About 10 years ago, prior to their retirement, exempt members began stepping down in rank for the last period or two in order to have bargaining unit coverage and health at 55 as they leave. They step down in pay but usually maintain their position as they transition out. I wouldn't look too much into his stepping down at this point. The bigger issue is that if he steps down and leaves on Jan 1, effective Jan 1, does he get his 10 bfd and p-days as well as his 25 V days? If so that's a nice little severance package.

I’ve never understood the people that say someone “has to do 29 years etc.” Shes already accumulated enough time on the job and in very high paying grades to get a very hefty pension tomorrow. If she hasn’t positioned herself for financial success by now, and with that pension, then there’s a huge problem. I know many at the PO rank who left with just 20,21,22 years on and are doing just fine. Retirement dates are all relevant.

About 10 years ago, prior to their retirement, exempt members began stepping down in rank for the last period or two in order to have bargaining unit coverage and health at 55 as they leave. They step down in pay but usually maintain their position as they transition out. I wouldn't look too much into his stepping down at this point. The bigger issue is that if he steps down and leaves on Jan 1, effective Jan 1, does he get his 10 bfd and p-days as well as his 25 V days? If so that's a nice little severance package.
Why wouldn’t he or she get that. Just like any, po, set, Sgt or Lt. What would be different. If a po retires on January 1 he gets those benefits

For what it's worth the new commander of the airport is the perfect person for the job. As the lieutenants of the airport unit he is called on every call imaginable. If they would have brought in somebody else they would be lost. It's not a cake walk there that's for sure and for someone else to be made commander of the airport they would have had way too much to deal with and they would have been over their heads.

I look at the job of CPD officer as a game — how well can I avoid any situation which may place myself in financial ruin and/ or physical harm? So far, I’ve been brilliant at it. For you see, “staying fetal” is an introductory lesson of a much broader idea born of modern day policing. Staying fetal places you in a vunerable position, because when you avoid any type of work you’re opening yourself to the dreaded “person with a gun, possible mental” type of calls which have put you in the trick bag before you’ve even arrived. You WANT to do work, but the right kind of work. The type of calls with low probability of turning south where you can waste a few hours in the process.
For example:
I start every day by looking at pending calls within the district. Robberies, thefts, any violent crime which has occurred and the offender has fled you want to volunteer yourself for paper. No one questions this action, from the dispatchers to supervisors. If it’s domestic related avoid it.
Another good one is noticing an accident pending on the board and just happening to drive by. “We have a hand-waver here....” Well now it’s my duty to assist these citizens and relocate

Well here we go. There is going to be an office formed of 14 POs a Sgt and a Lt to track swiping and if an officer is not in compliance send out the spar notification. So if you are late swiping in or earlier than the 7 min you are not in compliance. It will be under IAD. Starting after the first of the year. Daily swipe reports for every district and unit will be generated with the people not in compliance spared. It will start with a to from and counseling then counsel, violation noted, reprimand then time off. Not swiping out for OT will start at automatic reprimand and a “no swipe” for an entire tour is starting at 1 day off.
Where the heck do you guys get this from?? I can absolutely tell you this is 100 percent not true. Maybe one day? Who knows but I can tell you there is absolutely no plan for a “special formed unit” especially in IAD for this swiping stuff. Another troll just trolling. Relax people. There is a good core group current Sergeants and Lieutenants on the CPD who can all move up to the next level should this Mayor create a fair process. A process that will allow those talented persons to have an actual equal opportunity to display their knowledge and capabilities that will set aside politics, cheating, and associations. Embedded in this group are many who have been working this job for years while at the same time making academic achievements and preparing for that next step. There are many with advanced degrees including Masters Degrees, Doctoral recipients and Juris Doctors. There are many who have honorably served this country in the Military and know how to lead. If Lori Lightfoot does NOT get rid of the majority of the current and newly promoted command and captain staff of CPD,she will be unable to "reform" and " improve" CPD.

She CANNOT fire him. He is a sworn police officer of the Chicago Police Dept. No police officer can be fired on the spot for anything. There MUST be an investigation into a compliant and then a recommendation of punishment which could include firing. She can "fire" him from his position as superintendent but then he would revert back to his rank of lieutenant. If she had that instant power she would have fired Nagode. His exempt rank was just taken away but he is still employed.
No retro pay if no contract. Contract must also include a raise to generate retro pay. After taxes it might be enough to pit new tires on your ride.
The department is doing Escamerit a favor. They want to make him number 1. O'Shield and Curtin were both hated by the troops and by downtown so they buried them in 25 and 15. They are going to leave Escamerit in 25 till he has been there longer than either of the other two assholes so he can then say he is "Number 1." He sure as hell can't say that with ANY of the promotional tests he has taken.

By making these "fantastic" arrests you buck up the numbers for arrests in 011. This has a couple of consequences. More police are assigned to 011 because of the high number of arrests and to cover for you while you are down for 5 hours on a weed arrest. This takes manpower out of the law abiding neighborhoods so they are free to be burglarized. Its time for someone to take a hard look at the tact team arrests and see if they wouldn't be better reassigned to the watch.

They are usually asked to sign a resignation letter when the get the job that can be submitted at anytime by the mayor. Common practice in business also
