- A former Chicago police commander who bilked the federal government out of more than than $360,000 in Social Security payments admits in a new court document he was “motivated by greed” but argues for probation instead of a prison sentence recommended by prosecutors.
Kenneth A. Johnson, who led the Englewood patrol district for two years ending with his retirement last year, is scheduled for sentencing Tuesday. He pleaded guilty to collecting the payments — intended for his mother — for more than two decades after her 1994 death.
Meanwhile, remember that just last week a criminal (masquerading as a cop) got eighteen months for taking a mere $10,000 in "finder fees."

The feds are fond of sending convicted police officers to a federal penitentiary far from their home states. This makes it difficult for the inmate and also for his family should they care to visit him. This asshole should go to Afghanistan.

Just being a police officer during that time does not keep him from receiving a pension. It has to be related to or arising out of or in connection with his service as a policeman
According to the Illinois Pension Code, “none of the benefits…shall be paid to any person who is convicted of any felony relating to or arising out of or in connection with his service as a policeman
The amazing part of this case is that the Govmint only wants the $350k he stole back...which he ain’t got, not even in tangible assets.
This sort of crime is more prevalent than anyone knows. Slack ass record keeping, documentation, failures to report makes it too easy to commit Fed/State entitlemints fraud including Medicare/Medicaid, SNAPS, SSI, etc. The greedy mope shouldn’t be the only one complicit, someone else wasn’t doing their job.

The kicker in all of this is that many of us have worked jobs and contributed into social security for many years before getting on the police department, and are getting screwed by the Windfall Elimination Provision, which greatly reduces s.s. benefits we earned. And to top it off skinny was stealing from us. Seems like the deck is always stacked against the honest workingman.

The truly sad part is that my mother, a widow of a retired CPD officer, is barely getting by on what she gets from his pension and her meager social security check yet this POS, along with his newly meritoriously promoted to sergeant girlfriend, are living large on a Commander's retirement pension, her new Sergeant pay and a little sumtin sumtin extra from momma... Disgraceful. No shame.
