Cops Injured, Woman Dead
- A man driving a vehicle wanted in a homicide led police on a chase throughout Chicago Wednesday evening during which a squad car crashed in Lake View and left a woman dead and several other people injured.
The man, 22, was driving the dark-colored Jeep about 8:15 p.m. near 115th Street and Cottage Grove Avenue when officers noticed it was possibly wanted for several crimes in the nearby suburbs, Chicago police said. They tried to curb the Jeep in the 9400 block of South Union Avenue, but it took off and led police on a chase into Irving Park on the North Side.
The man crashed the Jeep near Irving Park Road and Keystone Avenue, and ran to a nearby gas station where he stole an idling 2016 Nissan SUV, police said. He left the gas station and took off east on Irving Park Road with police in pursuit.
While chasing the Nissan with their sirens activated, a marked squad car slammed into a Ford Explorer traveling north on Ashland Avenue, police said. The driver, a 37-year-old woman, was taken to Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where she died.
The squad car spun out and and hit a Hummer stopped at the red light, police said. The Hummer’s driver, a 62-year-old man, and two passengers, a 29- and 44-year-old woman, were all taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in fair condition.
Two officers were injured in the crash as well and are in fair condition, police said.
The man drove the stolen Nissan back to the South Side before crashing into a pole in Bridgeport, police said. He tried to run from the scene but was taken into custody in the 800 block of West Pershing Road, and later taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in serious condition.
Illinois State Police said the Jeep was wanted in at least one homicide.
Deepest sympathies to the deceased. Wishing all the officers speedy recoveries.

Regarding the crash, not much can be said. It’s bad, and the officers will have to face questions that it doesn’t seem there will be any answers for.

It’s very hard to watch the crash, and such a tragic ending.
Would be surprised if the officer driving isn’t charged criminally, and I’m guessing he’s at the very least out of a job at this point.

If a vehicle is careless left ripe for stealing, that owner/driver needs to be charged as an accessory to any crime committed in that vehicle after the heist. I won't say 'reporting' on a police chase because only the male half of the anchor duo was trying to report and give factual information. Whoever that female was, she's a tittering, giggling idiot who should have gotten out of the anchor chair and gone home.
She treated the chase like it was a video game and commented repeatedly how scared she was, how exciting this was, how 'just like Chicago PD' this was. She laughed and she giggled and she acted like an idiot.
GREAT job to the pursuing vehicles. So happy this felon is off the street. And much sympathy to the innocents harmed and terrified by his criminal actions.

This crash happened 1/2 hour after the chase started on the south side , went thru downtown then out the Kennedy and back down Irving Park. There were all kinds of cars involved, some blocking off streets and expressway entrances. Hard to understand why this squad was flying down the street

The offender in this was identified by a witness in a murder in November 2018. They refused to charge it based on a one finger ID. If they did their jobs this pos would never have gone in to kill again....

The criminal charges won't work, becuase the decreased died while on drugs resisting arrest. That expiration from heavy exertion while on fenatnyl/ coke/meth while being arrested /resisting arrest/choking on a baggie/etc , yea it all happens many times a year as you know.

The vehicle was used in a murder. 9 times out of 10 the occupants in the car if arrested in the car are RWOC because they claim they just got the car by an unknown person then they decline any questions. Clearly the day they got the car just a little bit ago after the homicide occurred. A woman died for a ghetto RWOC event. Also, he would have been RWOC anyways because the dics would have just processed the car and then did photo arrays of dude in the car which for a homicide in the ghetto is normally negative anyways. A stolen vehicle used in a ghetto homicide is not worth killing a mother of 6 for a RWOC CB number. Every cop who came up on the air behind that vehicle or calling out a location of it will get a CR number for failure to obey a direct order from a supervisor case closed. No doubt about it. Minimum 10 days with some facing termination. Good luck to all
Her name is Micea Matthew, and she wasn't that bad. My only beef is she said the victim was carjacked, when in fact she left the car running while she went to pay for gas.

And, there was an occupant in the vehicle when the offender jacked it. The occupant was able to jump out 1/2 second before the offender drove off. That changes the equation.
Only the law abiding citizens have been quarantined , last night after midnight over 300 having a party at 70th and Lowe , keeping the normal citizens awake . Lori allows protesters to use parks .
