Lucky Carjacker by Hotel Essex
- The off-duty Chicago police officer was walking to his car in a South Loop parking garage Thursday evening when a man followed him into the elevator, tucked his hand into his sweatshirt and demanded his keys.
“I have a gun and I will shoot you," the man yelled as the elevator headed to the third level of the garage in the 700 block of South Wabash Avenue, according to a police report.
“Are you serious?" the officer asked.
“I will shoot you," the man threatened again.
This was right next door to the Hotel Essex where First Repornders are staying during the COVID-19 time. The officer tossed over his keys, then went hands-on. Nice restraint by the officer.

There was a burglary to vehicle there a week ago. Seems when you tell people publicly where police will lay their heads at night...this happens. Stay away from the cesspool of downtown.

Has the process been suspended, slowed or up and running. I understand range time for qualification is a different matter. I recently retired before the virus and screwed up by not sending the paper work in right away. I'm going to call the state Monday morning and will post what they say, although I might be the only idiot who put himself in this position. Thanks. Bu...bu...bu...but officers are not allowed to do that. It's a property crime that is covered by insurance. Officers must comply with the request and call 311 for a report.
