Just a reminder to anyone reading - this isn't the 80's anymore. It's not the 90's either:
During his tumultuous stint as Chicago’s top cop, former police Supt. David Brown often touted the importance of taking guns off the streets.
“Each gun recovered, regardless of how, is a potential life saved,” Brown said at a news conference at police headquarters in June 2022.
Under his watch, the number of gun recoveries jumped as police leaders sought to tamp down spiking violent crime, with cops from the Calumet District helping to lead the charge.
How exactly a group of those officers recovered at least five guns is now being investigated by the Civilian Office of Police Accountability, the city’s police oversight agency. In one case, a suspicious seizure was flagged by the FBI.
We told people this years ago, after assorted tact team scandals and after citywide units were being investigated and disbanded - gun numbers, no matter how well intentioned and no matter how many bosses were pushing for it, would only end in heartbreak and a trip to 219 S. Dearborn.
This is just another example in a long history of examples.

IAD hit their lockers… Dumbfucks had 3 or 4 unregistered ghetto pistols between them.
Old school SOS guys? Pffttt!!! That was their SOP. Rurphy Mayl thought he was slicker than Dude, Inc. and played the same game. And lost. Clout minimized his repercussions.
Hell, even the mid-2010’s Area Sat Teams thought they’d try to go “old school” and play that stupid game. Giddy children with badges, using their own cell phones to have dude make the call to “lay out dat neener” for his freedom, rather than catch a 3 bag PCS case. Morons high-fiving that they got a pistol and then putting the whole team on a fabricated Weapons Turn-In or Found Property report.
What’s old is new again. There’ll always be goofs who think they’re smarter than the average bear, slicker than the next guy. Just like dirty motherfuckers who roll immigrants on traffic stops or peel off dope dealers; they eventually get caught and you think to yourself “no one’s dumb enough to do this shit”. And then a few years pass and someone else steps up to the plate.

You forgot to add, no boss will back you up during your illegal searches or civil rights violations. When I worked tac, I would tell my Sgt to not tell me verbally to do illegal stuff but send me an email instead. Yes, I'm no longer on tac and yes, I'm not looking at federal prison either. It amazes me this is still going on.

These MMQB’s and Florida retirees can teach your stupid ass a lot if only you’d shut up and listen.
We made it to retirement because we AREN’T dumb. We learned from the mistakes of the past and observing those coppers who got jammed up along the way while we on the job.
“Angry and miserable”? Nope. Happy as clam collecting a well-deserved pension on top of the pterodactyl-sized nest egg I accumulated trading and running my side business on CPD time.

Yep. That officer was an actually assigned to an outside unit working regularly in 011. Did the ol’ squeeze move and brought the gun up to the acting DS on 3w to inventory. Acting DS knew what was going on cuz this team was rumored to do this regularly and we’re on their phones IN THE LOBBY WITH DUDE setting up the whole thing the day before and completing the transaction this next day. Lo and behold? PO brings gun up to inventory and acting DS sees there’s no firing pin in it. He pulled the whole team outside after making them leave their radios cell phones and schooled them on who sets guns out for the police w/o firing pins. How some fellas in 011 got caught up doing the same exact thing in the mid 90s. GP saved those boys asses.

I finished up in 050. It took me 29 years to get there but my advice is do whatever is necessary to get there. Even with the little Hobbit running the unit the airports are still the best place to be. You can catch the Hawk's games, ogle the broads, and best of all rarely arrest anyone.
If your coming from some shithole like 003 to 050 its like coming from Mogadishu to Alberta Canada.
The ONLY way seizing guns becomes effective is if there is an arrest with every gun, felony or federal charges, vigorous prosecutions, convictions and jail or prison time. Otherwise it doesn't solve a single problem and is nothing more than a "stat".

I remember that exact day as I was waiting in line to get an inv approved. wasn’t quite sure what the hell was up but I knew it was serious from the looks on those kids faces when they all went out to the alley to talk. then I heard the actor DS say sumthin about iad and no firing pin when he came back to the desk. then I figured it out. I learned a valuable lesson that day just by being in the right place at the right time. wonder what ever came of that

Your statement/question is nonsensical. Ostensibly, if a copper caught Murray with a pistol, they would’ve arrested him for same. Did coppers trade pistol for pistol(s)? I don’t know. But if that’s what you’re trying to say, then one could correctly surmise that there’d by LESS guns available to the likes of Blue.
And FWIW. Murray was an 011th District guy almost exclusively (4306 W. Maypole) and didn’t frequent 015 until he needed a place to hide out after we made 011 a bit too uncomfortable for him and the boys.
I’m 100% against the “guns for freedom” bullshit, but the point you’re trying to make has zero correlation to the dynamics of Dans murder and Mikes attempted murder.

The legal landscape of seizing guns has changed remarkably in the past few years in the wake of the McDonald and Heller decisions. Even though those decisions are about 10 to 15 years old, they were largely ignored by the courts and cities. The Bruen decision in 2022 is causing a tidal wave change in Second Amendment rights, rippling through the courts. Even though many states, like Illinois, California, Washington, Massachusetts and others have passed laws that contradict the above decisions. Eventually they will probably be overturned.
Also in the last decade there has been a tremendous surge in gun sales with a significant percentage of purchasers first time gun buyers.
But I am sure the Legal Affairs office has kept the rank and file officers fully apprised of those changes.
He can't be a South Sider. South Siders get the job done and they are not Gurly men.
