- A Defend the Police rally Saturday in Grant Park that drew counter protesters featured heated rhetoric between the two sides, but remained largely peaceful.
Rally organizers said they wanted to show support for police officers and push back against protests that have followed the May 24 police killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis.
“Not only do [police officers] have to deal with the protesters who have absolutely no respect for them whatsoever, but then they have to deal with the elected officials that throw them under the bus,” organizer Tina McGrath said.
The 200-person demonstration began about 2 p.m. near the site of a Christopher Columbus statue that was removed by the city Friday. The group waved American flags and held signs that read, “God bless our police” and “Lightfoot is a communist.”

Great cause. Poorly advertised. Retired CPD here. Walked there East on Roosevelt and when I got feet before the Rally I was redirected which turned out to be completely away from the event. Who made that plan. I’m sure there would have been many more there

Quite different from what happened in Denver last Sunday. A "Back the Blue" rally (with permit) was broken up by the communist group that begins with an "A" (no permit). The Denver Police Chief gave orders to stand down when the commies began marching toward the Pro-Police Rally. They had a 1/4 mile or so to stop them, but didn't. One stand-up SWAT Lt. defied orders and kept his men close-by, but not close enough to stop 2 of the Pro-Police organizers from being beaten.
This same Denver Police Chief was marching arm-in-arm with BLM last month (SMH)

I would have been there but I’m visiting family in Indy. Friends of mine went but were nervous before going because of last Friday’s violence. It was a relief to them that today was so quiet. Numbers were probably low because others were nervous too.

One more thing. Many years ago I retired to Wisconsin and worked part-time for a Sheriff's department. One day I was asked to work with another retired Chicago police officer. We were assigned to a traditional event held by "those people." We stopped a car racing through the event. In the car were two of "those people." The driver was angry about being stopped and thought it necessary to tell us that he had graduated from college.
Felling that I was expected to acknowledge his declaration I answered, So tell me, how did being a college graduate help Custer?

There should have been 100,000 people at the rally to show our Mayor how the law abiding, tax paying citizens support our Police and law enforcement. All the good people of Chicago, the ones that don’t have their heads in the sand, can see that our elected officials ( Lightfoot, Fox, Dart, Preckwinkle, Evans) are anti Police and “ law enforcement “. For the criminals it’s a game of catch and release after being arrested for crimes. There are no consequences for their actions and no surprise to normal thinking people why crimes and murders are out of control. When the terms of these elected officials are up they must be voted out of office if we don’t want Chicago to become another Detroit.

Floyd died because he had a lethal level of narcotics in him, and fought the police. Coroner report says he did not die of asphyxiation, nor even had injuries to his neck or trachea.

