The "New" Surge is like going to War without bullets. The concept of saturating an a Trouble Spot area is an ancient Urban Policing Strategy. I always worried (and still do) worry about the pension funding which was why I started a business after three years on the job. It's why I stayed on 3rd watch most of my career so I could work my business during the day and build it up to what it is today.
I never got promoted. I only took my first promotional exam for Sgt and failed miserably because I was too busy with my business to study but it's served me well. I now have 7 employees and in spite of the COVID crap my work volume has been cut in half with 4 employees still working. I am still taking in close to triple my monthly P.O. pension.
I am NOT bragging just stating facts. I am NOT posting my name or business. My business broke 7 figures for 2019 with about 30 percent staying right into my bank account plus my $52K pension from CPD. This year I will still put at around $150K in bank plus pension money and I don't really do much of the work anymore. I just oversee and do payroll. Kinda like I am now the Sgt but for my business, lol.
I tell anyone who will listen not to stay on the job until you are 63 if you can avoid it. You are all paying into what could be a defunct pension. I left at age 49. Yes. 49. I know most want to stay until 55 and Tier II hirees have to stay until 55 which I understand. I did my "20 years and a day" and bought two years of military time.
My point is don't waste time at the bar after work getting piss drunk and sleeping the next day; do something productive with your other 8 hours a day and your RDOs. I did all this while being married with a kid but now the family and I spend plenty of time together. I had my little one when I 40 years old and yes I left when she was 6 years old. That's the other shit I hear all the time, "I can't leave until my kid(s) is out of college". Well don't tell yourself that lie either. Start a IL 529 Program now.
Guys and gals do your 20 years and lock up what hopefully will be a lifetime pension but don't count on it. Use your free time wisely. Don't waste a lot of time making DUI arrests or working "special enjoyment" any longer than you have to. There are PLENTY of business opportunites out there!
It's funny a Sgt friend of mine started the same business 15 years ago and he and I just laugh with everyone working "special employment". He's now a competitor but we are both working our side gig. He and I earn 2X what the rest of you earn in 1/2 the time when you work "Special".
I am now learning to day trade so we shall see how that goes.

Glad you feel that way. Yes, in numbers, Chicago has the greatest amount of violent crime. But, a person's chances of getting shot and/or killed is much greater in Milwaukee.

Explain to me what the difference is between the shelter in place now and the curfew imposed during the BULLS riots years ago. During the Bulls riots if you saw a group out after the 8pm curfew you called for the dispersal car. It consisted of 1 canine officer with his canine, 1 officer with a shotgun and 1 officer with a scuba tank of OC with a 3 foot long pipe. I never saw anyone get out of the car after the OC was deployed. That pipe came out the window and engulfed the group with OC. They all ran for the hills. This city refuses to give the Officers Assigned to Districts where people refuse to obey the law the proper tools to safely and effectively Police these Law Breakers. They would much rather put the Police in danger of serious bodily harm as they are greatly outnumbered. Even if the incident does not result in an arrest you know someone is filing a lawsuit against the Officer. If there is an arrest you can bet a lawsuit is forthcoming. It seems to me that the city of chicago is in the business of using it's Officers as cannon fodder for the criminals they encounter, the law firms whose sole income is from lawsuits against Police Officers and the exempts who refuse to give them the tools to efficiently and effectively do their jobs.

If assigned a late job we were told to ask for a relief car 1.5 hours before the end of tour otherwise it'll be grounds for DENIAL of overtime. This information came directly from HQ. These people must have never worked a day in patrol.

Two words- Hamsterdam Expirement.
Talk about casualties.. 011th district IDIOTS do it again. The 011 go getters decided of course to go out there, be proactive and lock up a juvenile. The juvy get arrested by of course eight 011 superhero’s who then bring the juvie to the jisc. They then wash their hands of the young man who is then handled by the jisc personnel and the jisc detectives. The juvie then has to be taken from the jisc to the audy home so since the jisc is in 009 they use the 009 wagon. So the 009 wagon then takes the juvie to the audy where he is coffing and has a fever. Several hours after dropping him off they suspect covid at the audy and test him and today guess what. Test comes back for covid. Now 8 arresting officers/super hero’s from 011, 2 officers and 4 detectives at the jisc, two unsuspecting wagon men from 009 and several Audy personnel have been exposed to this kid and covid... all because 011 rockstars need to keep being rockstars when the entire department has told you morons to STOP. Now, it’s real and because of you people who have nothing to do with you, including officers who are older and HAVE preexisting conditions have been exposed. No time on the job slick boys who don’t use your heads. Sit, drink coffee and relax for a month or two. 011 and it’s BS will still be there.

Explain to me what the difference is between the shelter in place now and the curfew imposed during the BULLS riots years ago. During the Bulls riots if you saw a group out after the 8pm curfew you called for the dispersal car. It consisted of 1 canine officer with his canine, 1 officer with a shotgun and 1 officer with a scuba tank of OC with a 3 foot long pipe. I never saw anyone get out of the car after the OC was deployed. That pipe came out the window and engulfed the group with OC. They all ran for the hills. This city refuses to give the Officers Assigned to Districts where people refuse to obey the law the proper tools to safely and effectively Police these Law Breakers. They would much rather put the Police in danger of serious bodily harm as they are greatly outnumbered. Even if the incident does not result in an arrest you know someone is filing a lawsuit against the Officer. If there is an arrest you can bet a lawsuit is forthcoming. It seems to me that the city of chicago is in the business of using it's Officers as cannon fodder for the criminals they encounter, the law firms whose sole income is from lawsuits against Police Officers and the exempts who refuse to give them the tools to efficiently and effectively do their jobs.

Agreed she is a leftist to be sure. Duckworth's service to the country is valued and appreciated. The same for Senator McCain. We value his service and appreciate it too. Those of us who served know that value first hand. However, you are no longer in military service. You were elected to a political office and as such you are judged and evaluated on you political actions and commentary Not military service. That's in the rear view mirror. This is true for all of us whether you earned a Good Conduct medal, a Purple Heart or a Combat Infantry Badge. Respect is given for your military sacrifice, activities and achievements during military service.
In both Duckworth's and McCain's situation we give them kudo's for their service. Politically speaking, they are open to be criticized for their actions and statements - loudly and often. Rightly so.
