- The Los Angeles Police Department is working to help prevent its officers from contracting coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) though a series of new guidelines and procedures and by issuing new gear.
Asst. Chief Horace Frank told the Los Angeles Times that all patrol officers and officers likely to come into contact have been issued a kit consisting of multiple sets of gloves, a bacteria protection mask and goggles.
Officers are directed to use all three items during a response or public contact involving an induvial who could have the virus.
The department has already backordered 100,000 extra masks, but the officers will not wear masks as a routine matter.
And here's what CPD is doing:
- SCC, They called cars down to HQ to pick-up CoronaVirus safety packages on Monday. On Tuesday they distributed three boxes of rubber gloves and two - you read that correctly - a total of two PPE kits (mask, paper apron, gloves, shoe covers) to be carried in each sector sergeant car. Is there a District with less than 200 officers? That's it. No wipes, no hand sanitizer, no sprays. We are doomed.
We certainly feel safer.

Then you touch your face, a recipe for disaster. Also think about all the places you go during the tour, you go to a restaurant and touch the table, you buy something and get change, you use a door handle that hundreds of people touched before you. They did a study of medical students listening to a lecture and found that they touched their faces on the average of 23 times an hour. And being in the medical field they should know better. The vast majority of people you come in contact with will not have the Coronavirus, you are more likely to pick up the flu or common cold virus. So until we see where this pandemic is going in Chicago be extremely careful.
Don’t worry ... coronahysteria is being whipped up by the media ... getting the virus is not that bad unless you are elderly AND already ill. We’ll all survive this. Death rate is not 1-2% - actually a lot lower b/c 80% of people don’t know they have it. Count them in and the death rate is tiny.

This department's response to anything serious is laughable. They do not care if you are unnecessarily put in harms way and have proven this countless times over. You would think at minimum they would have sanitizing equipment available throughout the stations including wipes ,hand gel, spray, etc. Or have cleaning crews do thorough sanitation scrubs throughout the station, especially the bathrooms and high traffic places. So far I've seen the same old dirty mops using recycled dirty water and minimal to no cleaning at all. And their protocol to handle these situations, should a majority of the officers fall ill, is just as negligent; cancel days off, mandatory OT and overwork those that are left standing until they drop. This is the best solution an army of upper management hacks with six figure salaries can pull out of their asses.
And how do you identify someone who is carrying corona??

Great Plan....Just like the "Anthrax" scare, back away and call CFD HazMat. They are way better equipped. I remember FOP 7 complaining about lack of protection in the Anthrax hysteria. The Department then required Supervisors to transport any and all materials collected during the tour because they couldn't refuse. Each beat car got a PPE kit. I never saw one until the crisis was over.

The problem with coppers is that anything placed into squad cars gets tossed around so it gets destroyed , thrown out because they think its Bullshit or taken home. There is a total lack of supervision and this crap is no joke because the cops will get this and take it home. Your entire household gets quarantined for 2 weeks. Try living with no way out for this time.

Avoid all unnecessary street stops and traffic stops unless a violent crime is being committed. Maintain a 6 foot distance. If you need to go through someone, wear the proper gloves. If a job requires you to go inside, glove up. If possible get the people to come outside to speak with you. If in a building, get them to come in a hallway. Glove up before going in a building. Do not open doors with your clothes.
Desk people, tell people not to touch the desk, hell put up a sign. Wipe down desk with disinfect if possible.
Wipe your cars down 3 times. Before tour, during tour, after tour.
That's all I have for now.
The Police Board has not announced the three finalists, the names of which go to the mayor. Unless the Board and the Mayor want to do all of this behind a curtain and just announce the new superintendent. Anything is possible in this progressive times. Laws, ordinances and policy can be ignored if it is for the greater good .

I don't believe the virus can be stopped by travel bans, or washing hands. It's an airborne virus, and just has to run it's course. Very few will die and billions will be spent. Talk about a Petri dish, the vulnerability of medical patients is in Jeopardy by some potheads who could cause the virus to spread further with the mayor do anything obviously not there raking in tax dollars and pocketing most of it for themselves.
What is going to happen when they shut the academy down? Promotional classes suspended? What if a PO who is in training for Detective or Sgt, or a Sgt that is in training to get the LT. promotion comes down with this thing? Are they screwed? Re-treaded? Is it IOD? I don't know why I even think they have a clue what the plan is. Talked to a buddy who is a fireman in the burbs. They have it together, they're union has already scoped out a possible building they are going to be quarantined in if they get it on the job. This city is f()*#ed.

I give it a week before the already super under-staffed OEMC is all sick, word on the street is they have no plan in place and they are already mandating like crazy because of how many are already sick. Not to mention i dont even think there is a window in that place to air it out!
