The Interim Supe stopped by Area Central this afternoon, shook hands around the floor, and told people that he'd only be here three months.
He also told detectives on the floor that he knows cops don't like change, but there's going to be quite a bit coming up.
We certainly hope he wouldn't lie to us, because once you violate that trust, not a single cop is going to buy into your vision (or Groot's vision) starting on 002 March 2020.
Any bets about this time next week, we'll know exactly what direction everything is heading?

Lots of changes? More likely it will be more goofy training and reporting to sooth the snowflakes feelings. Recruits are given crap training. It's rare to meet a PO that can give good police service for the most routine types of calls. Would you want the average PO to respond to a traffic crash, burglary, robbery that your family/friends are a victim of?

Hopefully Lightfoot knows how corrupt the promotion process has been with friends and family getting rich, that she takes down all lists and ends merit promotions. What someone should do (SCC) is compile in bullet points a list of legitimate problems/ corruption in the department. Things like Escamilla's babysitting service, the lieutenant's exam scandal, etc... and make it printer friendly, you know, in case someone wants to slip it on his desk..

As far as all of this " change" coming up, after a lifetime in the city and a lifetime in the department, I remain skeptical and will give it a " wait and see". Politics controls the city and the police department. It has made everyone cynical and distrusting.
Beck could improve this department 100% with one order. Abolish ALL exempt positions. Return all exempt to their real ranks, the ranks they held before they gave away their integrity for cash and power and their beloved white shirts and gold stars. It will never happen! Easy one's first: winter uniform's, sloppy appearance, clean shaving, hair styles, etc. Real problems upcoming are: who do you trust, who gets dumped and who gets moved up (and on who's reliable recommendation). Kill Merit promotions. Will he allow the SGT's exam to continue and promote for the first time in years a legitimate list of new SGT's from that list. That would send a messages to the political fucks out there. Now is the time to break the back of corruption. Clean house and drive out many of the corruptors in the command structure. Call out Foxx and her incompetence, investigate the cheating scandal, clean house in IAD.
Does that sound like a bit too much. Maybe?, but if you complete half of it - it's a good start. Besides if you want to be a change agent then make it happen. Trump is draining the swamp in DC. I'm sure he has a lot more on his plate than appearance and there are more important issue to deal with. I would like to see a complete over haul of the command structure, discipline streamlined and an abundant of other issues than would make this a better work environment. If there's any truth to this, it's long overdue.
With the exception of the vests under your shirt, which gets very hot & bulky, I agree with these changes.
In the mid 80's when I came on, it was crown hat, 80/20's, short sleeve or long sleeve with a tie and 3 outer jackets. Leather, spring/fall & the long nylon coat. No gym shoes.
Gotta admit, everyone including myself, got really lax as time went on but we (again me included) did look pretty sloppy.

1) Fuck the Clown Cap, it is without a doubt the most useless piece of the uniform that ever existed. Wearing it doesn't command respect, sorry to break it to you old salty fucks. And before you open your pie-hole I've got 25 on so I've been around the joint a little bit. It should be for Dress Blues ONLY. It has no purpose on the street. The baseball cap serves to help with shielding your eyes on sunny days which make it easier to see. I'll wear a knit cap in the winter and take a SPAR every day. This isn't L fucking A and 80 degrees every day.
2) Vests under the shirt are impractical. The vest cover serves as a carrier for many of the tools we carry. Taking away the vest cover is impractical.
3) Leather duty belt and gear weighs more than nylon. If you don't think that is important ask some guys or girls with some significant time OTJ and ask them how their back health is. I'm going to utilize anything that lessens the weight around my waist on a daily basis while sitting in a fucking cage that lacks room to sit properly.
4) Don't really have an opinion on shoes, other than they be black and 100% of the same surface material.
5) I will not wear a tie. Even the clip-on tie is an impractical piece of the uniform. We are police officers, not fucking office workers. Besides, it is a safety issue. The clip-on tie can serve as a means to strangle a PO. Nope, won't wear it, fucking SPAR me. Make the tie a part of office/HQ uniform, not the street.
6) This should be obvious.
7) The cargo pants allow for PO's to carry tools of the job. FOP book, cell phone, secure money pocket, etc. Make the old 80/20 pants part of the office/HQ uniform.

