Five Different Tests?
If it was on paper, it's just a matter of reprogramming the ScanTron machine. This seems a bit of a overreach by a Department that can't even manage overtime expenditures responsibly:
- I don’t know who came up with the bonehead idea to give 5 DIFFERENT oral tests over 5 days for the Sgts. exam. But that’s what some moron in HR decided.
HR have a choice if they want to give a part 2 written all on 1 day, where everyone takes the exact same test. I was told a written test was even made already.
But According to downtown, they have decided to give only an oral test. How is it possibly legal to give 5 different oral tests? It can’t be. This is beyond Dumb even for Chicago.
Legal? As long as they announce it in advance and supply everyone with the appropriate reading materials, it surely is.
But manageable? And cheat-proof?
Would you bet money on it?

The anointed ones will all be given the same oral test, easier to ensure they score high enough. Can’t take a chance they get the wrong oral test after being given the answers.

Legal? Are you fucking kidding me? You guy have no idea how this works huh? Well, pull up a chair and I'll 'splain it to ya. You see these tests only come under scrutiny in one instance.... not enough blacks ... period. That's not a racist statement, that's a fact. Remember all yee ol 'timers when we took the entrance test? 'Well Qualified,' ' Qualified' and "Not Qualified' (or whatever the third one was) You remember the Fire Dept test in like '95 which had the same categories? The candidates who were 'qualified' did not get on and they sued (and won - like 15 years back pay and senority can you imagine?)? Well, like I said, they won because blacks were not hired at a rate 4/5 that of the dominant race. Prima Facie case when that happens, meaning it can proceed to a court hearing. Now if that 4/5 comes into play the burden shifts to the city to prove the validity of the test. The judge ruled taking notes from a video played on the TV and then tested on it, did NOT predict firefighter performance. Poof. The 'qualified' were victors. Now this doesn't happen with entrance tests anymore because some bizarrely low bar is set and then the City goes by the last digit of the SS#. Ask any new guy he/she knows all about this. I contend the racial numbers are manipulated so the blacks are never below the 4/5 number, and therefore never have a prima facie case under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1965, so it never goes to court, and the test is never scrutinized. Everyone is happy, all except the guy who was passed over for not having the correct final digit in his/her SS#, even though he has a higher score.
1 test given to M/2's, 1 test given to 1's, 1 test gay, 1 test women, last test relatives. X amount off each one.
That’s one test for each person that still wants to be a sergeant.

One test for the unconnected, one test for any Black officer, one test for and Brown officer, one test for and not male officer and finally one test for the connected merit people. Four of the five tests will be handed out prior to the test day the fifth test will be kept secret, will leave it to you to determine which test will be kept secret. Clout and payoffs above all in the CPD. Always has and always will be the case.
Boy a lot of cash is about to change hands in the CPD, what is the 2020going rate for the Sargent's stripes these days? My guess 15-20k?
LOL tests are all smoke and mirrors the Official Promotion List is already in Browns desk drawer. The Chicago Way prevails once again, and the Clout calls have been made and any necessary cash transactions are done. Just curious what is the Chicago Value of a one step bump these days?

I hope I get day 1. I’m putting up all the questions I get here. Hopefully day 2,3,4 people do this as well. It would be hilarious when people who went on day five all get the highest scores.
Only 1 of the 5 will get you promoted, and guess who will be given that 1 correct test, yup, those chosen for the “study” groups.

How will they accommodate people who have to quarantine due to positive tests or exposure? Also how can they have this many people in a building at the same time? I thought the new world order banned that sort of thing.
No thank you. I would never want to be put into that position of riding the fine line between supporting your troops and having to throw them under the bus if/when they mess up. Here’s the truth The multiple choice test should count for 80% of score , but it should be for people that scored between 70% -100% in rank order . Now the oral should be pass fail .
Sad but true Lightfoot made a score of 59% passing so she would have her male black supporters eligible to move on to part two .
Is that part of federal consent decree. 50% is a passing score for male blacks .

