FOP Prez Lobs a Bomb
- Fraternal Order of Police President John Catanzara on Wednesday called Mayor Lori Lightfoot’s bluff — saying if she’s serious about making disciplinary changes to the police contract, she’ll eliminate the requirement that Chicago Police officers live in the city and give them the right to strike.
One proposed disciplinary change would allow anonymous complaints — without a sworn affidavit.
“If they want to get rid of the [sworn] affidavit, then take the residency requirement out of the frickin’ contract and also take the no-strike clause out of our contract and then, let’s see how serious you really are. Give us the same ability that teachers have and give us the ability to live outside the city and then we’ll entertain the conversation about getting rid of the affidavit,” Catanzara told the Sun-Times.
This is a good move. There's no way Groot is going to allow either of those - and one of them is against State Law anyway - but it shows Groot isn't serious about finding any sort of middle ground. It's her way or the highway....and she can go fuck herself sideways with that sort of attitude.
Perhaps he should have addressed this nonsense at the same time?
Perhaps he should have addressed this nonsense at the same time?
- The City Council’s Black Caucus has threatened to block ratification of any police contract that continues to make it “easy for officers to lie” by giving them 24 hours before providing a statement after a shooting and also prohibits anonymous complaints (by requiring sworn affidavits) and allows officers to change statements after reviewing video.
As we've stated here and elsewhere, the FBI gets 72 hours. And it's well established Constitutional Law to be able to confront accusers - that's why the State Legislature codified the Sworn Affidavit into law. Just because democrat politicians spend their entire lives pissing all over the oaths they took doesn't mean that everyone gets to do it without consequences.
Groot is not a serious partner. We've know this for years. Now she's proving it once again. Arbitration isn't far away.

