What does this all mean?
There are 1160 ICU beds in Chicago hospitals. 472 are occupied by COVID-19 patients.
446 are occupied by NON-COVID-19 patients. So, %79.1 of all ICU beds in Chicago are being used as of 20 APR 2020. 242 (%20.9)ICU beds are open. Wouldn't take much of a surge in cases, and we would be fucked. This info is from the official city website (Chicago.gov) click on corona virus updates, then data and reports. What you conveniently overlook are two things. One, unlike with other diseases zero immunity exists in our population. Our bodies have no way to resist the illness and stop the spread. It is highly contagious and goes straight for the lungs. Some people get it and recover on their own. Others get it and need medical help to recover. Others get it and die in spite of medical help. Eventually only about 2% die.
Two, because it is so contagious, over time eventually everyone will get it unless a vaccine intervenes. How fast it spreads depends largely on population density. We've already seen the impact on the medical community even with measures in place to slow the spread. We've also seen irresponsible people disregard quarantine orders because they're too stupid to realize that they may be carriers and that they can spread the illness to many others.
Two percent of 330,000,000 people, the population of the US, is a big number.
The actions taken now are all about trying to manage the rate at which it spreads in order to buy time. Time to develop a vaccine. Time for society to adjust.

I have no idea where the author found his data. But the official number of Covid deaths thus reported, from the time of the first death in the City of Chicago, 16 March - 22 April is 593. Not 86.
That is 593 Covid deaths in a 38 day period of time. I believe that exceeds the total number of homicides in Chicago for the entire 2019 year.
I'm not saying Chicago doesn't have a violence problem. It does. But spreading misinformation on Covid isn't the way to address it.

What you advocate is totalitarian. This is a free society. By now everyone knows the risks. Infringing on people’s rights and way of life is more dangerous than this virus. You can hide inside but I will not.
All tac teams from north side, along with beat cars being sent to 011 tonight for “SURGE MISSION”. Supposed to happen, until further notice. So 16, 17, 24, 20, 19,14, and 25 were all in 011. Driving around blocks with lights and sirens on. Meanwhile the tax payers are left to fend for themselves. Kato giving orders over the air to “SURGE” through out the evening! If this was done on a Wed in mid-april, one has to wonder what is in store for the summer. Also is this Kato’s idea, or the new Sup?

What I don't understand is with dozens of people dying of this virus daily. And the regular average number of people dying every day. The Slumtimes only has 5-6 people in the obituaries daily?

"Worst virus ever?" Hyperbole much? Sheesh!
What you conveniently overlook are two things. One, unlike with other diseases zero immunity exists in our population. Our bodies have no way to resist the illness and stop the spread. It is highly contagious and goes straight for the lungs. Some people get it and recover on their own. Others get it and need medical help to recover. Others get it and die in spite of medical help. Eventually only about 2% die.
Two, because it is so contagious, over time eventually everyone will get it unless a vaccine intervenes. How fast it spreads depends largely on population density. We've already seen the impact on the medical community even with measures in place to slow the spread. We've also seen irresponsible people disregard quarantine orders because they're too stupid to realize that they may be carriers and that they can spread the illness to many others.
Two percent of 330,000,000 people, the population of the US, is a big number.
The actions taken now are all about trying to manage the rate at which it spreads in order to buy time. Time to develop a vaccine. Time for society to adjust.

Thanks for this bit of common sense, 11:23. For all his faults, Toilet Boy took the right path here. Things are dire but we're not having ERs beyond-slammed like NYC. 011 is gonna be 011 & I wouldn't expect anything better. But, if you think about it, given another Gov in this situation, Chicago could have been absolutely destroyed.

The only factual information going out to the public is on CWB and Heyjackass. Heyjackass posts racial demographics shootings by neighborhood and on weekends addresses of shootings.
