- Mayor Lori Lightfoot has fired Paul Stewart, her top cannabis adviser and assistant deputy mayor, though it’s still unclear what led to his ouster.
“Mr. Stewart is no longer an employee at the Mayor’s Office. As this is a personnel matter, we will not be commenting any further,” Pat Mullane, a spokesman for the mayor’s office, said in a statement Tuesday.
A City Hall source told the Sun-Times that Stewart was “shocked” when the news came down Monday that he was fired. Stewart didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.
Politics being politics (and Groot being Groot) it could be anything - illness, scandal, like we said - anything.
But then this (allegedly) happened at HQ around 1700 hours Tuesday:

We have no idea and our regular mole on the Groot Detail hasn't said yet. But didn't Smith have some sort of ties to cannabis security? At least that's what this article says:

Stop and think about this; " down to 27 sworn". That is a lot of bodyguards, for any mayor, in any town. This bodyguard/driver/gofer privilege that the political class in this town thinks is their god given right has been out of control for a long time. You cannot tell how many officers are assigned as bodyguard and drivers of the protected class. Many used to be in the " detail unit", but when I was in Intelligence, there were at least 3 who were detailed as bodyguards from that unit and they never hit the sheets at the detail unit . I have even seen officers detailed from districts.

Presumably, shooter takes off towards police line. Several take off after him. 1st guy kicks shooter as he trips. Shooter may have taken one shot, misses and 1st guy runs off. 2nd guy (skateboarder) hits shooter (who is seated on the ground) over the head with skateboard. Shooter gets him center mass. 3rd guy (paramedic) closes with pistol drawn. 3rd guy feigns surrender and shooter (still seated) lowers weapon. Paramedic then closes and aims weapon at shooter. Shooter (still seated) hits him in the arm.
Meanwhile other shots can be heard down the street. Shooter gets up, fires a couple rounds in direction of gunfire from the direction he came, then walks towards police line with both hands raised and rifle slung. Police don't realize he was involved and send him along as theh head towards wounded in street.
Plenty of video and stills supporting this timeline. Anything else has a high likelihood of media manipulation.
If there is any silver lining it will be to convince immortal teens and 20-somethings that riots are bad and they are to be avoided.

So when did Cannabis STOP being an entry level drug that leads to more serious drug use?
The kid charged with murder in Kenosha looks like he might have a good self-defense claim: he was attacked by a mob, first one tried a flying kick at his head, second one tried to hit him on the head with a skateboard... third one was about to attack when the kid fired in self-defense from a sitting position on the ground surrounded by people and folks threatening to kill him.

I think you have a much better case for shooting back when the shitheads come to your house than when you gun up and head out to the riot.
Don't get me wrong he quite likely would be a vegetable now if he had not been armed and went to the riot.
However staying home and waiting for the trouble to find you would be a better option.

so, this teen travels to another state to attend a riot while openly carrying a rifle? What could go wrong? I have never believed in open carry and carrying a rifle just sets you up to use that rifle and be tested by the thugs. Well, it happened and now he sits in jail charged with murder. Even if he beats all charges his life is changed forever.
