Decrease of the Increase?

  • Murders and shootings reported last month in Chicago increased drastically from July 2019, but overall crime in the city decreased, according to data released by Chicago police.

The 105 murders reported in July mark a nearly 139% increase from the 44 reported in July 2019, while the 406 shooting incidents are a 75% increase from the 232 last July, according to figures in a statement from police Saturday.

The Sun-Times has counted 106 homicides throughout Chicago in July 2020 and a total of 430 for the year through the end of July.

So far this year, murders are up 51% compared to the period from January through July 2019, along with a 47% increase in shootings, police said.

The number of shooting victims for July came in at 573, with at least 58 of them minors, according to Sun-Times records.
Heyjackass.com has slightly different numbers:
  • Shot and Killed: 94 (+135%)
    Shot and Wounded: 498 (+74%)
    Total Shot: 592 (+81%)
    Total Homicides: 105 (+133%)
And everyone is supposed to believe that "overall" crime is down? This is one of those cases where the bean-counters include previously disregarded crimes to make the stats look better. The thing is that no one cares about "overall" numbers - they care about bodies and bodies with extra holes in them, and by any stretch, these numbers indicate a massive failure.

Did they just classify all of the property damage and rioting to one general offense case report. That is the only way over all crime can be low then last year. Realistically crime is much higher all around compared to last year. This admin is such big liars and the media just follows their lead. This is shameful for the good citizens of this city.

Crime goes down wherever you tear the building down. Imagine what the crime rate would be in Englewood, where 40% of the buildings are gone, if they were still there. It would be as bad as Honduras or Ecuador. Oh wait, it's as bad as Ecuador NOW! It would be 40% worse!

Crime statistics in this country is on its way to resemble Canada. at least 50% of crimes committed are not reported to the RCMP by the victims because they know the authorities can’t or won’t do anything about it. murders have a tendency of being labeled as accidents or suicides, the court system (The Crown) is a revolving door of Justices of the peace issuing peace bonds. It’s not that crime is low in Canada It’s just as bad as it is here and in some places like Saskatoon it is much worse. It’s just that the people (and folks) of Canada take care of business themselves and leave the law out of it.

Don't worry about those gunshot sounds they are really just fireworks because folks are so dog gone happy they want to celebrate their new found prosperity in Covid City. Dead body rumors, people shot? Trump is dumping dead bodies and shooting victims in the city from Indiana and other states just to make us look bad. Orange man bad, repeat on the hour. Be sure to Wear your masks comrades because we are watching some of you. Don't worry about all those businesses that won't reopen or the impending property tax and fee hikes. The reason other crime is down is because many crimes are no longer officially defined as crimes. Thefts under $1,000, for example, are no longer recognized in Cook Co as crimes by the Cook Co State’s Attorney’s Office. The criminals grasp this right away and go to work. The public is slow to pick up on it for various reasons, but eventually realize it’s pointless to report crimes that never get prosecuted. More crimes occur, but fewer get reported, and the stats go down.

As we all know, crimes such as catalytic converter theft and strong-armed robbery of cell phones are regularly downgraded to "misplaced property" or wiped off the books completely! Also, haven't several mass shootings been categorized as "one incident" on a regular basis? Were all the lootings and burnings considered one incident during the riots?

"The thing is that no one cars about "overall" numbers - they care about bodies and bodies with extra holes in them,..."

SCC for once (or maybe twice) I have to disagree with you. Everyone cares about property crime. Homeowner care about burglaries and car burglaries, business owners care abut retail thefts, everyone cares about carjackings.

No one, and I mean no one, cares about homicides. BLM doesn't care, the black community doesn't care and the rest of us only see homicides as entertainment on the evening news.

It is ironic that there is only one group of people who care about homicides in general and black homicides in particular, and that is the police. Read your own postings. Even you, the cynical old (or young I don't know) cop who runs this blog worries about black on black homicides. It is only the police that work 24X7 to stem the flow of blood in the black community.

The police need to stop caring. It will be better for your mental, physical and financial health. Under a conservative reading of the Constitution the role of the police is reactive, not proactive. If Terry was decided to today it would have been overturned 7 to 2. Wake up! Be reactive, take those reports; the community has the responsibility crime prevention not you.

Black communities have always had a higher tolerance for all types of crime. Stop trying to apply other cultural values to the black community.