I'm all for arbitration!
This idiot mayor has no intention of solving the police contract just like the last Democratic idiot in charge!
She's all for kicking the can down the road!
And let’s just say she calls your bluff immediately. And she says go ahead and live outside of the city. Are you actually going to take it? Are you actually going to put everyone in jeopardy by getting rid of the no affidavit and other discipline? Don’t you dare trade a single thing for discipline. I don’t care if they give you $1 million a year to be a police officer, don’t trade anything including residency. She does not really care about residency. She believes that the northside and the 19th Ward should be gentrified and the only way to do that is to get rid of residency for city workers and she is prepared to do that in the name of residential equality throughout the city. Dumb in my opinion to even put it out there that you will trade anything or allow anything to change of what we already have. The people who scream residency Are the idiots who grew up in the suburbs, decided to become the Chicago police and realized it’s not everything they thought it would be. This is an old Brooke Orland Park or whatever subject you grew up in. If you don’t like it here then get out of here and stop trying to destroy the contract.
JCAT,
GREAT JOB!!!!!!
On a very serious note tho. The way you're sticking it to these city assholes you better invest in some military grade level 5 body armor plates. You never know what billionaires are capable of.
Maybe the Cops should seize a few areas of the city and declare their own autonomous zones for them and their families. Just get the 7ft square sand-filled Hesco boxes that the military uses when they are forced to live in the 3rd world, constantly surrounded by pesky, armed, unreasonable savages. You can make 21-foot high castle walls all the way around with plenty of razor wire and tin cans. "Home Sweet Home"! "Sweet Home, Chicago". Look kids, fireworks.
It’s about time, soon to be entering year 4 without a fair contract. Thank you, Mr. President. 🇺🇸
“ As we've stated here and elsewhere, the FBI gets 72 hours.”
And a “civilian” gets... what?
The City does not spend 33 million on the Schools for Police, Those officers are assigned to a District and will go in a Beat Car if they are not at the Schools.Basically you put money in the other pocket.
The Black Caucus can go fuck themselves. Gives us a chance to lie. Get the fuck out of here with that shit.
Around 40 years ago we had a disco demolition night at the old comiskey park. It might be time for a black lives matter demolition night. You fight fire with fire or you pack it in and leave.
I wouldn’t offer that up JCAT. She very possibly will give us residency anyways going from what the fire department union people are saying. She doesn’t really care about residency for city workers, she has already made that clear with her staff. Don’t give up anything that she may already be willing to give up. Especially big disciplinary things. Remember, many people are less than 5 years away from maxing out and leaving so discipline isn’t a huge deal. I’m at about 18 years and 11 left to go. It’s still a big deal for me and an even bigger deal for people with only 5 years on. Don’t sell them out so you can sell your house quicker.
Negotiate ? Yes, it's time to "Negotiate"! Remember; Your FOP president can only be as strong in negotiating with the city as his membership is. It appears FOP Lodge 7 has elected the right man for the job. The city will test him by seeing how strong the FOP membership is. Be ready and wiling to back up your president. Remember he speaks for you. It's not about how far he's willing to go, it's about how far, your willing to go ?
Arbitration Now.
Lazy Larri you better get up
She answered back,"I am not able"
Lazy Larri you better get up
We need a Contract on the table...
She’s not only in it for Affidavits clause, that’s just to open the door. We had anonymous complaints before and fought to eliminate the fictitious bullshit which plenty of us still have on the books - IN VIOLATION OF AGREEMENT. I don’t recall what at was given up in exchange, likely it was wage or benefit. Tack on 10 anonymous complaints they’ll have an option to fire you.
Larri is a lying conniving weasel far more treacherous than Shanks and Rahm.
Nobody here thinks they’re going to get a fair shake from Larri, or any civilian lead group, one that is outright biased and the other a real estate cheat.
Residency, I’d be surprised if 20% would take advantage of that. Takes an hour to drive from 51st to 016 during either rush hour, screw that traveling another hour from suburbs just to work the ghetto for a 12 hr tour.
I think it would be doable for maybe a house mouse or a short timer. Lifting residency will more likely apply to newbies when they can’t find locals to sign up for the New World Order Polizei.
Teacher issue makes sense.
No work - No pay or commensurate to hours and operations. There was no reason for teachers to stay at home. They should have been required to show up to empty classrooms and conduct the elearning from the school, Mon thru Fri.
City gives CPS their budget, saving on 3 months of operational costs and services that were suspended during the lockdown should be deposited into the Police budget. All teachers aides, clerks and assistants that stayed at home, were they getting paid too?