If any police officer gives the media any kind of interview information or anything you need to see psychological help, they totally disregard us absolutely no coverage of what a great rally at wise, that’s the democratic controlled evil media typical but yet when the criminal has something to say they can’t even speak they shove that microphone in their face and they take whatever they say is if it’s truthful which we all know they do nothing but lie!
There was no problems because Antifa and BLM are pussys. They wouldn’t start shit because they would have gotten an ass beating by the pro police crowd.
My wife and I attended the rally. Plenty of Police on scene which is expected and appreciated. Approximately 300 or so attendees at the high point. Because of the heat the attendees expanded and contract through out the 2 hour period. Regardless of the size it was loud and it was not intimidated by a handful of BLM/Antifa trouble makers with noise makers. The on duty folks did a good job as expected. The speakers hit the major points. JCat said there would be more rallies.
Several points for consideration:
*Pick and plan carefully rally dates and locations that are favorable for our requirements,
*Contract out a solid professional firm (preferably with no ties to the local hacks) to mark off the public square for sharing our position regarding public discourse unfiltered by the bias and activist media. Then advertise, advertise and advertise. Pressers, pressers and more pressers. Leaders must be seen and heard in a favorable light.
* We need a counter-balance to Democrat Socialism and corruption spawned by Democrats for the last 70 years. Expose the Democrat plantation politics, murders, shooting and gang violence for those 70 years. Their war on poverty and crime has given the Community what they see everyday. Democrats this year have given the Community over 2200 shot and 434 murders in the first 6 months. Those are talking points that need to be highlighted and the reasons why 70 years of failure.
* Work with the Feds.
* Give the Bosses the magic number that sends them into panic mode. Zero.
* Don't trust the Murder Queen. The Italian Americans did and the Queen stole the statues in the middle of the night like a thief. Democrats are liars and the Queen, under her reform banner, is a compulsive liar.
* Unity, focus, goals, and mission are key components to any measure of success. Identify the public goals and secret away the planning and courses of action to meet success.
* JCat is a force to be reckoned with and he should be fully supported in his and the FOP's efforts to bring sanity to sound and responsible policing the streets of Crazy Town.
* These are very uncertain and dangerous times. Foreign and domestic enemies with political, criminal and seditious intents are out to forever change the republic and formerly introduce you our nation to Democratic Socialism - the new World Order. Fanciful, improbable or maybe scary. Never gonna happen. Just look at New York City, Portland, Seattle, Wash. DC, Denver, KC, Minneapolis, Atlanta, LA and Chicago. I went into the oil fields in order to pay for college. Made 50/hr as a derrickman, and nobody asked for a diploma. Back to college. Eventually graduated with honors, did 2 years of grad school and decided F**K these a**holes and went into the Army. Instead of law school went Infantry. Biggest fools on God's Green Earth are those liberal arts majors with 100k in debt. "So you paid, 500K for an Anthropology degree?(smirks) Well, my dad did(chuckles). So that's 500K plus interest that you won't inherit. The look of crashing despair was priceless. We have met the enemy, and they are stupid.
You'd have 100x the number of people oit supporting LE if they knew they wouldn't be attacked / doxxed by Antifa terrorists and their media partners. Every time the normal people of the country try to simply have something like a show of support for people who put their lives on the line, we wind up with lunatics screaming in our faces and trying to get us fired from our jobs for not condemning the police. I’ll say it: the sentiment was nice and much appreciated but that rally left a bit to be desired. Retired CPD here and I was glad to see so much love and support for The Blue but if the best we can come up with is a few hundred old-timers like myself while the BLM/Antifa/Whatever Those Kids Were Yelling About crowd is the young and energized, not to mention more of them, then I gotta wonder how much longer our side is for this world.

Let's be glad we don't. It took the Weimar to bring that kind of lawlessness. Once the police are in pitched battles with the communists, the state will no longer have a monopoly on sanctioned force. At that time there will be plenty of Vets that will be glad to use their training. The key is having nothing to lose. Once that happens, all bets are off. I wanted to go but I'm not as vigorous as I once was. I just won't stand in the heat for a few hours, plus, the fact that these communist provocateurs might kick some shit off and I'm not going to be accosted at my age by a 20 something asshole and not try to respond appropriately. Maybe the next one could be where I could find a place to park or near an El stop that's not near the Red Line, worked many days of special employment on the Red Line, if I'm not on the clock, I won't step foot on it and during a day when the temperature is a little more accommodating to an old guy that doesn't want to vapor lock while cheering on my former coworkers.

My grandfather was an officer in kaisers army.. during the 1920 he was living in Breslau which was in eastern Germany at the time. He had a story of seeing the freikorp staging in a section of Breslau on their way to Berlin. I recall him describing an armored vehicle with a machine gun on top. As the person said, they were former German soldiers. Just so everyone knows— some one deleted sections of Wikipedia that outlines this period of German history. I second that. I wish more people spoke up but there you have it- here you have a vocal part of the population that came out to declare that they support you and they are willing to vote on it.
I'm sorry many of us are unable to show our appreciate to you good coppers; when I have to choose between being outed and losing my job or keeping my mouth shut to keep providing for my family, I have to bite my tongue and hold out for a few more years until I can flee to retirement elsewhere. But know lots of us do support you.
Chicago has been exactly like a war zone for the past few months. When a war is happening, policing ends. Local crooks settle scores and violently take territory in a policing vacuum. Once it becomes dangerous for the criminals, they fade into the woodwork and wait for more opportunity to present itself.
The past few weeks are what "Defund the Police" look like.

The attendance would have been much better if they held the rally at Arrigo (Peanut) Park. At least there you would have been much closer to where normal people live.

You're right. You can, but most people are content with parroting what they read on Fakebook. I recently had to set one of my “friends” straight on the VanDyke incident. All these years she was repeating the lie that McDonald was shot only in the back. When confronted with information from the M.E.'s report, which was available on-line, all she had to say was, “I stand corrected.”
