"Surge" Leaves City Unprotected (UPDATES)
Not the entire city - just the taxpaying areas:
- SCC, the command staff had a brilliant fucking idea tonight. Strip five cars from six northside Districts along with a sergeant and send them all to 011. So everywhere is shorthanded and every corner in 011 has a squad car parked with flashing blue lights.
We had a hard time believing this one, so we ran a PCAD inquiry:
It looks to be 100% true. Five cars each from 014, 016, 017, 020, 024, 025 and sergeants, too. Nearly forty cars stripped from the north side of the city and sent to the west side. We had a friend send us this one:
That looks like the safest intersection in the city.
Does anyone know how the north side aldercreatures are feeling about cars being stripped from their constituents to babysit people (and folks) who can't behave themselves during a quarantine? And isn't this proof that the command staff of 011 and all their "fixed post strategy" has been a massive failure? Time for demotions Mr. Brown.

This was happening 15 years ago, doing our penance missions there. U wanna throw 200 of them in 011,010 and 015 every weekend then so be it but leave tax paying districts alone.

I agree 100% with Leader McConnell. States and cities need to declare bankruptcy. My wife and I are not rich. But we are doing great financially. I am a police officer and she is a school teacher. We made wise financial decisions and live below our means. We don't own no fancy smartphones, fancy cars, fancy clothes or a big expensive house. We have enough money to retire comfortably without the pension.
So if we did it, why couldn't you? The pensions are bankrupting our state. My taxes are going higher to support other people's poor decisions.

Remember in the not too distant past when alderman complained that their neighborhoods were being over policed? Then a few years later, not enough police service. Now this again. I’d be happy if my neighborhood had more police service instead of it being deployed here all the time. I live in 024 and whenever there are problems that I have to call in on, it almost always is never responded to or takes over an hour for a response. Yeah, they’re nuisance complaints but they almost always become bigger or become a daily nuisance effecting the quality of life in my neighborhood. My Alderperson has gone on the record saying she can do with less policing. It took years to get the last progressive, Moore, to realize less policing wasn’t helping. When he was finally turning a corner, we got this progressive.. Last summer was a pain in the ass with constant shit infecting my neighborhood again. They always like to cite gentrification as a problem. My neighborhood has the same people living in it 10, 15, 30, even as much as 70 years. The issue isn’t gentrification. The issue is progressives thinking you are supposed to tolerate shitty behavior. So neighborhoods in 011 have been out of hand for years and then they steal resources from neighborhoods not as bad- leaving those neighborhoods vulnerable. I’m tired of being a tax payer who gets the least amount for my money. I never thought I’d move but in about 3 years time, I’m out of this city.
Why does anyone really care that much about the people or folks in 011. It's their choice to stay there. If they really wanted to be in a safe neighborhood, they could find a way out. Why jeopardize your life and job for a group of people that hate you no matter who you are? When you leave this job, will you be happy that you did so much for a community that hates you? Police in the community that wants you there. If you're not wanted, leave them be.

If the powers that be want to do something about crime hot spots like 011, the older retirees can suggest a model solution. Something like Ryan's Raiders - A swarm of tactical cops on motorcycles (who you could hear coming from blocks away). That pushed crowds of loitering citizens up onto the sidewalks and then into their homes. If a defiant citizen didn't want to move along after the order to disperse he spent the rest of the night in the lockup. A mobile strikeforce is what is needed instead of stripping the districts of beat officers. A real plan is needed for hot spots instead of this ill-thought quick solution.

Northwest side doesn’t elect the mayor and the few northwest side aldermen don’t affect the city council vote. If it’s an anti police vote it passes 44-6. Gives the 6 aldermen some shade but has no effect on the vote
As we all know by now, this panic is just that. There is no apocalyptic plague, etc. Those of us with military backgrounds are familiar with the protocols for such events, and we are not seeing any. That being said, what has been exposed is that the infrastructure is not adequate for any kind of massive emergency. The police and fire services have been used as canaries, and inadequately supported ones at that. The Community has not altered any of their behaviors, and our Demoratic party hacks have been just as greedy and incompetent as could be expected. What is worrying is that said hacks have targeted the areas of the populace that support law and order. Releasing felons while arresting taxpayers that have the temerity to go to a park by themselves, or operate a kayak, is not a good look. And with the national news constantly stirring the pot with stories of podunk departments seemingly exceeding Constitutional boundaries, we have an erosion of trust. My personal feeling is that FOPs and similar unions should obtain the best arguments to push back against such BS, as ultimately the street level responders will bear the brunt of the lawsuits or worse that will result. Management levels will leave the mere peons out to dry. Hopefully the economy will reopen before people run out of foodstuffs. The door has now been cracked opened. What for years was thought to be unconstitutional is now being openly talked about. Prepare accordingly.

The US constitution unequivocally gives congress the authority over bankruptcy. Therefore, it would be constitutional. if you are worried about your city pension, the bankruptcy code already allows the state to let local units of government declare bankruptcy. States are currently unable to declare bankruptcy but they can by legislation allow local units of government to do so.
So all it would take is a majority in the state legislature and a governor willing to sign it to allow Chicago to declare bankruptcy.
Chances are that pensions would rank very high in what debts would be paid. The yearly kicker might be in jeopardy, but my guess would be when it comes down to it whatever changes would not amount to a whole lot.
The people who could get hurt bad are the bond holders. Because they all but own the politicians in this state they would likely not be thrilled with the idea of Chicago declaring bankruptcy.
