Now that Chicago has all but killed the big tax-revenue-generators downtown, it's time to start picking on the little mom-and-pop joints:
The tables at Bella Notte Ristorante were set with white tablecloths, plates and silverware Tuesday afternoon, looking as if the place was ready for a lunch crowd. But one glance at the bar, and guests would see bottles of wine and liquor being inventoried.
The Aguirre family has decided to close its beloved Chicago restaurant, at 1374 W. Grand Ave., just a few weeks before what would have been its 28th anniversary and move to Downers Grove.

“Our sign permit expired in November. It’s $75 for the permit but the city fined us $1,000. Same for our awning permit,” Aguirre said Tuesday. “The light on the exit light was out. Instead of letting us repair it on the spot, they wrote us up and gave us a fine. They aren’t business friendly at all. In all, we have $21,000 in fines from the city.”
Later in the article, it says the Department of Public Health didn't have anything to do with these fines. The Department of Buildings though.....they aren't answering the phones.
It's going to be great to see BJ's progressive agenda run out of money in short order. It's going to be less funny when he stops paying overtime to man the beat cars.

It was bittersweet leaving there after retirement, but it was a complete necessity for a myriad of reasons.
It’s getting to the point where I don’t want to even come back to visit family and friends the few times a year. I start feeling sick the closer I get to crossing the state line into that shithole state.
Feels sooooo nice to be out of that Democratic Prison.
The developers of Lincoln Yards are asking the Chicago Teachers Pension Fund to bail out there project. It turns out it is taking a MAJOR SHIT.

A check of the online Chgo. Bd. of Elections indicates that this business may have not made any political contributions. Some similar larger businesses have and appear to be thriving. Think of how many small businesses went under during the Covid lockdown. The large chains can absorb the zings (fines) small businesses can’t. The taxing and licenses take a toll. Success to that business in Downers Grove. We go to the burbs to shop & dine because it’s just not worth becoming a victim and did too many years playing the police. Tired of it. And yes the predators are going into the burbs. The Democrats are like the Wuhan virus of crime & destruction. No more “Land of Lincoln”, how about “Land of Leaving”!

Lots of closures on NW side since covid and riots. Jeff Park looks like dilapidated ghost town. Closure cancer spreading to Gladstone and Norwood Park areas too.
Good for them. If any of you reading this blog are not making plans to leave city, you’re just plain stupid. Get out before they inact the leaving the city tax. Think I am kidding, just wait. Intact Fatso is contemplating the same tax for exiting the state.

The independent restaurants are more than welcome here in DuPage County.
I can't wait for the taxpayers to move out of Chicago in sufficient numbers where the people who voted for "free stuff" start getting the bill for it. They'll find out how expensive "free stuff" is.
That restaurant has been a go to place on Grand for so long its a shame. But the good news is for those who no longer wanted to risk going into the city they will now open in a safe for now Downers Grove where they will be welcomed with open arms.
Lets screw over the law abiding citizens who work hard everyday to make a living just to be able to fund the west/south side lazy government feeding asses. You should have REASONABLE time to fix anything so minor!! This city will be another Detroit by the end of BJ's term!! As far as buildings not answering phones...This is the City that WORKS, at least thats what the logo says.

I did the math the other day and if the city seized the Sears Tower under emanate domain and turned it into a CHA illegal immigrant welcoming center the 11,000 illegals would each have 400 sq ft of space. Not only that but it would be Biggest Little Whore House in downtown chicago if the current reports are right.
Also the city could change the name of Michigan ave and call it the Mogadishu mile to promote tourism!

The powers that be won't be happy until every small business is under the boot of their fiefdom. If I were a current business looking to do business, I would open in the suburbs. Preferably, outside of Cook County, but close enough to Chicago to get their business anyways.
Then I would thumb my nose at the city and its rotten leadership everyday as I opened for business...
But then again, I would also do it outside of Illinois as well...Never mind.

I dont shop in Shitcago anymore. Luckily I live on the border and its easy avoiding this shithole. I'll never go downtown ever again and we used to go all the time to shows, restaurants. Last time we went down to see a musical there was a long line of seniors waiting to get in and about a dozen jackals eyeballing the line of oldsters just waiting to snare some meat. I gave them the hard "Im a cop" look and luckily they didn't beat down some 80yo for her purse, at least while I was there.
Downtown is an asshole infested shithole and thats on a good night. Cuns games? Sox games? Hawk games? never again. Ive been to this restaurant many times, they are terrific people and this is just a shame. Fundamentally this is just a fucked up city and its just going to get more and more unsafe. Thank God for Edgebrook at least.

We have that South in Mt Greenwood and West Beverly. Lots of vacant store fronts. Not surprised though with our Alderman, who wants to have pizza parties with BLM and said last years basement floods were our fault, not the cities. He sucks up to the liberals in Beverly and Morgan park so they vote for him blindly. We need to cut the number of Alderman in half.
These Businesses that are closing and get fines, just go ahead and file bankruptcy..fuck this City! The Lincoln yards project..wait till that finishes and see who frequents that area, esp at night. Yeah, typical city stuff, but don't blame Buildings. CDOT handles sign permits and they have always been slow. Then again, they likely lost a ton of folks to Covid burn out retirements. And the burnt out bulb? Building code violations in almost all cases have a compliance defense, so can't believe DoB wouldn't let them repair right then. Thing is, if DoAH is as messed up as it was, all bets are off. And no, BJ will NOT rein in 400 W Superior as he needs the cash!
I retired and moved out of Chicago ten years ago. I have never come back. Not once.
My family and friends are still there. If they want to see me, they must come visit me in my new state.
They all know that I will not cross into Illinois for any reason. Not a funeral,not a wedding,not a baptism, not a graduation. I'll gladly send a gift.