CTU has a Strike Fund, mostly goes to fund political campaigns but that fund should have supplemented any wage offset for StayAtHome.
Give’r hell JCat.
What's with Fr. Faker? I don't understand why the Catholic Church does not sanction him for breaking every rules against the Archdiocese. Cardinal Blaze Stupid, I am so disappointed in him. I stopped giving to the church! F - U
Not a cop, never wanted to be one, but I’ve always respected and admired cops. So thank you!
I already see it coming … Fat-ass is going to selectively tear a page from history. He’ll posture himself as a Calvin Coolidge type hero (Boston Police strike Circa 1919). But those of us that actually know history and have the mental discipline to frame it in its proper context also know that Coolidge is probably the most constitutionally conservative president, and politically elected official… certainly since Lincoln. Reagan probably a close second. Don’t believe the lies!!
Love this line about Larry. "Catanzara has slammed the door on those changes, putting him on a collision course with a mayor who made her bones in police reform".
Oh yes Larry has made his bones in police reform, he's a real tough, vulgar tiny tot. Larry thinks he is Edgar G. Robinson. Sorta looks like him though.
Good job by the FOP, keep the pressure on. Larry will soon flip her lid and have a complete meltdown. Larry is too busy today tweeting about Covid, Pride and other rubbish to deflect any accountability. This line sums up Larry and how he handled the riots, "Your silent stammers tell me more than all your lies" (Junkyard Groove). Yes, a true leader. Hahahehehoho
should have gone to a arbiter a long time ago.
JCAT has been in the news in his short time more than the previous 3. You needed a street fighter with Groot. You got one. Let her put her shoe where her mouth is.
Even the school board realized the feral brats would tear apart the school, monopolize classes and disrespect teachers. To that end I call bull on their half assed vote to boot the police out of schools.
They like the boogeyman there to take the heat when these asshat kids act out. Then they can blame the police when shit goes south.
The vocal minority wants the money for their own pet projects, and even if the contract were terminated they could whine and get special attention cars to pick up the slack on our dime.
I didn't vote for Cantazaro, but like how he is doing his job. Finally someone who speaks up.
it's about time that the FOP took on City Hall....
how about living with the truth of the matter. people resist, drive off in vehicles & fight the police. But overall lie & dont listen to authority while beating, stealing, shooting, rapeing, and killing. buts thats cool & takes precedence over the officer using force trying to stop it. that's our leaders, public & media - they've sided with the murderer. why are the police alone in this ? why does anyone care when the judge, media, states attorneys, & leaders will back a child molester/killer over an officer? that's a huge problem.
Look, if the contract cannot have a clause that demands the City to destroy police misconduct files because to do so would break current law, then why oh why do they want to codify in the contract a clause that violates a different state law that requires a sworn affidavit in order to file a complaint?
Don't play with the residency rule.
As much as I hate it, home values will go down if we are allowed to reside outside the city.
Black Caucus? Do we have a Latino Caucus? A White Caucus?
This guy is growing on me like moss grows on the shady side of a tree!
Groot appears to be a Race-Baiter and this is unacceptable for any Political Leader. She should resign, NOW.
It’s unfortunate that JC has the discipline history that he does, because he’s doing really well thus far. If he didn’t have his history we might actually be taken seriously.
Why are the local suburban mayors enforcing the mask rule on businesses? How do you politicians have absolutely no proof of the effectiveness of wearing masks in public, and her violating constitutional rights by forcing store and restaurant patrons to either wear a mask upon entry, or not be served. That is a violation of civil rights Time for numerous class action lawsuits. Put up or shut up. Show proof that masks have effectiveness or else it is logical to assume that it is all contrived political bullshit. It is time to lawyer up and start lawsuits
Very good start John! Now lets start that conversation about having the same amount of Police Personnel assigned to each District or have Police deployed on the basis of number of residents in each particular District. Then you could have that difficult and uncomfortable Racial conversation with the Mayor. How about starting a PILOT Program removing all Male White Officers from the 007th,011th,and 015th Districts replacing them with CAPS Officers and African American Officers thereby establishing a less hostile environment for those oppressed communities.
Breaking News...On the same weekend that Chicago had more that 120 people shot and 19 murdered (June 19-21) Lightfoot was spotted strolling down the streets of New Buffalo, Michigan with her wife. While we worked 12 hour days and had our days off cancelled, and while the city continues to be under attack, she left town for a nice weekend of coffee shops, antique shops and outdoor dinners and wine.
J-CAT is the man!