Overall crime can only be down for one reason. Too many people are too dead to report it. Either they are shot, shot dead, or dead from CV-19. With over 2700 CV-19 deaths in Chicago alone, and another 2100 in the rest of cook county people have other things on their minds. Or, they are dead already. Add in the self quarantining numbers and people staying away from protest areas and genuinely concerned for their safety, I assume the rates would be a little lower. No One should be taking any credit for any of this.
How come No self respecting media type ever asked "But why are shootings and Homicides so high"? Seems to be a natural follow up question. Anyone??? (crickets)

Well when citizens call to make a report, 911 transfers them to 311, and 311 hangs up on them over and over for several hours straight, that results in a reduction of crime being reported.

I've heard this complaint all summer long. People don't view waiting in a station for a report as Covid-friendly, so they just give up getting a report. You can't blame them. Perhaps there is a reduction in property crime being reported, or crimes like pick pocketing. The dept would need to define this reduction of overall crime.

It is amazing how crime goes down when your DA acts like a defense attorney and stops charging people with crimes.

Shoplifting is no longer a crime. Burning and looting are no longer crimes, throwing bricks at cops is no longer a crime if the cop was not issued a body cam. Seems like a conflict of interest to me but what do I know. I bet Cabrini Kim has a decent win/loss percentage since so few cases go to trial anymore. All those plea deals help that percentage. You watch in certain circles she will claim she has been "tough on crime" an will brag about how few cases she has lost.

Thefts are down downtown due to less opportunities. No one going to work and many businesses still closed or just recently restocked and opening. Going out of business signs popping up. Can’t wait for all the dollar stores to move in. I’m excited for round two of the democratic children looting event coming for this Fall election.

    8/02/2020 09:20:00 AM

    * With no restaurants/stores operating, rats are not fed three times a day with the garbage set-outs, so they have been eating each other in a big way. Pix of French Quarter, like Rats R Us in broad daylight...

    * Yup, looting/rioting is now for both victories and defeats. Makes no difference. Big chains teach a rotten lesson by rebuilding/restocking no matter what. Stores in worst areas are on artificial life support, they are a net loss financed from the pockets of normals because.of ceaseless race-carding and threats from "reverends," &c.

Saw Chicago burn in '68 - later, a Bill Mauldin cartoon appeared in the Tribune, and was reprinted in the World Book Encyclopedia '68 yearbook. Two young black guys sitting on curb with smoking wreckage in background.

"Tell me again why we burned down all those businesses."

"Because of jobs, man! We need jobs."

...and FIFTY YEARS LATER, WE ARE STILL IN THE SAME SITUATION.

Don't wonder why older people sometimes just sit and stare at things.

    *

Be prepared to be robbed is the message of the Minneapolis police department according to a letter sent out to their 3rd precinct residents.

A quick translation: Give the criminals everything they want, be a good victim, we can not protect you.

Three years on, looking to move from parent's house and my god there is no where to live on a single salary. Plenty of places outside of Chicago but inside, either rent is crazy with no parking or property crime / robberies/batteries are a real concern.

    8/02/2020 02:16:00 PM

Condo-building craze late 90s/early 00s displaced a huge number of people - quietly. No mass movements or spokesmen or demonstrations, they were alone with no help and had a lot of boxes to move...

When bottom fell out of boom, hopes were to use unsold condos as rentals until things turned around again - except that if you couldn't afford to buy a 3br/2 1/2ba condo, you couldn't afford to rent one either.

Now they're trying to Section 8 a lot of them - with the Satanic federal provisions that mix senior citizens in with people from the projects - so your last years will be comfy living with the same people you spent decades moving AWAY from...

HUD knows this. They intend this.

How about car jacking and robberies? Overall numbers are NOT down. Police do not and cannot be proactive anymore so many crimes are just not engaged or reported. One example are the lootings, store thefts and arson. Stores where robbed of tens of thousands of items of merchandise by tens of dozens of perpetrators. Downtown businesses like high end retail shops and pharmacies regularly have strong armed shoplifters who walk out with items by the dozens. Each group of thefts are likely reported as one occurrence when in reality, it’s hundreds of group robberies. Police won’t or cannot engage. Many times criminals engage in crimes but police cannot actively pursue so many crimes that are perpetrated are likely not reported. Also, many crimes are reported at much lesser degrees. City should report the crimes based upon total dollars of theft and destruction - will give a clearer and probably darker picture. Bottom line - one is not safe anywhere now in the City.

There’s an uptick in the ointment of Restorative Justice.

    NY Post;
“777 New York City shootings so far in 2020 have surpassed the number of shootings for all of 2019,”

Think NYC is having it’s social justice woes?
We’re over 2300 Shot along with 454 Murders.
Our population +/-2.7 million vs. NYC’s 8.5 million

Crime Denier Clowns Larri & Da Bozio -
Know from coast-to-coast like butter & toast, one has a 6 years of progressive failure and corruption and the other just getting warmed up.

