Supernintendo Finalists on Tap
Though we suppose "on tap" might be a bit insensitive after the incident Monday morning at the Academy:
Mayor Brandon Johnson will soon be on the 30-day clock to make the most important appointment that any Chicago mayor can make — a choice that could define his tenure and even how long he remains in office.
The Community Commission for Public Safety and Accountability will hold an executive session at 3:30 p.m. Thursday to discuss background checks on the six semifinalists for Chicago Police Department superintendent, then choose three finalists from among those names.
After the executive session, the commission’s public meeting is at 6:30 p.m. in the auditorium of Kennedy-King College, 740 W. 63rd St., to take a formal vote on the three finalists.
Once Johnson gets those names, the clock starts ticking. The new mayor will have 30 days to either choose one of those finalists or reject them all and ask for another nationwide search that produces three more names.
Once again, a decidedly unimpressive group of semifinalists, and as posted in our comments last week, the backgrounds of a couple of these applicants are....how should we say it?
"Scandalicious" might be a good word. Financial improprieties, sexual harassment histories, misconduct allegations.
Mayor BJ might want to start over, unless his actual aim is to keep the media attention on the clusterfuck that is the CPD and away from the emerging clusterfuck that is his governing style.

Come one SCC, you guys know this is business as usual. We all know why this department is messed up. I'm glad I retired on my mid 40's and collecting already, HOW? WELL, you just have to be smart. I learned how to hate the job and anyone with a white shirt (except a few)

Bring back EJ. The fun times and intrigue that he brought to the job was something, like only a Hollywood thriller could write up. His final few months with that Lady McBeth type of wife and the eventual demise was something to behold. The standing up on the podium with the family announcing his future retirement and then the eventual downfall in the 009th district, oh boy, and the multiple domestic disturbances after, as well as his driver’s ludicrous allegations of sexual improprieties was classic. And her hastened lawsuit was even more shocking. Bring this back. Mayor Lefty could use this sideshow to take the heat off of his own ass.
Does the new Supt. Have to be able to do double-Dutch or is that just preferred?
Can each Canidate tell us what their rank score was on the sergeants and Lieutenants test.
Then we'll make a choice.

You could put General George Patton in as the new super and there would not be a noticeable improvement. There are CALEA policies in place that make any type of pro active police work too risky. Anything force review flags now can get you suspended without pay for up to a year or maybe even fired. The states attorneys office might even choose to indict you if you have to defend yourself from an attack on your life and they don’t like how it looks on BWC. It’s not just here either. It’s happening in every democratically controlled city in the country. For self preservation reasons the police have pulled back and the criminals have noticed it. Obviously the committee didn't dig deep enough. Ask anyone who worked at the academy the last 20 years about 2 of them and the dude from Madison will be the clear winner.
Dear Brandon, this choice is very important as it will either make or break this department. Two of those people never earned anything their whole career and we all know it.
My buck is on the guy from Madison. He's a plant. There is no reason this guy should be a contender but alas he is.
Angel is a good dude, but shouldn't be Super. He'd knock up too many people before promoting them.
Snelling is a house-mouse with no street experience.
Literally a gym "rat". Guy gets paid for years to workoit. Never passed a test and earned anything. Kinda like "mighty mouse" who turned his district into Epstein Island

Word out of Madison is that Barnes had his department issued unmarked Tesla (yes, a Tesla) taken away for repeatedly going through Illinois tolls without paying which resulted in embarrassing toll violation notices being sent to the City of Madison. Just the kind of ethics you want in your next Super.
Anyone selected from the list by BJ will ensure that mediocrity in CPD leadership will continue.

When you listen to him talk it is if has speaks only from the consent decree playbook. He would be worst case scenario. The Madison guy would be a joke and snelling would at least be a Chicago candidate who had filled out at least one arrest report unlike Novales

I know that Snelling spent many years in the Academy and I have no personal experience with him in that position, however, I worked with him in Englewood back in the 90's and I can attest to the fact that he was a good street copper. Don't know how he got the Academy gig and don't care. He did the job in a crap-hole district and he did it well.

Couldn’t be l further from the truth . You must have something personal against him. Worked with/for him for years and he was a prince of a supervisor and knowledgeable . Recently he held roll call at tier deployment and was a gentleman there as well
Angel was absolutely the police and got shot doing this job. Like him or not he’s the police and has probably done more arrest reports than the others combined..
I'm hoping for Novalez, he took two for the company and excelled in every unit he has been in.
Angel is a good guy. Anyone who says he never worked the streets is wrong. He was shot chasing gangbangers not far from where Brian Strauss was killed in 012. I crossed paths with him over the years and his personality was always the same. I will admit that I fear he has drunk from the fountain of kool-aid, so I am cautiously optimistic.
