Downtown Dangerous?
The big names in media aren't covering this for some reason, even though it happened right outside one of their front doors:
- Police are conducting a death investigation after a woman was found dead on a plaza sidewalk outside NBC Tower in Streeterville.
Fire department and police personnel responded to 439 North Cityfront Plaza at 8:05 a.m. Monday. Paramedics administered CPR to the 52-year-old woman and transported her to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, according to a police department spokesperson. She was pronounced dead at 8:59 a.m.
A witness said the woman was bleeding, and a police report indicates that her teeth had been recently knocked out, but the cause of her injuries was not known.
Maybe teeth spontaneously fall out around NBC Tower?

When are the officers that work down in 018 and 001 going to start filming these mobs of teens terrorizing people and shoplifting downtown?! Why does the Media hide the out of control Violence Downtown ? Like car jacking,Looting,Shooting's, They Can't handle the Truth 99% of the Offender's are Black and it doesn't fit their fake Systematic Racism.
Streeterville residents have been warned several times, not via media, that middle-aged and older women are being targeted by violent muggers. Typically, mugger jumps out of car, punches woman several times in head, then steals her purse and/or phone, and jumps back into car. These women are injured, require medical care, sometimes hospitalized, but nope, it's of ZERO PRIORITY TO CITY HALL.
Ditto for the carjackings that occur in Streeterville.
It's almost like a White Privilege street-tax meted out by "the community of color". Residents and tourists alike are robbed, injured, and deprived of their basic sense of personal-safety. I recently read a description of Seattle's city-employee diversity class on "white privilege", required for white employees, which cajoled white folks to "give up their need for personal safety because that's a white privilege". Folks, that's what's happening here in Chicago too: "white privilege = safe streets = racism".
Northwestern has posted warnings; Northwestern is also supposedly patrolling Streeterville with its own campus police - to no avail. I rarely see CPD in Streeterville, aside from at Northwestern ER drop-off zone; I think everyone knows it's an under-patrolled area. And I think Chicago tourism is doomed, due to international media coverage of Chicago's extreme violence, that and fact that mugged tourists GO HOME AND TELL EVERYONE about their negative experiences. Being mugged isn't same as being scared on a Disney World adventure-ride.
Incompetence, corruption, and blatant criminality are the hallmarks of Chicago.

Downtown is already dead. A large percentage of the businesses won’t come back or will drastically reduce their office lease space due to the year they spent working at home. Tourism was booming pre COVID however it will not come back to anywhere near the levels seen due to the criminal element that has taken hold. Mass transit is unsafe and looks terrible, the officers do nothing and i can’t blame them.
Unfortunately the real victims will be us. Our pensions will be further jeopardized when the Chicago economy crashes even further due to the loss of the economic engine that once was downtown. The pension issue is obviously the only one does and should matter.
Why would anyone venture to downtown Chicago to shop? For that matter, why would any business even bother restocking and opening back up after those riots? They get what they deserve! I feel no sympathy for anyone that gets clobbered wandering downtown sightseeing or shopping!

Find the victim's identity and start posting her picture on the NBC buulding. Hold it up in front of NBC reporters every time they show up to cover anything. C'mon NBC, "say her name", to borrow a popular phrase.
This is ridiculous. So many cities are becoming no-go zones. Chicago, St. Louis, Baltimore, Atlanta, NYC, Portland, Seattle. Almost as if it was coordinated...
I have never commented here before. I have read several posts here about Streeterville and Near North/River North. A few observations. This area isn't nearly as white as some people seem to think. I see comments here about rich white preppie types; that not has been my experience in almost ten years in this area. Keep in mind that while some buildings are almost new, quite a few are aging 1960s buildings that have seen very hard use over the years. The majority of owners here appear to be foreign nationals and/ or recent arrivals, many of whom are absentees. These people are mostly Chinese, followed by Indian and Middle Eastern. The majority of white owners, and they are not in the newer buildings, are elderly. To me they appear passive and frightened.
The majority of pedestrians appear to be lower-income and black, especially east of Michigan Avenue. These neighborhoods have been declining for some years now, but have recently slid very sharply. So again, not the wealthy white area that some imagine. Also keep in mind that the newest buildings now are in Lakeshore East, a different neighborhood. To the person who commented about the building maintenance man: maybe in the most expensive buildings. Otherwise, good luck getting him to do much of anything. As far as the Northwestern police, they are concerned with protecting Northwestern's property and are around all the time. But if you live here, how much do you want to feel that you are being policed and watched? The main problem right now appears to be the large number of people coming from areas to the west.