The only obligation is that The City has to administer an exam. How they do it has always been their prerogative, how they cheat the system (field leveling) was challenged many times over and we still have cheaters running the show.
In these challenging times, maybe a StayAtHome Exam will be administered by logging on to the CPS website and clicking the appropriate portal. We have to give those who are in the At-Risk community an opportunity to safely participate without the fear of contracting this deadly disease that President Trump refuses to do anything about. Mail-In Exams are also on the table.
Besides, Part 2 is for nerds.
All others - Notify the Watch Commander.
Under CIVIL law, everyone must be given the exact same test.
Only the FOP or a candidate who is a lawyer can ensure this happens by legal intervention.

What these posters stated, obviously in da know....
FOP. Demand all tests kept for 10 years
FOIA recordings of all candidates that scored u Dre a 70% on wriiten test and are promoted because of oral skills , I meant test .
Many that are tutored in police cruisers are often promoted .
This new batch of testing sergeants will be a new low for incompetence in our department. The last few classes of sergeants are full of people who are skilled, but deeply regret taking the promotion. When presented with the offer, if you have a family to support, you have no choice but to take the promotion. What's the best way to not get stuck in this position? Don't take the test at all so you'll never get the offer. Most people with time on the job enough to remember what real policing was said hell no to this test. What you're going to be left with now are your 4-5 year POs who will be making sergeant with under 10 years on the job. These are people who haven't been around long enough to really experience getting screwed on this job. The same People who are still getting into chases, crashing cars, making tik-tok videos in full uniform, ect. If you have enough time on the job you'll be ok. You'll just ignore them when they come to your calls or nod your head when they try to tell you how to do something. Just like a merit sergeant. But if you're young and don't know any better, these are the people your going to be asking for help. The future of this department is bleak. I'm glad I'm almost done.

The test needs to be given on 1 day.
Same test , one group reports to lane tech at 0800 hrs
Another group to wright jr college at 0900 hrs
AnOther group at Curie High 0930 hrs
Another group at Daley Jr College at 1000 hrs
Everyone done by 1300 hrs . By 1000 hrs start releasing those that completed the tests.
Promotions wont happen until December. Captains, then Lieutenants then Sgts. Sgts will be close to 100 Lieutenants will be down close to 50 after everyone leaves and captains made. Captains will be short 12 to 16 depending on exempt moves after October exodus. Don't staffing requirements kick in under consent decree in 2021?

I'm sorry, but there is no reason to read all of the comments. It is not legit. It sucks. People will have the answers. The test will be re-scored AFTER the city looks at it to make it more "fair."
All of that being said, FUCKING study and take the damn test.... You always have a chance. If you are in a great unit, remember things change and that unit may no longer be great or it may cease to exist....
I am a multi-ethnicity Caucasian . No real ethnic club to hang on to..But I'm not an idiot and like being the police so I'm guessing I think like the police or got really fucking lucky (it's luck, but oh well...Thinking like the police doesn't hurt...)
I have been promoted on the tests I've taken.
I didn't have the test, Did not grow up in Chicago so no clout, and I rarely think I'm the smartest person in the room....But I like to catch the bad guy and believe in right and wrong and I studied when I could (I couldn't at work - although I could copy stuff if there was toner :-)....
There is a chance. It sucks that it isn't fair, but we need LEADERS who know the job and want to do it..those that actually have to work for it when they're the underdog...Coppers need people to show them the right way...The future leaders need direction, the others need supervision...They all need leaders...I know I NEED the police to protect my family in this city and so do you...
Please study and do the work...I know it may seem like a useless effort due to the system, but no matter what, you know your job better in the end... I don't want the ones who didn't have to try.....Neither do the rest of the citizens who support us or the ones who don't. You can make it in a rigged system....I'm proof...