Based on what I’ve read over the past couple of weeks, Lori’s constituents think so little of the police they’d probably prefer they all move out of the city. She just got put in a really tough spot considering how nobody in CPS lives in the city whether they’re required to or not, and this is part of her opportunity to devote police reform that she ran her campaign on. Her office didn’t know how to respond to the request for comment, and conveniently failed to comment on the only reason they were asked for comment. I wonder how Lori and her team feel knowing they’ve been backed into a corner? Good thing her staff doesn’t get paid overtime because they’re going to be spinning the clock to figure out how to craft a real response.
Not a good idea. She will jump all over this. She doesn’t want the police living in this city. She sees the police as the hold up to “desegregating” the city and she has said that publicly before elected. She said that letting officers live outside the city would make it easier for mixed race residencies in all parts of the city giving all people a chance to live in all parts of the city. Hope she doesn’t take you up on that offer because selling out discipline is highly dangerous and reckless.
Are you going to negotiate the police contract the same way you negotiated the Teachers contract. You musta fired up a few Blunts before you signed off on that bullshit teachers contract.
Groot no one believes you. You pissed away any so called legitimacy with the teachers contract. From then on your slid into political hell has not stopped. Tell all your Democrat Socialist friends down there, a big Fuck You from all of us up here.
JC the right man for the job in this day and age. You would have never heard this type of criticism and rhetoric from any prior FOP president. All you naysayers should kick yourselves in the ass and be thankful we have someone isn’t afraid of this cesspool government and mayor. As Mooshell says, for the first time in my career, I am proud to have a FOP prez like JC. Don’t let your foot off the gas brother!!!
Hey Murder Queen and you stooge Dallas Brown. We still have a few days left in June. The murder clock show 310 and over 1600 people shot. You guys are doing a great job, no shit. You make national and international news all the time and always for all the wrong reasons. Being the Murder Queen of Shitcago and having the stooge from Dallas at your side make Mutt and Jeff hide in shame.
Great job Groot. BLM - not so much. The Community and its public safety not so much. Keep dumping on the slug Supt. He is your Bitch. He's everyone's Bitch. According to Groot, Brown is going to be the Best Supt the Department ever had. That is truly a dumb statement to make even for you. If its Brown flush it.
Hey cantazara how bout throw in insurance for 50yrs old and 29yrs on job so I can get the hell out , instead of 55 & out
Black Alderman don’t like police . Special attention to all violations of businesses in their wards . We don’t want people to catch covid19 in over crowded bars , restaurant . Watch for parking , city vehicle license violation.
Fuck you Groot, pay me and my full retro check. Ill be giving it back in property taxes but what the hell.
About Fucking Time we stood up to this Bitch !!
Ok. Let the city’s Inspector General investigate anonymous complaints about our elected Alderman and members of the mayor’s staff.
Police officers should receive the same considerations that lawyers, doctors and politicians receive, no more and no less. If a lawyer or a politician have privacy rights so should a police officer.
Why aren't the Aldercrooks pushing for people to be able to file anonymous complaints against them? As of now, you have to give your name and address obviously so the complained against Aldercrook can send the building inspectors out to your building to harass your landlord or you so you never even think about looking sideways at them ever again.
John- YOU ARE THE MAN, thank you Sir! I applaud and commend your outspoken and honest to God truths in taking her to task by put out or shut up!
That's what I'm talking about! Thanks JCat
Well, John just showed his hand full tilt. Let’s just say that the mayor now calls John on his offer. She says no problem, I’ll give you residency and the ability to strike and we get everything we want with discipline. Now John is in a bad spot. If he turns it down all of the residency cryers which there are TONS will blow a gasket if he now turns around and turns it down. If he accepts it then he destroys the department and folds to the mayor and many, many officers will be fired for things never imaginable before. I think people are not thinking about that. The guy giving the finger won’t get fired even though she wants him fired. The “loungers” she wants fired but they can’t be fired for that. Change it all up and believe me they are gone and fired yesterday. He said a dangerous thing because now she can put it all on his lap and let him either accept or turn it down and either way he will be burned at the stake. He just put the mayor in a very good position to embarrass himself.
Good for you John. Don’t let the bastards were you down.
If Lightfoot had any brains or financial sense she would embrace an extension of the time after a shooting and would be working to preserve the signed complaint requirement.
The case for preserving and even extending the cool off time time is that contrary to what the media portray, cops are generally not cold blooded psychopaths. Who casually stroll out to the middle of the street with a hand cannon in one hand and hotdog in the other and calmly blast away offenders is movie fantasy.
Having responded as a paper car to several police shooting and having seen the officer involved very shortly after the incident, they are in a state of shock. They have just survived death. A "what just happened" fog.
They need time to decompress. The mind is overloaded with adrenaline and emotion and need time to calm down. They need quiet time.
They don't need to be debriefed right away. There is plenty of other stuff to do.
There have been numerous studies by psychologists studying critical incidents, like police shootings, and they find that when given time to relax and decompress the officers give much more accurate and detailed accounts of the incident. This is critical for future proceedings. Especially the inevitable civil litigation which will cost the City much money. A cooling off period could save the City considerable money. Not that any of our politicians care about that.
Extending the interview time to 72 hours is not an unreasonable request or delay in the investigation. It will probably take that long just to collect all the video.
72 hours is probably the minimum. 96 hours might be better.
As for the anonymous complaints, they are waste of time and money.
Every complaint called has to be processed. Logged, numbered, assigned. A member has to be assigned to follow-up. While there is little if anything that can be done, the motions must be gone through, however pointless. This takes time. Man-hours. That is money. A complete waste and diversion from what could be more productive ventures. I am sure that there are real cases that could use some investigative time.
But this is contingent on Lightfoot having financial sense. Don't old your breath.
If they let employees live out side the city— well this place goes bell up like a whale. You will still have a few democrat cops who will carry water and live in the shit hole parts of the city. Why? No clue, but those guys are geniuses.
Groot won’t fall for it. You can tell him about a 20% pay cut across the board and it won’t fly
Regarding property values dropping if the residency requirement is lifted. There are 13,000 officers out of a population of 2.8 million, officers account for <0.5% of the population. Even if every officer sold their home (which they wouldn't, at least not at the same time), it would be statistically insignificant. Also, not every officer owns a home, some rent & some are living with family, so it would be even less than that.
The beauty of lifting residency is if you still want to live in this shit hole you can. I'm leaving.

