Corrections Officer Death
- A Cook County corrections officer died after contracting COVID-19, the first officer at the Southwest Side jail to die from complications related to coronavirus.
Sheila Rivera, 47, died Sunday at Resurrection Medical Center in Chicago, her brother said. She had worked as a corrections officer since 2012, and last worked a shift at the jail on April 5, according to Sheriff Tom Dart’s office.
Deepest condolences to the family and co-workers.

Her husband is a CPD at the academy. Great people so sad.
RIP.
Always the wrong people die.
Condolences to the family
RIP to the officer.
God rest your soul and may he comfort your family and friends..
People, this Covid is no joke. She was an overall healthy individual with well controlled diabetes. Unfortunately, she is the 5th person I know of who died of this Chinese virus. The commonality among them is diabetes. For whatever reason, this virus thrives in and hits those with diabetes extremely hard. If you have diabetes, hit the medical and stay in lockdown until this passes! Please, it’s that bad.
R.I.P Office!
Very sad.
Do yourselves a favor and check out Marion Correctional in Ohio.

What? This isn’t the wife of LR of the academy is it? I hope you’re wrong that would make it that much worse, super nice guy. Either way, condolences to the family and friends.
How horrible, pray for her family
From reading comments on here abd FB was Sheriff really initially ordering officers to take off masks cause inmates didn't have them?
RIP fellow officer! Your Brother in corrections
My wife works at the jail and personally knew Officer Rivera. Why, or how in the fuck would her supervisors have her working on an isolation tier full of positive COVID-19 "detainees" (fucking inmates)? Listening to my wife come home everyday and telling me how the "detainee" is put before the officers well being blows my mind. My wife has worked the isolation tier and officers still come in close proximity with "detainees", there is no way to avoid it. No new PPE was there for the officers to use once coming off of the isolation tier. The same contaminated PPE was used all day. Just think, Officer Rivera worked that fucking tier. The CDC visited the jail last week and miraculously PPE gear was there for the officers to use each time they came off an isolation tier. They really put on a good show for the CDC. Officers normally working tier's without a partner had partners that day. Officers had to pass out masks to the "detainees" while the CDC was there. I can go on and on. I wish there was a way the media could report what really happens in that place. It's really sad what happened to Officer Rivera. May she rest in peace.
So sad . Rest In Peace
Rest in Peace.
While Sheriff POS j-off mocked his employees calling them lazy and stupid in past. Just to let him know 139 of his officers have returned to work after recovering from Wuhan virus. While the POS Sheriff and all his politicos hide out from it all.
Democrats make Covid 19 a racial pandemic, use covid19 to release criminals .
You know criminals will follow covid19 stay at home rules .
Who will be the first victim of recent released criminals?
Not JB , LL , TD or their families , they have 24/7 police protection.
24/7 police protection also provided to Daley and Rahm while blacks are slaughtered on the streets of Chicago .
RIP.
Condolences to her family and friends
RIP to all. Very sad situation over there. There are many that are very sick and not just home with a positive test. The Roseland Hospital testing is taking more than two weeks to get test results back to staff.
Hang in there people...
Word is that the social worker Executive Director (yes, a real licensed clinical social worker) dropped out of site and is no longer employed. Does anyone have any information on her resignation or firing??
So prisoners should be released from jail for their protection, but seniors in nursing homes can not leave???????
News said last night of staff who contracted Covid 95% were officers and or medical staff. So out of Dart's 450 political hires have any of them contracted it? Dart said on Chicago Tonight that he was being begged by staff to stay out. Like he was President of the United States and so valuable to put himself in harms way.
I use to work at the jail with her, she was an all around amazing individual. May she rest in peace. Sadly, inmates are always put before Officers.

Not only can't they leave, I can't get in to see my sister. Haven't been allowed in since early March. The whole place, no friends or family. It is for the best I guess. Most in there are weak and would catch Covid-19 and die quickly. Look at other nursing homes with heavy death tolls. No deaths due to Covid at sister's, they are trying to keep everyone alive. We can do FaceTime or a regular phone. My wife is sick about it all because she is usually there every Sunday. Better a stiff quarantine than sick or dead.
If you work at the jail, cam in sick, hurt whatever, that screwed up union that sleeps with Dart has no regard for officers safety. These mutts in jail just want to be released. Stay your distance if you work there.File an OSHA violation.
