More Hogs Getting Fat

You (and we) can't get a drink, a tan or a haircut, but guess who's getting "stimulus" money?
  • Navy Pier Inc., the clout-heavy not-for-profit whose president is paid more than $540,000 a year, has received a nearly $2.5 million coronavirus stimulus loan from the federal government toward salaries and other expenses.

Facing what it says are losses of $10 million, Navy Pier Inc. says the loan from the U.S. Small Business Administration’s Payroll Protection Program will cover expenses and the salaries of 147 employees, some who have been “sidelined” since the pier was shut down in March by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The federal loan will be used to cover all salaries, including that of Marilyn Kelly Gardner, the Navy Pier Inc. president and chief executive officer whose salary, bonus and other compensation totaled $541,051 in 2018, according to records filed with the Internal Revenue Service.

The company’s board of directors, which includes former Mayor Richard M. Daley’s daughter, spends more than $3 million a year on pay for Gardner and seven other top employees. That includes $419,204 for chief operating officer Brian Murphy, a former Chicago cop who was Daley’s deputy chief of staff, and $258,816 for vice president of operations Michael Degnan, the son of longtime Daley political adviser Timothy Degnan.
Home Depot is running short of tar, but Bed, Bath and Beyond has plenty of feather pillows available.

Does the bullshit ever end! Are these people entitled to these exorbitant salaries? Just what the fuck does somebody do to get a $500,000 salary? I would be embarrassed if this shit came out with my name on it! These POS and their families have been raping the taxpayers for the last 50+ years! The city is broke but I want to know how many BULLSHIT SALARIES are out there! Fuck tars and feathers, hang these assholes and that will make politicians think before they try anything like it! Oh wait wasnt there a similar scandal involving Mc Pier and the elite getting all kinds of freebies! Some went to jail but there was never a full accounting back then in the George Ryan years
The blatant truth behind the city, county and states money problems is the salaries that are divvied out to the democRATS chosen people! Fuck the democRATS and their chosen people...the taxes in this state make slaves of the middle class taxpayers which was constitutionally prohibited over 100 years ago!

Bulldoze Navy Pier. Its not essential to anything in this city.I would bet that 95% of the Citizens of Chicago have never utilized anything there.Over a half a Million to some political hag to run it?You can then run that Bulldozer out to O hare and prepare that land to be sold off. With air travel DOA for the foreseeable future there is no need for 2 airports. Then run a fleet of those Dozers downtown to knock down some high rises that are going to be vacant. This is going to make the 1968 Detroit Demolition look like a mere remodeling. With virtual schooling via E Learning start demolishing the bulk of theses antiquated schools and sell off the properties. The Bankruptcy Judge is going to be implementing quite a few innovative ideas to pay the City of Chicago,s outstanding commitments.

The PPP has a ceiling of 100,000, but based on this math, the average landed employee compensation at Navy Pier is $81,632 after taxes.

Spoke with a relative who works for one of the largest medical practices in the Chicago area who said they have been given permission by the State to resume surgeries and procedures which are now backed up about two months. There have been a lot of people in pain plus other maladies that they were not permitted to treat as you could only take care of trauma and emergencies outside of those who were dealing with the Coronavirus cases. So during this time physicians and hospitals have taken a hit because they could not perform many of their duties. But a lot of the other health care workers who are in the practice like nurses, technicians, therapists, officer workers and others were laid off with no pay and the skeleton staffs that were permitted to work took pay cuts. And we know it is not just the medical profession who is suffering. So how in good conscious could they not lay off the patronage army at Navy Pier a non essential workplace during these times (keep a skeleton crew of maintenance workers there). Those other Daley useless political hacks need to be laid off with a permanent reduction in salary. The Daley’s are still stealing tax dollars from the taxpayers, their scam is just like the Royal Family’s scam of mooching off the people of the United Kingdom.

Made me crazy at first, but read it a second time. The money is a loan, which means it has to be paid back. It’s not Covid stimulus that folks don’t have to pay back. From what I understand Navy Pier was owned by the Metropolitan Pier and Exposition Authority who operate and own McCormak Place. They then created Navy Pier Inc as it’s own entity. The city gave up the operation of McCormak Place and Navy Pier to MPEA so they could run it without the city having the headache of running it. I’m pretty sure it’s a privately run company and the city is some kind of minor owner who draws financial benefits like a shareholder would. It’s probably like the White Sox stadium that the state kinda owns but Reinsdorf runs for them. If they pay it back with interest like the auto makers did when they got bailed out 10 years ago, I don’t care.

Murphy? The former Deputy Superintendent? A scam artist extraordinaire. $420K for being the COO? He is not worth one-quarter of that money. Nobody is worth that kind of money. Plus, there is currently nothing for him to do! My God, this open-air thievery has got to stop. The Daley Crime Family is still pulling the strings.