A civilian has the Right to remain silent and refuse all inquiries by law enforcement. We and the feebs don't have that option.
If you're ever in a conflict: If someone yells at you, you need to yell louder back at him. Works almost every time.
So John needs to keep taking it up a notch. That's the only way he's going to gain control of the situation.
There's plenty of room west of Nagle Ave. for more police, fire, etc. Just ignore the potholes, airplane noise, handyman vans parked all over, dead end alleys, and so on and so forth.

A “civilian” is under no obligation to make a statement at any point in time. They can refuse to make a statement until they secure counsel, or if criminally charged, they can wait until trial. They can’t be compelled to make a statement like law enforcement is. So that’s what they get...

Exactly. Certain neighborhoods may take a small hit but many people would stay as they are established, have kids in school, etc.

Are you talking about a law abiding, concealed carry civilian? He theoretically gets forever, because he has a constitutional right to NOT make a statement. If you are talking about a ghetto thug who ventilates his rival dope dealer, he gets as much time as it takes for the detectives to identify, locate and arrest him. Sometimes that takes months wherein he can buy alibi witnesses, skip town, die of a heroin overdose...
We are afforded that luxury. We have to give statements.
Add settling each contract before it expires, no more years of expired contracts. Have a financial penalty for each day without a contract.

We don't have that right. We have to give statements.

She’ll never accept that offer. If so, than get ready for the blue flu every time someone gets stripped, suspended, or fired for a bullshit founded (anonymous) complaint. Since we would be able to strike. Because he asked for residency to be lifted AND the right to be able to strike in exchange for anonymous complaints to be set forth.

Typical negative, cry baby copper. Because we were taken so seriously with those last clowns we had as Presidents.
Other questions that need to be asked, why the department was so unprepared for the rioting? Why weren't the officers allowed to wear riot gear? Why don't all the officers have riot gear and gas masks? Why do we not have the longer batons used for riots? Why haven't the officers been trained to deal with riots? Why such a weak and pathetic gas system? Why weren't human needs looked out for the police officers? Who is going to be demoted and who is going to be fired for their incompetence?
We don't need a fucking text to tell us what to do. We know what to do.
Why isn’t the White Caucus fighting back with their own recomendations ? Nothing will EVER change when you have all these different groups. Instead of one city its Black Caucus, Hispanic Caucus, Queer Caucus, Hetero Caucus, Trans Caucus....its ridiculous. This city is segregated in 100 different ways. And a.ways will remain so as long as these phony caucuses exist. So fuck it. And fuck you Larry.

Got on the job 20 years ago and came from a suburb that was right on the city boarder. Yep, I wanted to be the "real police," as some of you handjobs referred to it. Some copper I worked with when I was a rookie told me that veterans like himself resented us suburban guys coming on the job. I replied to him, "Sorry, I didn't grow up on the mean streets of Eddison Park like a lot of you badass Northsiders." He shut the fuck up because what could he say?
Listen peaches: No one told me all those years ago I'd have to wear a body cam, be treated like a child, and have to deal with all the speed cameras, bicycle geeks riding around, an increasing influx of stupid yuppy urban pioneers, along with ultra-liberal politicians that make the goofs from 20 years ago seem conservative. Face it, Chicago just keeps getting shittier and weirder.
And I sure never fucking thought I'd see riots where the police just stood down and let these idiots loot, pillage, and burn. But hey, as long as they are making dope arrests in the ghetto then it's all good right? If you are worried about your home values, then understandable. If you want to stay in the city because of some type of city pride, then you are an idiot. Probably still like to bust balls about the whole Cubs vs Sox, North vs South rivalry, which being from the suburbs, I always thought was retarded and lame.

I want my insurance guaranteed
I want my retro and my raise
And I want the age to drop to at least
51 and watch how many of us leave
The city you won’t need residency as a leveraging point
Don't play with the residency rule.
As much as I hate it, home values will go down if we are allowed to reside outside the city.
................
Not my problem! I should be able to live where ever the fuck I want! It’s my right to do so!
Thank you John for standing up to the police hating troll! Fuck it Ill leave the city tomorrow, safer neighborhoods, better schools, better quality of life, less taxes, bigger house.
What your forgetting is it is not just the cops that would be leaving but any city employee would have that right. If you don't think that would change many neighborhoods and property values you have been taking too many yokes. That would bust up the few remaining nice areas of the city. Happened in the 60'same in very quick fashion. Austin went from a nice safe area, decent schools and parks to the hell hole it is today in about 3 years. Any decent area that has a lot of apartment buildings would go first then block by block the rest fall as the demographics change. Not if but when and how long it will take to make Mt Greenwood into an Austin or Englewood. They are already at the gates. Once it starts no stopping the change. I remember when to stop white flight the city passed an ordinance that made it illegal to have a forsake sign post3dmin a yard. Had to be put into window so it was harder to see. Didn't work. Once one home on a street sold the rest quickly followed. The first home got a good price but the rest sold at a lower price. Be careful what you wish for. Finally therected will be the tax issue if city workers are allowed to leave. Guarantee there will be sizeable tax increases as the property values fall and taxpayers leave to be replaced by lower tier wage earners. The trick will be raising the mill levy as the property values decline. Those that fail to study history are doomed to repeat it.

You ain't the FBI folks. Your the CPD under the thumb of a hateful Mayor. She will do what she wants despite your best efforts. In short your all screwed. Nice to see the FOP finally fighting back, however afraid it might be to little and way to late.

Not true. That's been debunked.

