full pay at the end! What’s to lose,days off vacation and full pay how about a no strike clause in the overly generous contract you know “for the children,” tag line? Like police and fire have because we are “essential,” are teachers not “essential?”
Why isn’t anyone talking about the Chicago park district strike scheduled for the 17th? Lori really has his hands full. CTU possible strike, Chicago park district possible strike, no contract for FOP or PBPA, sure how CFD is doing. I’m no fan of the mayor , but god damn , teachers are passing up a 16% raise !? Teachers work 9 months out of the year. They never work holidays , weekends or summers , unless they’re doing summer school for what turns out to be roughly $ 75 an hour. Teachers only pay 2% into their pension when the rest of the city workers pay 9% or more. I think these teachers seem a bit greedy with this strike and maybe the city should end talks and cut these fuckers off at the knees. It’s been over two years for us with no contract and the city hasn’t even attempted to negotiate. Fuck these teachers.

I was at that rally with my wife. Karen Lewis spoke after that teacher and said "We need the police, and the police are not going away". My wife and other teachers support their husbands who are Chicago Police.

I worked for the Archdiocese for many years. I switched over to CPS for the money to send my children to Catholic schools and the pension. Believe me when I say, there are many teachers in CPS and in CTU that do not support their ideas. The strike in 2012 was a circus. Retired now after 23 years in CPS and 16 years in the Archdiocese of Chicago. God Bless CPD! I don’t know what we would have done without Sarge in our school! God Bless you and your families!

well, you have a point there, a small one, but a point. The teachers garner sympathy and no one wants their kids not in school, especially those parents who have to work. But, a masters degree? It is not needed to teach grade school and most high school courses. And, that is a proven fact, just look up the Duke University study for one and there are others. Graduate degrees do not make a difference in teaching ability. What the teachers union should do is get rid of the dogs and stop protecting the molesters for starters. If there is a hot call at a CPS, i certainly will take my time getting there. Let those socialists with masters degrees handle things until I get there.

Moderate CTU members, of which I am one among many, are disgusted with the leadership of this Union and in particular the rank and file members hell bent on enforcing their pie in the sky vision of socialism on the rest of us. The cancel culture is alive and well in CTU, regardless of how much Jesse and Stacy boast about about CTU being a grand democracy. There is little to no room for discussion unless it reaffirms what the leadership wants. If it doesn't, you're labeled a racist or evil capitalist sympathizer in short order. The irony of ironies is that members of our executive board traveled to Venezuela this summer and found it to be a paradise. If they found it so idyllic, I don't think they'd be advocating for a 16% raise. After all, if we're all brothers and sisters in The Struggle, then we should suffer hyper inflation and stagnant wages like Socialist countries experience.

Ours is a different pension. Not going to happen. Several bills were passed forcing city to put in their required amounts
Teacher missed payroll checks should go to pay city underfunded pension funds.
I wish police and fire could strike. The "NO STRIKE CLAUSE" and "RESIDENCY" are two of the most damaging items in the contract hurting the police in our contract talks over the many many years since we first obtained a contract with the City of Chicago.
