For someone who claims to be a stickler for Law, Groot is not only a petty liar, but a typical tyrant when it comes to being a Karen:
- The veteran Chicago police commander in charge of the district where Mayor Lori Lightfoot lives was unceremoniously reassigned Friday. Cmdr. Melvin Roman has been transferred to the department’s Crime Prevention and Information Center effective immediately, said CPD spokesperson Maggie Huynh. The move was made “in anticipation of upcoming retirements,” she said.
But multiple department sources have told CWBChicago that Roman was spiked over the handling of recent protests that closed down intersections and caused disturbances near Lightfoot’s home in Logan Square. One source pointed to an incident this week in which an unmarked Chicago police vehicle— with lights and siren activated—appeared to strike protesters who ran in front of it as it moved slowly down a sidewalk. The source said supervisors failed to notify department higher-ups about the incident promptly.
A second source said there was general displeasure among “higher-ups” with the overall handling of the recent protests near Lightfoot’s home. “Obviously Lightfoot didn’t like the handling of the protesters last night.”
"Handling" is code for "refusing to make un-Constitutional arrests as defined by the law." We saw the same thing earlier in her term when she launched the Sergeant at City Hall who had been there for three different mayors, handled his job professionally at all times and pretty much knew exactly what the law entitled protestors to do and exactly where protestors were allowed.
Not good enough forKaren Groot though. The common folk cannot ever be allowed to protest her.

While I am no fan of our evil dwarf-hobbit mayor, and think she may go down as one of the worst things to happen since the Chicago Fire, I do find a little bit of an issue with the terminology of “refusing to make unlawful arrests.”
While it might make me a bit of a scholarly nerd, I do tend to enjoy knowing and being able to reference laws as they pertain to the ILCS and the MCC.
In this regard I would like to reference the Illinois Compiled Statutes 720 ILCS 5/21.1-2 “Residential Picketing”
It states in summary “ A person commits residential picketing when he or she pickets before or about the residence or dwelling of any person, except when the residence or dwelling is used as a place of business.”
Sec. 21.1-3. Sentence. Violation of Section 21.1-2 is a Class B misdemeanor.
So if they were indeed protesting at Lightfoots residence, it would not exactly be accurate to say any arrests would be “unlawful.”

Preckwinkle was right up in your face on her hatred of the Police and not wanting "people of color" to be arrested. While in a real world legal sense you are correct the problem is that if an officer makes that statutory legal arrest against the idiot mayors wishes he/she is in for a world of problems. First some overpromoted (never was the police boss) will be happy to write you up for violating a direct order .... Second and most disturbing is when the case makes it to the Cook County court system it will be tossed anyway..oh, and don't forget the door will be left open for the arrestee to sue the officer for falsely arresting them. Wish I I could be there to let them get by and peacefully throw some bricks through Groots windows. And then I'd want them to peacefully express themselves via artistic expression by painting their hurt all over that idiot mayors house.

I observed numerous high ranking CPD bosses hiding in the mercy hospital security room watching security footage for an hour while MEL ROMAN took charge. If you are a cpd exempt and you are unsure of your abilities during a high profile incident, my advice to you is surround yourself around MEL ROMAN. He is the real deal but alas my advice will probably fall on deaf ears. Don't worry MEL, experience, intelligence and class always come out on top. Best wishes sir.

sorry, I was one of the first cars on scene, and don't remember this at all. no exempt was "HIDING" in the security room. yes, they were looking at video, but it was after the fact. I guarantee he didn't beat 160 there. I've met Roman, but never worked for him. but this isn't true.
This is true, Mel Roman took charge. In fact Sgt. Chris Bell and Sgt. Andrew Dakuras responded from the 018th district and entered the building and offered aide to the fatally wounded officer. Yes you are correct, Capt. Roman wasn't the first car on scene but he did take charge and set up staging areas, directed manpower and initiated other necessary duties including offering much needed assistance to the mortally wounded officers partner.