6/24/2020 04:18:00 PM
It's a negotiating tactic. He, of all people, won't give up disciplinary protections for anything.
Teachers are no long allowed to live outside the city. Those that do should be old already and retired or almost on the way out. The new liberal hires do what ever they want like live outside the city with little or no or selective recourse. Because there is not enough employees to do the job. Maybe We should try this method at CPD.

The public is completely ignorant about this 24 hr. rule. Even the American Conservative wrote an article about it, partially, to which I responded at length and they refused to publish my response in the comments section, even after I removed the swear words.
It is an administrative rule, not a criminal rule. If the Dept. orders you to answer, generally, and you refuse, you can be fired for refusing a direct order. You can't just play around administratively and refuse to answer. This just gives us 24 hrs. before we can be fired for refusing to speak. However, criminally, this does not apply. If a cop is arrested he gets his Miranda warnings like anyone else and he/she makes the decision on whether to invoke - a decision made completely outside of this 24 hr. rule.
And, really, what is 24 hrs.? Ok you don't have to talk today but when you come in to work tomorrow you'd better be ready to flap your gums. It's not a long time and it is not going to make a guilty cop look innocent, it just doesn't work that way.
The Stress caused by a circumstance that involves a serious investigation of an Officer, as in a OIS, is a Medical and Psychological matter. Blood pressure will be elevated, and the Officer may become very confused. So,the matter of the "Interview", which replaced the plainly illegal "Round Table" of the past, should trigger an automatic admission to a hospital for Observation and treatment to lower blood pressure and anxiety caused by the incident. While under Medical Care, the Officer cannot be interviewed. Just state: I am having trouble breathing and feel dizzy. And believe me, if you have been in such an incident, all that I describe will take place. Don't play Macho, admit that you do not feel well enough to answer questions properly. You will feel better when you are in the presence of competent counsel, following medical care.Stay Safe and Realize; that YOU are the new Enemy. Baby "G"
It’s a short sighted threat by JC. She can’t give the cops the right to strike so it’s residency against open season on discipline with no accuser necessary. Anyone that thinks this is a good deal is crazy. She’d be nuts not to say okay to the deal. When the cops threaten to strike the courts step in to stop it and then you either work or get fired. And they can basically fire any copper they don’t like with bogus charges from bogus accusers. Oh but you get to move to Arlington Heights. Congratulations!
The City Council's black caucus is a HATE group.
She is at her most vulnerable. Go after her. There just might be enough normal people left in Chicago to put pressure on her.

Apparently you don't look around much. There is no "great" neighborhood anymore. The riff raff has flanked you. It's over. Save yourself and your family from exposure to mopes in daily travel. And just a final thought.... You shouldn't have got over your head buying too much house. It's called living within your means, kid.
Your property values won't go down if they lift residency, anymore than having high crime, bad schools, or high taxes do! Idiots!
Who gives a shit if it changes the neighborhood if you're dumb enough to stay here then you deserve it. This is shitcago it's not a nice place, highest crime and second-worst fiscal state. Your a moron if you stay.

Now this is where the comparison to Detroit becomes more apt.City leaders and real estate people said this same exact thing back in 1968-70 when all of Detroit,s Police and Fire Personnel were allowed to move out of the City.If I recall my childhood memories correctly they were-They make up a very small percentage of the city population so it will not matter.Other City Workers will not move because its too expensive. No one can afford to live in those fancy towns outside of the city.Crime will not be effected. We still have good people here.48 Hours after the order went into effect, the City of Detroit was on fire and in a short few weeks was destroyed as a mass flight from the city ensued.Fast forward to today and you have hundreds of residential blocks within the City of Detroit that are less than 20% inhabited and receive little to no city services.
Not my problem! I should be able to live where ever the fuck I want! It’s my right to do so!
6/25/2020 01:05:00 AM
It is your problem. You willingly signed away your right "to live where ever the fuck I want!" when you sought and accepted employment with the City of Chicago.
Great job JCAT! Keep up the good work for your fellow officers and the silent majority.
If you live in Garfield ridge sign up at southwest home equity. It's on 65 street near cicero. For about 200 dollars they guarantee your home's value. I am appraised at 465000. So if I sell for 400000. They give me 65000. It's on your property tax bill.
Exactly. Certain neighborhoods may take a small hit but many people would stay as they are established, have kids in school, etc.
6/24/2020 10:43:00 PM
You are in denial! Small hit? You must have taken a big hit to your head.
Philly pd made it 7 yrs and out, keeps property values intact and tax base.
Once again...a loud mouth doesn’t make a good FOP president. Let’s wait for results, speaking intelligently will work especially when you know the laws. Residency is something that we can sue for...we tried before but supposedly didn’t get enough votes from the officers. Besides why give them shit anyway...that will open the floodgates and ruin this dept even worse!
Stay vigilant and fetal on!

