He also is in love with the sound of his own voice (I’m a lieutenant and your not voice). Well he can’t do rolls calls now since the department doesn’t want us all packed in a room on top of each other. You know attempting to not have us infect each other. But It’s been driving him crazy not being able to babble on about nothing and not being able to hear the sound of his own voice. What to do? Well he came up with this. Let’s just have the roll calls outside the radio room in the hallway, yes perfect! Let’s have all of us stand on top of each other in the hallway while he sits on a table babbling on about nothing. We were packed in that hallway so tightly you could hear the copper next to you breathing. I’m sure that didn’t risk any of us spreading the virus around. No 6 feet social distancing needed I guess. I understand being essential but if we have different expectations than the public then we need to be physically prepared for what our job entails. Our physical health is the most important thing we have aside from our brain. If we’re expected to show up to work during a pandemic we need to be physically prepared for our job and it’s duties. Having said that, we need access to our districts gyms again. Covid shut down all gym memberships and many of our apartments in this city aren’t large enough to house gym equipment. Yes Covid has slowed down the economy, and yes there is a quarantine (that is selectively observed) but violent criminals are still violent. We still sometimes need to use force against unruly subjects. We need to take care of ourselves. We don’t have access to gyms right now but we’re expected to carry out the full functionality of our jobs? This is a massive safety issue and it’s not acceptable. This isn’t like not being able to get a hair cut, this our physical wellness. The safety of the public, our partners and ourselves for our families. Cook county just released idk how many convicts back onto the streets who have done nothing for the past several years but lift weights and we have no recourse. Do you think our clientele stopped working out?

And maybe the next time you see a couple of community members, you can give them a big hug and let them know you feel their plight. Are any of these teachers who are so concerned about their students doing anything to help them in this crisis. Any of them actually showing up to work. After all there is no one there. One teacher per classroom meets the social distancing guidelines. Maybe they should come into work and attempt to teach from the classroom to via zoom elearning etc.

Even though everyone else, who had a brain, knew traveling outside the U.S. was a bad idea. He finally came home, after his ship was quarantined for awhile, and shockingly he tested positive for the virus. He himself was quarantined for the two weeks and the watch ran smoothly without him. He’s back to work now driving everyone nuts as per usual. Now among the many things he likes to do every day roll call. He loves getting up there and grand standing. He also is in love with the sound of his own voice (I’m a lieutenant and your not voice). Well he can’t do rolls calls now since the department doesn’t want us all packed in a room on top of each other. You know attempting to not have us infect each other. But It’s been driving him crazy not being able to babble on about nothing and not being able to hear the sound of his own voice. What to do? Well he came up with this. Let’s just have the roll calls outside the radio room in the hallway, yes perfect! Let’s have all of us stand on top of each other in the hallway while he sits on a table babbling on about nothing. I know this post isn’t relevant, but to the admin- maybe you can run with this
I understand being essential but if we have different expectations than the public then we need to be physically prepared for what our job entails. Our physical health is the most important thing we have aside from our brain. If we’re expected to show up to work during a pandemic we need to be physically prepared for our job and it’s duties. Having said that, we need access to our districts gyms again. Covid shut down all gym memberships and many of our apartments in this city aren’t large enough to house gym equipment. Yes Covid has slowed down the economy, and yes there is a quarantine (that is selectively observed) but violent criminals are still violent. We still sometimes need to use force against unruly subjects. We need to take care of ourselves. We don’t have access to gyms right now but we’re expected to carry out the full functionality of our jobs? This is a massive safety issue and it’s not acceptable. This isn’t like not being able to get a hair cut, this our physical wellness. The safety of the public, our partners and ourselves for our families. Cook county just released idk how many convicts back onto the streets who have done nothing for the past several years but lift weights and we have no recourse. Do you think our clientele stopped working out?

How about when every cop on the department can run 1.5 miles in under 14 minutes we open the gyms? Because fighting requires being able to stay in the fight. Just look at 011 district, thousands officers worked in that place with no avail. It is real estate and steep property taxes that eliminate crime (beat 1135 redeveloped), not the police. With that being said, I have to agree, we are essential, but we don't do much.