The “specialized” units, especially those at Homan Square will be history. The ghosts at Homan will now have to actually show up for work.
In case any of you missed the words of the Mayor, lying will be dealt with in the harshest of ways. Rule 14 violators will be reported to the Illinois Training Standards Board and the Mayor will let them de-certify the parties and then CPD will just have to sweep them off the books

Men have been growing beards since the dawn of time. Be patient. A few years after you go through puberty you may be able to grow one also. Good luck kid!

1) Fuck the Clown Cap, it is without a doubt the most useless piece of the uniform that ever existed. Wearing it doesn't command respect, sorry to break it to you old salty fucks. And before you open your pie-hole I've got 25 on so I've been around the joint a little bit. It should be for Dress Blues ONLY. It has no purpose on the street. The baseball cap serves to help with shielding your eyes on sunny days which make it easier to see. I'll wear a knit cap in the winter and take a SPAR every day. This isn't L fucking A and 80 degrees every day.

I'll agree with you on every point but this one. Being an old salty fuck myself with a couple more than 25 on, I do believe the round crown does command respect. Read about bad guys who shot and killed officers. One of the things they size up is your appearance. What doesn't command respect is your backwards, moldy, broken down baseball cap. They look like shit. Now if you have a supervisor that will counsel/SPAR you for wearing it backwards, or tell you to get a new one after its been in your back pocket for 5 years, I might go along with it. But we all know, supervisors aren't going to do that. You are the POLICE, not an andy frain at the Cubs game. Look like one. I do agree with the knit hat for our -30 degree days (although I think it looks stupid) as long as it is worn with the police star on the front, not sideways like everyone does.

Stop your bull shit. You will do as your told or you will go home without pay. Your reasons are invalid and you know it. Stop pretending you know what you are talking about. Go get your shine box and shine your shoes you sloppy piece of poor excuse to be the police.
Uniform changes that will immediately begin are: wearing the crown hat, vest underneath the shirt, no more cargo pants, ties and no more gym shoes. This will be done with a stroke of the pen. Order coming out in one week. Every PO was trained with vest underneath the shirt. Like it or not, it’s done. Vest covers are no longer an optional item. Not sure about the dark blue shirt/dark plants. No more cargo pants. No more fleece jackets. Sweater only with tie. Leather jacket will also be gone. Uniform will be UNIFIED for whole CPD.
I’m pissed because I just bought those under armorer turtle necks. I hate that stupid tie. Better not be caught without the tie clip. Commander and Captain will be held accountable for every uniform infraction. This place sucks.
This dude is not playing. We are in for some real discipline. Any PO or supervisor wearing old torn uniforms will be sent home. Worn out duty belts and pouches will NOT be worn. Expect a first issue for dark blue pants with dark blue shirts like LAPD does. We in for some serious uniform adjustments. I ain’t taking no time.

The first change Beck is making is dealing with the new uniform. Beck is strict on appearance and on being in the proper uniform.
1) No more baseball caps. No more knit hats. Crown cap only.
2) No more outer vest covers. The vest will be worn under the uniform shirt.
3) Leather duty belt only and gear.
4) No more gym shoes or athletic shoes. Shoes will be polished and shined.
5) Tie only with long sleeve uniform shirt.
6) Clean white T shirt with short sleeve uniform shirt.
7) No more cargo pants for patrol.
8) No more ghetto hair styles for men and women. Women better have hair up and not down.
9) No more beards in uniform.
10) Anyone caught not complying will be sparred to include Sgt and LT.

Take a Jiu Jitsu class sometime. Not original poster, but I'll strangle you with your t-shirt collar. A clip on tie I can rip off you easily and garrote you from your back with? You don't need to be giving anyone such tools to choke you out.