Uh, maybe you should be paying a little bit closer to current history that is going on right around you. If these protests and riots become the new norm, which is very likely considering our pussy politicians let these jagoffs riot and loot without any consequences, businesses will be moving out in droves if they haven't started already. I shouldn't have to tell you that after that, the normal citizens will start fleeing for their own safety. I for one dont want to be the only one living here with just other city employees, race baiting progressives, off the boat immigrants that dont speak english, and white yuppy dorks named "Todd," and "Trent." Wake up!

6/24/2020 09:26:00 PM”
Exactly. Certain neighborhoods may take a small hit but many people would stay as they are established, have kids in school, etc.
6/24/2020 10:43:00 PM
True but also take a look around your neighborhoods and notice the very large numbers of retirees that still live there. Notice the cops and firefighters you’ve worked with or associated with that retired and never left. It’s kinda shocking how many never leave Chicago. I don’t think many active members will leave but possibly new hires will stay in the burbs. That’s if anyone ever wants to take this job anymore.

This is just not true. You still sell the home for the market price. The new owner still pays taxes. Their are many officers who will NOT move. Either they are close to retirement and are planning an out of state move and dont want to move twice within a short period of time, or the young officers who enjoy the nightlife the city offers. It won't be a mass exodus as you think. Most guys/girls bitch but when it comes time to do something they DONT.
“.:: referred to it. Some copper I worked with when I was a rookie told me that veterans like himself resented us suburban guys coming on the job. I replied to him, "Sorry, I didn't grow up on the mean streets of Eddison Park like a lot of you badass Northsiders." He shut the fuck up because what could he say? ...”
You’re right, he was probably laughing too hard to respond. Those mean streets of Arlington Heights or Schaumburg was where it was at, huh? Learn to spell, dumbass.
Everyone knows about the residency requirement, so why take the job and then cry about it?

FOP meeting lasted almost 3 hours. The mic is for QUESTIONS not for you to suck the new President’s a**. It was ridiculous. Ask your question then move along.
To the stupid morons ...u know the what if guys from your academy class... . This would NEVER happen first Lightfoot can’t change state law .. . There is 0% risk in making this statement .
6/24/2020 11:34:00 PM
She COULD get the state law changed if she wanted to. If she says that she can't, she's lying, particularly since the Chicago residency law ONLY affects Chicago municipal employees. Madigan & Co. will change it if that's what Lightfoot wants done.

C'mon now. This is CHICAGO. That's not the way they work.
How about residency for retro?
"She’ll never accept that offer. If so, than get ready for the blue flu every time someone gets stripped, suspended, or fired for a bullshit founded (anonymous) complaint. Since we would be able to strike. Because he asked for residency to be lifted AND the right to be able to strike in exchange for anonymous complaints to be set forth."
You will never, never see a blue flu in Chicago.
CPD has never, and will never stick together.
Everyone wants to protect whatever they think they got.
Who protested against Kimmy, mostly retired cops.
"Why wert you there?, I asked several afterward.
I'd loose my car, partner, starting time, watch bid, district bid,
time due requests, etc, etc, etc.
Going fetal was started about fifteen years ago.
There have been a million posts about working, real policing, is
foolish, stupid, insane, and cops are still being proactive, bringing
in guns & dope. Recently, we just have a citywide, Blues Brothers
veh chase, witch unlike the BBs, didn't end well. After dozens of
incidents of cops getting suspended, fired, jailed, assets drained,
the brain dead continue to bring in numbers & heads.
Blue flu? Cops are refusing to stay home when they have the C19!
6/24/2020 09:26:00 PM
Boy oh boy stop sniffing glue and markers. It sets precedence for all other city and county workers to push for lifting residency from their contracts as well. Add those numbers you CPS fuckin Genius
You realize you're comment just reinforces that the schools are better in the suburbs, lift residency. Genius!
The great thing about lifting residency is if you don't wanna move you don't have to.
How come Lori can choose who she wants to love but I can't choose right want to live?
Everyone is writing about the lower taxes outside the city, well guess what that ain't so.
Residency could be phased out. Establish a threshold like 15 or 20 years on the job or when you are eligible to retire. It will at least crack the door open to start with and there would be no cop flight. I know plenty of retired guys that never moved, so there would not be a mass exodus anyway.
""Got on the job 20 years ago and came from a suburb that was right on the city boarder. Yep, I wanted to be the "real police," as some of you handjobs referred to it""
Some of these "handjobs" like me saved so many suburban guys from beefs and tickets I'd need a calculator to keep count of them all. In the nightclubs, on the streets, with banana's of every kind. I even saved them when they were jagoffs, mostly from themselves, even when they didn't deserve it. I never hurt their family's either.
We were, and are, all Blue. I know things have changed and the entire shit job is a video recording but we are still all blue and I was never but a gentleman when stopped in the suburbs or by the State.
I consider it my greatest achievement of my career. Everything else but that was all bullshit. A "real" Police lives by codes.