Wow...Brian Murphy earns that much in salary there? Is there no limit to the city teat that guy continues to suck?
I can recall when he took leave from the CPD as a lieutenant to go work for Daley in the water dept. as some glorified commissioner, only to return to the CPD as a Deputy Chief...of nothing. The unit he returned to already had an ADS (Sodini) and Deputy Supt. (Shields), so what did Murphy have to do there? Absolutely nothing. And that's how he ended his career, doing nothing at premium pay.
Nice to see that some traditions in Chicago continue, regardless of who now sits in the Mayor's seat. Murphy promoted way beyond his competency.
Don't you recall, SCC, that when Murphy finally retired, he even posted a "thanks for your support guys" sendoff, right here on SCC?

People complain, and are correct, that conventions leave Chicago because it costs $200 to plug a cord into a wall at the McCormick place, and their right. The electrician makes a good living there along with all of the crafts people that goes without saying. It cost $200 because of the people who get checks from the Pier Authority who couldn't find Navy Pier or the McCormick Place on a map, the assistant to the assistant beverage procurer who make $75K for a no-show job, and there are hundreds of them. That's another reason why Daley never paid into our pension, its his money.

What’s the old adage pigs get fat hogs go to slaughter definitely not here in the most corrupt city state and county and United States of America, have you noticed how their stop being reported as they are now just like pigs at the trough grabbing more and more cash stacking it away for themselves and their friends and family but not being scrutinized at all? When you see these people that were former for example police commanders police bosses were getting a six-figure pension grabbing more and more money depriving some qualified person have a job it’s just Pathetic to see the greed and callousness against others!

When fat ass Pritzker was asked about this he defended it saying how important navy pier is. He is a machine hack pos who should have been investigated by the Obama controlled justice department and RINO Lausch for asking Blago for the treasures job, but he was protected. And where is RINO Lausch? Is he on vacation along with the rest of the fake FBI? Where are all the investigations of city Hall and the state? Madigan, Rahm, Ferguson, the Daley crime family, Cullerton, Van Pelt, Ervin, Burnett, Steve Berlin and countless others are allowed to continue their corruption. This proves more than ever that the indictment of Burke was directed by the machine and the progressive scum to get lying Lori elected. Lausch’s indictment of Burke was only intended to take out Daley, Preckwinkle and Mendoza to insure the election of his bff the toad woman.

This city will probably fork over millions to the owners of the Skyway. There’s probably a fine print stating that they’re guaranteed a certain amount of toll fares and since nobody is driving, the city must pay the difference.

Other than November 3rd re-election of President Donald J Trump, elections for locals is too far away.

Shameless, corrupt and failing McPier system. How the frig does some entity that gets tax subsidies get a Gubmint loan, allowed to default and continue to operate?
But the lowly mortgagee defaults on their loan or tax bill goes unpaid due to hoax forced shutdown gets foreclosed or placed under lien?
Maybe JB PorkRind should cover the MacPier tab with his MacCormack Hyatt note. He’s a bidness man thats too big to fail.

Way back Machine:
Remember when Patrick Daley&Vanecko (purveyors of City sewer, airport internet, pension, real estate services) defrauded and defaulted on SBA loans along with City insider lender Cardinal Growth? Few years later Vanecko was allowed to tap several city controlled pensions for another Big Money loss while still able to collect a commission.
The obama SBA settled the earlier mess in 2016 and they got away with still owning SBA 90% of the $50 million cash they pilfered. The pensions lost their 80% of the investment scheme.

The Fed should know this and every other nugget of malfeasance of corrupt antics of Chicago dealings.
Holdovers from the obama admin still running the accounts payable department at SBA ?

Michael Degnan, son of Timothy Degnan, long time political advisor to Mayor Richard M. Daley. Oh and wasn’t Timothy Degnan the son of John Degnan, Head of Streets and Sanitation under Richard J. Daley? 1 year of Mayor Lori, 8 years of Mayor Rham, 22 years of Mayor Ritchie, 8 years of Mayors Sawyer and Harold, 4 years of Mayor Jane, 3 years of Mayor Bilandic since Richard J. died; and the Degnan dynasty continues. John Degnan grew up in Visitation Parish of the old 14th Ward when old Joe Burke was the Alderman creating the Back of the Yards Organization. Ed Burke became Alderman when old Joe died. Brian Murphy formerly of Mayor Richard M. Daley’s staff, was the late Det. Joe Burke’s sergeant in Area One. Ald. Ed Burke was Det. Joe’s older brother. Whew....exhausting isn’t it ?

That pension amount must be his retired PO father. Murph retired as a Deputy Superintendent about 4 or 5 years ago after 25 years. His pension is somewhere between $93,000-97,000.
