First Patients Finally?

  • McCormick Place got its first COVID-19 patients this week as health care professionals begin trying out the hastily built medical center.

Patients started arriving Tuesday afternoon, and five were there Friday, officials said.
It took over a week to get up to five patients. If they build it to capacity, it's supposed to hold three-thousand patients. Current betting has it never topping a few hundred.

We also heard that IAD is running security at the building (overtime?) We're told this is so no one takes pictures of the empty beds and starts to spread them via alternative media sites....like CWB or Wirepoints. Or us.

UPDATE: No overtime, just reassigned from HQ so they don't have to go to the Districts.

BRAVO to the county sheriffs in MI (4 separate men) and the one up in Racine WI for stepping forward refuse to enforce tyrannical (word chosen carefully) edicts from the power mad governors.
A saying I've read per this outbreak: "One brave man is a majority." Five count 'em 5 is a F'n landslide. Again, bravo to the troop honchos' leadership.

The Goal is to never need to use McConneted Place to its capacity. I’d be thrilled to only see a few hundred patients cared for there. That’s the whole point in this.

That being said, when Roseland finally gets their butts around to providing us with our test results, i would not be surprised if the city begins ordering us there to convalesce, in a controlled environment......with no internet connection

No on IAD running security. Private security is handling both outside the halls and inside the halls. There are also some off duty officers, not all CPD, working for the private security as an armed contingent inside the COVID halls. Everyone working inside the COVID halls are gowned up in full PPE. Uniformed CPD officers from headquarters are responsible for security outside and around McCormick place with some inside the building. To be fair, I don’t know if the uniformed CPD officers are working a regular tour or overtime.

All this Mccormick place scam is is a gift to the illiterate south suburban, southwest side and Indiana union workers who made out greatly from the scam of refitting the place to screw over trump. It’s a scam now of massive proportions. I wonder how many have actually died of covid and not something else. Lori and Pritzker and the Democratic Party are disgusting to have caused this disaster to take out a duly elected president.

Respectfully, here is a different take on the McCormick Place setup:

One major reason health care workers and cops and first responders are getting sick too often is lack of preparedness. (And in Chicago, hoarding and poor distribution of PPE because the clouted act like ... well, they behave like the clouted.)

Epidemiologists are "damned if they do." If they raise the alarms soon enough the pandemic can be less catastrophic, but then they get criticized afterwards for raising the successful alarm. It is a difficult to make educated guesses about everyone's health. Fortunately, even in today's "3rd-world America" it is done much better than it was 100 years ago.

One month ago there was no way to know if Chicago would be another NYC. Certainly, the greedy bastards who run United Airlines did not help by continuing to fly non-stops from Wuhan to ORD as long as they did. And the sh*tshow at ORD on that Friday the 13th in March -- with people rushing home from all over the world -- had the potential to send the city into a tailspin.

In summary, better to see McCormick place sit ready, get used less often than feared, and see fewer POs get sick, dealing with less residents getting sick than was reasonably feared. If McCormick place were jammed more sadly even more cops would be getting sick too.

Hmmmm, wonder if this will be the standard operating procedure CPD will have to follow if they start a triage for alleged Covid’s case hospital transports. Rather than hospitals transferring, they will demand wagon run the sickly diseased to MacCormack’s on the Lake for every sniffle or bellyache. Could have a CPD detail desk there for onsite I-Bonds just like the original Old County Hospital.

Did the Pacific Gardens empty out?
I’m willing to bet that MacCormack's Infirmary is merely a transfer depot.
Maybe a “Walk-Ins Welcomed” sign is at the front doe?

I could imagine an “E.T.” (1982, Universal Studios-Amblin Entertainment) government style cover up and Area 51 forbidden zone was established keeping any interlopers away from snooping the empty big top tents.

Desperate to keep the lockdown going by repurposing an otherwise abandoned convention site.

Looks like another made up crisis that will expensively go away unchallenged. It will keep the entire stretch of the lakefront empty all summer and allow MacCormack to keep the lights and water on since they’ve been failing to attract much convention business for decades.
They have to burn that gubmint money and the keep the failing MacCormack’s open somehow.

All this lockdown bullshit because they want a Democrat sworn in The White House next year.

This thing isn't over, and between the improved testing, spring weather, and the post-Easter surges, you may see more cases being shipped there. Why? The numbers in the South Suburbs (which are mostly minorities) who didn't follow protection guidelines. Here's some examples from IL Dept of Public Health numbers. On 4/16, the case counts for Calumet City=163; Dolton= 114; Harvey=107; Riverdale=116, and South Holland=139. FOUR days later (4/19): Calumet City=188 (Up 25); Dolton=132 (Up 18); Harvey=137 (Up 20); Riverdale=125 (Up 9); and South Holland=162 (Up 23). So case counts continue to go UP, not down, and the temporary hospital may yet be needed for suburban patients that tax the suburban hospitals. Chicago will see a spike yet, and it makes more sense to re-route stable but needing monitoring C-19 patients straight to the temp hospital, leaving the regular hospitals available for other emergency needs.

The large trauma centers like U of C have been managing COVID-19 very well and have ICU beds available (almost 40 last week). However they are hemorrhaging money by not having elective cases like knee replacements, cancer treatments, clinical trials and others. This is due to requiring floors to be "clean" and have no COVID cases which means waiting for 2 negative test results on a patient. They also plan on having to prioritize trauma care with the fast approaching summer. Although McCormick place may never be fully used, the idea is to have the COVID cases managed there and other low acuity cases so they don't tie up trauma center resources, and they can start going back to elective procedures.

most scientific advancement if the result of tinkering. Very few scientific advancements were planned to perfection, then created. (One exception being the atom bomb). It's all trial and error.
