They've tried this in the "D" several times. Hand off active case to next watch. Then when it gets cleared, 8 of us are in trial at 26th for 3,4,5 days getting OT.
So, 6 Dics in trial for 3 days is 126 hours of OT, when you could have let 2 dics work 24 hrs of OT.

Are there nationally accepted “ Best Practices” for Detective Over time with regard to on going Cases? Given that CPD has “ benefited “ from the perspective of the NYPD ( McStreetlights) and LAPD ( Beck), how do these Departments handle Dick OT?

Could we possibly get the city to vote on an amendment to end the gold braid pensions? Put it in the tax payers hands. Let them decide if these exempt members are worth their tax dollars. Easy Sparky, the next amendment to be voted on might be your pension. I'm sure you want all the voters in the ghetto to be given a chance to nix your pension in some referendum. They hate you and would send us all to our golden years penniless if given the chance. Not to mention some of the taxpayers are not happy about how generous our pension is, cuz theirs sucks and they pay taxes for ours.

So, is the Dep Chief going to approve extension of tour for every one that has to spend an hour after their tour filling in the next crew everything they've done on the case so the new crew kows where to "pick up" the investigation?
Then is the Dep Chief going to approve overtime when the ASA demands to speak first hand to each officer that did an interview, checked an alibi, recovered evidence, heard an admission etc.. before they approve charges? when a case that actually results in an arrest and goes to court?
Then is the Dep Chief going to approve every one of those officers to go to court on the case when the defense attorney demands to question on the stand every one of the umpteen officers who took part in these investigatiosn handed over to the "next watch" and then the "next watch"?
Has anyone at City Hall even realized that the current crop of exempts aren't capable of writing a coherent case report yet alone devising a way of making this ridiculous BS work?
They tried something akin to this years ago in A/4. Some of the dicks were leaving reports in the typewriters and going home at quitting time.
Babysitting District 11 works in the short term. Having units with "lights and sirens" on every Glaydes/Pulaksi will work for the short term. How about all non long term narcotics teams being put back in uniform and in a marked car to be the new citywide unit. This will leave only about 5 teams in narcotics to work actual narcotics investigations in a city where most violence stems from the drug trade. No I’ve never been assigned to narcotics or OCD, but I see the need for some sort of unit that focus on day to day narcotics investigations. Lots of people will be making calls to leave soon.

Does anyone know of a website with the running tally of just the deaths in City of Chicago? It seems like every inquiry just gets redirected to Cook County or by state or county. I am convinced our state and city government is trying to hide the real fact that more people have been murdered in Chicago than died of Covid. If we apply this over the top response to homicide in the city ,why not just declare martial law in most violent neighborhoods?