    Say...WHERE’S LARRI ?

A lot of people don't realize that Portland is 72% white and only 6% black. The city seems to have decided to synthesize its own rapid descent into the abyss.

They want to be Camden, N.J., they will get there - double-quick.

    It's too weird...

More than 150 rounds are fired during a shooting outside a Portland apartment - as city suffers its deadliest month for 30 years

If you have stupid teachers with pay raises, they turn out stupid reporters!

I'm thankful for the nuns. We learned and learned good!

    Who reads a newspaper anyway?

    NOT ILLINOIS. NOT LAW.

The thing is that no one cares about "overall" numbers - they care about bodies and bodies with extra holes in them, and by any stretch, these numbers indicate a massive failure.

True, but when the "news" leads with headlines like, "Crime Drops in Chicago" and the like, the average & below-average readers believe they're safer. The problem with that is, you can't let them feel too safe - Trump is still President.

Billboard sign reads Black Live Matter , so to our Chicago Public Schools , paid for by Chicago taxpayers , All Lives do not matter , only black lives . That is very Racist billboard .

Where have you been? It's always been that way. None of my kids have stepped inside of a CPS building and never will. We'll make sacrifices in order to not send them to CPS. We should know first hand what consequences follow bad education and parenting. Like pulling down statues.

Lies just like here in Cali by the corrupt Democrats. You guys as are beasts in Chicago. Mad respect. Here in Stockton we have more murders and shootings but property crime is down... Maybe people stop reporting because nothing gets done because prosecutors don't do shit. Just sayin... Bullshit.

You are so unrefined. When somebody is busy shooting and killing they don't have time for the other lesser crimes. Therefore we should all pray for more shootings and killings in order to lessen the other petty crimes. Good police work. Even better liberal commie lies.

7 people dead thus far this weekend. Will Brownie be giving his new start up units credit for the increase over last weekend? After all when there was a decrease it was because of his and the furher's new units,so they must take the blame when it goes up.
    8/02/2020 03:09:00 PM
    _____________________________

Mo, the simple reason crime is up is due to the fact these new units did not pick up sufficient bags of garbage in the Community. It was a low count and thereby failed to increase the Community Trust O Meter. Remember the Dummy from Dallas said "its all about building trust". If I am not mistaken, The Murder Queen said the same thing.

So a low Trust O Meter and the crime goes up. When the new units collect lots o garbage that Meter rises and crime goes down. That Dallas Brown sure knows his stuff. It's no wonder the Groot Juice selected this "Wizard of Smart" to be our guy. Crime problem solved.

"No one, and I mean no one, cares about homicides. BLM doesn't care, the black community doesn't care and the rest of us only see homicides as entertainment on the evening news".

    8/02/2020 08:39:00 AM

You mean unless it happens to someone you know, then you care. I do care about innocent kids being shot or killed, I think most people do, even the cynical ones. Gangbangers/drug dealers I care nothing about. People care about what happens in their own bubble, their own world. If property crimes are up in their neighborhood they care to some degree but most still vote with their feet or don't even bother to vote at all. So how much do they really care. Foxx feels no real backlash from folks for her making her own rules with regard to the law. So no, people don't really care much at all.

if crime is down why dont our elite live in the crime filled hoods ? well gov hoghead has police protection and dump trucks protecting his house and the groot has a whole battalion of racist police guarding her official digs but what about the others ? that is when they are actually here. at least the inbred daleys stayed in chicagostan, rahm started that be gone every weekend at my real house shit. ill believe crime is down when our public servants walk the streets without a third world security detail. politicians both local and federal didnt travel like saddam hussein back in the day, harry truman walked the streets of key west during ww2 with just two s.s. agents with revolvers. fuck these politicians with their private armys telling us all is well. and kim foxx should ride the red line to work, by herself, might change her perspective a little.

You can start by living within your means. No 600k house, no 80k Jeep, and unnecessary spending...
    Good luck.

    8/02/2020 05:02:00 PM

HUD has a Good Neighbor discount for foreclosures. Police, Fire, EMT's and scuzball teachers get a 50% discount at auctions. This will be a fine time to take advantage. And yes, that 80k Jeep is stupid with a capital $

C'mon now. You KNOW why they print it.

    1) It's "news" that's handed to them, pre-written. No work involved.
    2) Furtherance of the Lightfoot/Liberal agenda.