The police were never intended to end crime. Crime as a whole is unstoppable. The police were intended to be the executive branches tool to keep the citizenry in line. There will always be a group of citizens that will not cause trouble, there is a group that will cause trouble, the police are fir the middle group that could go either way. You keep the borderline in check and anarchy will not grab a foothold.
The only problem with the real estate and taxes, the criminal element is mobile, ask the Michigan avenue merchants.
i hope she shares the same feeling about a more significant arm of the criminal justice system: LAWYERS.

I bring up a speach where Gorbachev says the Soviet Union has achieved full socialism in 1984 or 1985. They don’t have anything to say at that point. I just hope Obama’s policy of stripping financial aid for college for these people to be radicalized actually sees some ground in the next few years. This policy has been in effect for about 7 years. Shit these kids need to be in school to get a real training like to be a plumber or carpenter. We don’t need to pay the bill to teach people about the path that Lenin, Marx, and Engels laid out. Why aren't teachers required to come to work and clean classrooms and school vehicles like the police.

On occasion, I have taught at the City Colleges of Chicago (another patronage laden cesspool since the Machine politicizes everything it touches) and it is sometimes shocking to see how poorly prepared most CPS High School graduates are.
At one time, the colleges and the CPS high schools were jointly administered. As such, no college entrance examinations were required since, the reasoning was, the CPS educated you and we know you: so all CPS students seeking to enroll in the City Colleges were given diploma privileges.
The City Colleges are not especially difficult, but many of the CPS students who enroll are in need in of serious remediation. Many do not graduate despite herculean efforts to bring them up to speed.
I believe it's time to think about the end of the USA as we know it now...there are other places in the world to live

The last thing this department needs is to reopen the gyms. If the only workout you will do involves lifting, you can still buy a straight bar and weight and do a complete workout and then some. You don’t need a gym.
How about when every cop on the department can run 1.5 miles in under 14 minutes we open the gyms? Because fighting requires being able to stay in the fight. If you don’t believe me, watch the video of our colleagues getting their asses handed to them by the PCP nut job on the subway platform (before the female cop shot him in the back twice).
I swear, the things we bitch about on this department are sometimes embarrassing.
What’s embarrassing is towing the company hysteria. Larry gets a haircut and it’s ok , piss bums hang out in the station ..all good. Guys want to utilize the department gym and now they aren’t making the gains under their dirty hrt doctor? Look at the big picture. The department doesn’t care about its officers. While many of you may hate me, let me tell you how someone can be both a proud CTU member and a supporter of the police.
First off, 99% of teachers don't buy into the anti-police BS from CTU. They have a small circle that pats each other on the back and repeats the same rhetoric..
As a teacher, I deal with the many of the same problems you deal with. I have students who threaten me, and trust me, I have SEVERAL guns ready to go at a moment's notice.
I support police because you have the hardest job out there. It is probably the only job where you are guaranteed not to have a good day. You deal with the worst in society in the worst situations... I applaud you for your patience and faithfulness to the community.
As far as how could I support Sharkey? Whether you like him or not, he knows how to organize and manipulate media. I, as a teacher, feel confident when he goes in to argue for a contract with CPS. I know we will get a good deal. The FOP could learn a few things from how he negotiates.
As far as teachers being worthless? LAME... that old Bill Bennett bullshit from 1985 doesn't apply today. CPS has improved student options-- allowing for students to go to college, the LMCC, Police/Fire Academy, Vocational training, etc. Scores have improved drastically in the last 10 years, and 6 of the top 10 high schools (as far as aptitude goes) are CTU schools here in Chicago.
I support police even if you hate me, but to be honest...many of you whine and cry worse than the people you attack on a daily basis. I have two Master's degrees from Big Ten schools... I deserve to be paid. I am engaged through Google Classroom with my kids every week. I am still grading assignments and handling required paperwork for ISBE.
Some of you have NO CLUE... grow up
