Here We Go Again

  • Bird, Lime and Spin will take part in a second pilot program starting Aug. 12 in an effort to settle once and for all if scooters should be allowed on Chicago’s streets.

The three firms will scatter 10,000 scooters across much of the city — four times as many allowed during the summer of 2019 — but the scooters will not be allowed downtown or along the Lakefront or 606 trails, according to the city’s rules.

Scooters are limited to 15 mph, cannot be ridden on sidewalks, and may only be operated from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. seven days a week. Unlike the rules in place during the first pilot program, all of the scooters must be locked to a fixed object at the end of a trip, such as bike racks and corrals and street signs.

After the first test run, aldermen repeatedly complained to city officials about riders dropping the scooters in the middle of sidewalks when their rides ended, causing a hazard. The nine companies that participated in the first pilot program were invited to apply to participate in the second test run, officials said. Four applied, officials said.
So over half declined to participate in Round Two. Why is that?

Does anyone recall seeing exactly how much "revenue" was generated by scooters? Or how big the losses were suffered by scooter companies in terms of property? We don't think they lost that much because City Hall probably promised to cover at least some of the property loss (remember the pictures of scooters in trees or tossed in the river?)

How about injuries and deaths? We recall at least one fatality, numerous concussions and a few dozen lawsuits.

We don't recall if there were any drive-by scooter-by shootings though.

Has anyone driven downtown lately? Bird, Lime, and Spin, are driving all over on Divvy bikes just looking for a victim. It’s up for grabs down there.

Kim Foxx’s husband, Kelley Foxx, conveniently became a public policy administrator overnight for Bird during pilot program. Before that almost all insurance experience & since I’ve looked at his resume before, he seems to have padded it recently on LinkedIn. Conveniently now, he took a job with Instacart, a delivery service, right about when the pandemic was keeping us inside.

Will not be driven on sidewalks. What fucking alternative universe do these assholes live in? Just as a vacant lot grows disabled vehicles and all sorts of garbage, these scooters will be sprouting throughout the hood with even greater frequency.

Wasn't there already a robbery or carjack....was it involving these or a crowd that arrived on Divvy bikes, dumped the bikes, and stole the car?

People ARE going to get knocked down on the sidewalk here. That can be a death sentence for seniors.

Wonderful...

"The area in which scooters will be deployed is larger than last year’s limit to the West Side priority areas (chosen primarily because of the diminished access to Divvy bikes there compared to the rest of the city)."

...and why the "diminished access?"

Does that mean a lot of them were stolen or wrecked?

Oops.

Some politician(s) are having to supplement their income due to the “Rona”. Times are tough and they have to settle for back alley payoffs from scooter and bike share companies. It’s the Chicago way.

Why?

I just do not understand the entire business idea.

How many hours does the scooter need to be leased just to pay for the scooter?
How many hours to pay for the service and support staff?

I was in Oakland a couple of years ago. Scooters were littering the place like trash outside a westside quickie mart.
Scooters in the middle of sidewalks.
Scooters up against buildings.
Scooters hanging from trees.
All over the place. Filth, real filth.

They now have housing, transportation and communication all provided by the government. They also have diplomatic immunity provided by Crimesha. These are the soldiers the 3rd Amendment anticipated. "No Soldier shall, in time of peace be quartered in any house, without the consent of the Owner, nor in time of war, but in a manner to be prescribed by law."
The founders could not have predicted cell phones or link cards, but they did recognize the dangers of being coerced into co existing with paramilitary occupational forces. We are housing and also feeding and transporting and defending an inferior occupational force that has declared themselves an enemy of the people. When you consider that the left "projects" their crimes onto us, they also project the remedy. DEFUND THESE MUTTS! Trump has taken the first step by halting Obama's penetration of the suburbs by declaring public housing as the expansion of crime and ending the effort to include public housing in the suburbs. It's a good first step. All is not lost. There are good people in these hell holes, it's time to turn them and include them in the process. We now need to identify abusers of section 8 and EVICT THEM.

10,000 scooters get the OK to go outside when downtown is mostly shut down?
Water taxis were banned from the river because of the flu.
Scooters somehow offering more public health safety?
Why is everyone else under some sort of freedom limits?
As if Divvy’s weren’t enough, there’s the whole feral pack hijackers thing.

Larri is doing a Rahm, she approved the agreement with certain conditions that will be a benefit for her dismal campaign war chest.
Like the Segways and these fad scooter companies will exist of a years or two, get all sorts of Going Green grants, sell off and go under stiffing the investors and creditors.

They claim 34% folks use scooters to get to public transportation, the dwindling bus ridership or the deadly subways and platforms of CTA?
With very few businesses at full capacity due to the flu lockdowns and impending second coming, WHO’S taking the CTA and what coffee shop employees are working that can afford a scooter loaner?

Stinks like political Pay and Play.

Someone brought up Covid 19. This is just one more example of the Covid scam. You can’t use your reusable grocery bags (the ones meant to save the planet), because they are an alleged Covid risk, but you can ride around on a bike or scooter shared by God knows how many people. I live next to a Divvy station. I’ve not seen Divvy personnel out here in over a month & when I did see them, no one was sanitizing anything. Scamdemic indeed.

Allegedly Covid-19 is still a concern, so much so we have 22/23 states listed on our self-quarantine list. Yet, we are good to go on a shared ride scooter? What a load of b.s. Who’s getting fat off this? Lime just announced in June it was pulling out of 12 cities for failure to turn any worthwhile profit. Yet, only in Chicago, going broker by the hour, can we promise money.
