The Department isn't releasing (as far as we know) stats on who got infected and where they work. But this would seem important:
- The unit tasked with assembling and passing out PPE’s at HQ has had the highest ratio of positive COVID results in the department (60% have tested positive) including their civilian Deputy Chief. So every PPE kit assembled had a 60% chance of being contaminated & passing along the virus to patrol...WTF! And yet, the Department doesn’t want its members tested unless their symptomatic (and frowns upon exposure reports in patrol).
No one has firm data on how long the virus survives outside of a host, but supposedly, every member of the Department has been issued PPE gear....and there is a 60% chance it was assembled (in cut-up heat-sealed currency transport bags) by someone who later tested positive for COVID-19.

It's been the department's strategy from the beginning, to willfully put officers at risk in order to hide the incredible risk everyone is facing by being forced to congregate and still swipe the virus onto everyone's id. And when the hot weather hits, this virus will explode because AC system will spread the virus, it's a documented fact that air conditioning systems will transmit the virus. But the city will continue to put us all at risk by not being honest about how it is transmitted. The head if the cdph is outright lying about the risks.

At least we got something which is better than nothing. This was a big accomplishment for a department that can't even come up with some road flares to put in squad cars.

If you're a Sgt and your officers were exposed.......FILL OUT THE DAMN REPORT!!!!! Don't be a pussy your whole life motherfucker !!!!! I don't give two shits what the order reads about what they say constitutes exposure. I'm using what I am reading, hearing and my conscious.
We will give reports to people all day just to shut them up and get them out of our hair......but when it comes to one of us possibly being exposed to a potentially deadly virus.........it's "no,no,no, they don't get a report!"
As a Sgt you can do the report. You can sign it and give a copy to the exposed officer. Then send the original to get signed by the Commander. If the Commander doesn't want to sign it, who really cares....the exposure is documented.
Make sure a competent loved one knows about the exposure and give them a copy of the report. I'm not taking any chances of the City/Department screwing my kids out of benefits.

Just FYI the masks in the PPE kits are N95 and are factory sealed. I’ve noticed a lot of people not wearing the masks at jobs even when the call is for a mental, or someone shouting/spitting. Please guys wear the masks. We’ve lost enough officers to this thing. God Bless and be safe.

Jeez thank God I was not issued one and carry my own mask and gloves. Thankfully my results came back negative after two weeks of waiting for them, then they call at 2055hrs. Shitcago a City that works

Time to start filing lawsuits, people. Expensive lawsuits for reckless behavior by the City for: a) failing to provide PPE until long after the risk was known by WHO and CDC; b) failing to screen Department members and employees until long after risk was known; c) failing to follow IL Dept of Labor health and safety standards (ILDOL enforces OSHA laws); d) resulting in job-related illnesses and deaths. Krislov should know some good attorneys for this type of suit. And there is NO need for the useless FOP to be involved; these are personal suits (more likely a class-action suit).

The kits don't need to be sterile. They are not being used in an operating room. They are there to reduce the risk of the wearer becoming infected, not to protect a surgical patient.
It is moderately troubling if it is true that 60% of any group of people are infected. That suggests either a super spreader is within the group or some environmental factor is an issue (like recirculated air), or both.
It is not real clear how long the virus lasts on these kind of surfaces or how much of it lasts long enough to matter. It would appear anything past 7-10 days is reasonably safe. Hopefully the date of packing is on the bags.