STFU you old windbag! This is the dumbest comment I have ever read!! Watch out everyone, the new Englewood will start at Harlem and Touhy soon......moron
Tell the Pres to check the union emails as he was sent detailed info on 20-25 Steinmetz HS employees in violation of the CPS Residency Policy and others from Taft, Curie, Lane, and few other schools. If he can't find it, post an email to send it to tomorrow.
Some of the violators are heads of depts, been doing it for 15-20 years, and are close to making $100,000.
Shot just got real!!!

Nope you're wrong. Several teachers and other need basis employees get residency waivers. Asst principals are now able to get waivers if they were getting one while they were teaching or working in a need basis area.
The catch to get a waiver is youm ust be a non-Chicago resident at the the time of your hiring and work in a need basis area.
Some areas are (get this): PE, Shops, SPED, ROTC, All Foreign Languages, Math, Science, Counselor, Librarian, Nurse, and Speech Pathologists.
Not many subjects aren't need basis areas anymore. They are: English, History, Clerks, Security, Principal, Business, Art, Music, and a few others
My main concern:
Pension
Medical insurance
Residency(when retired you can live anywhere)
Funny,I remember back in the mid 70,s that smarter than everyone else people on this job also called people morons when they warned all of those Officers that the Austin Neighborhood was about to crumble due to Police residents fleeing the area in mass.It took about a year and a half for the destruction of that 12 by 12 block neighborhood. When it happens it is like a runaway locomotive.Like dominoes,Police flee first, then fire, then all other City workers, and finally the few hundred or so Public School Teachers that actually abide by the residency rule leave and the northwest side of Chicago neighborhoods resemble those in Detroit.Want to be shocked into reality?Go to Google and take a drone flight over a Detroit neighborhood. And the flight from their city happened about 50 years ago.

That ugly liberal shithead that interviewed and edited the piece, I wonder what else he said that was edited out. Larry thinks she doesn't need to even deal with the union, the reform train has left the station. God I hate that pompous twit. Watch it for yourself. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sz9SdYfLQrM
It was my first meeting at FOP. I was very impressed with the new President and he clearly was not what I expected. His whole team were spot on. They seem to get along and not fight. Unlike ever FOP crew I've seen in 15 years. Thank you Mr President! We may loose but at least you are fighting for us.
I’ll trade my retro for residency in a heartbeat.
What are your homes going to be worth as all these taxes keep going up. Your home value will dive but property taxes still increase
How about residency for retro?
I paid my place off in 15 years, wtf would I trade for retro. You must be that guy who added the addition to his house then vri was cut.
Don't wish too much, the "fridge" aka: JB, will use the legislature to make the necessary changes that the "people" demand. Yes, property taxes will increase while values decrease. Yes, the system will win and the Crusaders will lose and there is a very good probability that the east coast irishman will be president come the night of November 3rd, 2020. That said, you should concentrate on getting out, sooner than later, rather than hoping that "J.C." is the savior; because he's not. Everyone has a price.
What are your homes going to be worth as all these taxes keep going up. Your home value will dive but property taxes still increase.
Residency won't affect your home price. But, your drug dealing neighbor, abandoned house on your block, pothole in the front of your house the rats in your alley, and the homeless guy camped out at the corner bus stop will.
Everyone is writing about the lower taxes outside the city, well guess what that ain't so.
Chicago sales tax 10.25%
Buffalo Grove sales tax 7% And no bag fee, $30 city sticker, no water bottle tax... I can keep going if you like
Every police officer will NOT move out of Chicago if RESIDENCY passes. Many will still stay in Chicago. Not every police officer owns, many live at home, many rent. So it's not true that EVERY police officer is going to move out of Chicago.
My condo is paid in full, cars are paid, zero card cards, my biggest headache and expense is the ex wife!!!!!!
People forget that one will receive $500K for a house in Edison Park. Even if EP becomes ghetto, just hold out for a $500K house. 😃
