Our friend Jack Dunphy puts into well organized words various disparate thoughts that have been roiling the CPD as of late:

I have been reminded of that day while watching the global upheaval wrought by the coronavirus pandemic. I will grant that the current situation is not entirely analogous to an isolated incident like the one at LAX, but certain comparisons are nonetheless instructive. Police officers everywhere know that when an incident achieves a certain level of public interest, higher-ranking personnel emerge from their offices to put their imprint on the course of events, most often with deleterious results. Such was the case at LAX that day, as command staff from the LAPD, Airport Police, L.A. County Sheriff’s Department, FBI, ATF, and a host of other agencies descended on the airport and began issuing nonsensical instructions, many of them conflicting with others issued moments earlier.
Police officers also know, through bitter experience, that when an incident attains sufficient notoriety to attract input from political figures, the operation is all but certain to end in failure and disgrace. Even those high-ranking police officers who are adept and nimble decision-makers in a crisis (such people are rare) find themselves swept aside by their more numerous peers looking to please this or that political patron.
This would be the new guy, along with the multiple "merit" old guard (the most incompetent bunch of supervisors yet assembled) running around and issuing orders/directives/missions that run contrary to common sense, the Consent Decree and the Constitution.
We have unconfirmed rumors that already, a few law firms are sending out requests for their minions to troll social media accounts for video of dispersals and confrontations with police in anticipation of a rather large lawsuit concerning Civil Rights. Be very aware that "directives" and "suggestions" from politicians carry no weight of law and no protection to those who attempt to enforce them upon citizens.

A few years back we had an old school sgt who was in Capps prior to his promotion. Well Sarge rounded up a few of the troops for a meeting and instructed us how we were gna clean up the BS in the hood. The troops were attentive until I told the Sarge that it wasn’t a good idea and that the same people who sign the complaints would not have our backs in civil court nor would any white shirt. I told him how that area was protected by the alderman. End of mission! Do not put your neck on the line for anyone. Just because they wear a white shirt doesn’t mean they know more then you and today you work hard for a pension that seems to be in jeopardy! Be smart!

OT: so get this, in our north side district we are being forced to send a sgt and 10po’s everyday to this surge. Well we normally only have one sgt on the street for about 40 po’s, but b/c of this surge our district is sending our only street sgt to the west side. This leaves the entire watch without a sgt. How can this be “calea certified.” How can this pass the span of control standards set by the consent decree? How can the commander not stand up for his people and say enough, I need at least one dam sgt from the watch on the street.
When you end up in federal court Lightfoot, Pritzker and club exempt won’t be there backing you up.
Be very prepared for a slew lawsuits that are being prepared as we speak about the unconstitutionality of these direct orders by the mayor and governors office. Already, it's been seen in other states that there is merit to these suits and can move forward.

While we are all concerned with public health and safety, it is troubling to consider the fact that Governor Pritzker continues to act without seeking legislative approval for his Executive Orders. There could be numerous lawsuits filed by civil rights activists soon.
A legal challenge has been filed because it appears that he has exceeded his authority by continuing to insist upon exercising "emergency powers" when these powers are limited to thirty days under the existing law. Moreover, the lawsuit cites legal opinions from Illinois appellate prosecutors who questioned the legality of Pritzker's actions and orders.

We live in a society where peanuts are banned from all airplane flights if one in a million people are allergic to them, where children are expelled from school for drawing a picture of a gun, or bringing an aspirin to class. i was watching Live PD last night and a Pamona Ca officer had an illegal parking and social distancing complaint.
the disturbance was a birthday party being done with vehicles driving by. but for some reason the decided to illegally park and congerate in front of the birthday house. the officer told them that the only issue he had with them was the illegal parking and due to the executive orders he could only inform and suggest about wearing masks in public, congregating, and social distancing. No tickets were issued and no arrest were made. Common shit stuff, no riot started and he will not be sued in the future.
