Let's Go Brandon

Demonstrating once again, Mayor BJ is a bought-and-paid-for shill for the CTU:

  • The Fraternal Order of Police is vowing to go to court to force Mayor Brandon Johnson’s hand after the mayor rejected the union’s demand for the same 12 weeks of paid parental leave that Johnson granted to Chicago teachers and other CPS employees.

In a YouTube video posted late Friday, FOP President John Catanzara lambasted Johnson for establishing one standard of benefits for the mayor’s former union and another, lesser standard for the union representing rank-and-file Chicago Police Department officers.

“This mayor claims he is a union mayor. It couldn’t be farther from the truth. He has had several weeks now to do the right thing and grant parental leave to our members. He claims that this should’ve never been a collective bargaining right. That it’s just morally the right thing to do, which is why he did it for the teachers,” Catanzara told his members.

The rank-and-file aren't asking for anything over-and-above what other city workers got without negotiating or surrendering a single benefit. But a progressive commie mayor who spent years helping shape the anti-police narrative for the CTU, treating a group of individuals who cannot strike, well....

Ohh you're gonna make sure we are getting the same benefits as other city unions ? See above.

I'm at the point it's time to face facts. This union has been shit for quite sometime and it maybe time to see if the Teamsters or anyone that can give us an ability to strike, in lieu of us striking which we can't do, is available. The only thing this dumb fuck of a city government understands is striking. So its maybe time to look elsewhere other than cops to get this thing back on the right track.

Let me know JCat what you or the FOP before you have done for us this last decade without saying we fought - I want to know what YOUVE WON for us as a WHOLE.

The mayors staff continues to mention the medical roll policy and its flexibility. I didn’t realize that you could use the medical roll for parental leave, I’ve never heard of being “allowed” to use the medical for any reason other than being sick. Do they even realize you can’t leave the house on the medical?

Regardless of how you voted or who you support Mayor Johnson is not getting the job done. I pray for the city that something good starts happening.

He gave the benefit of child leave to the teachers and they failed the children. They worked from home during COVID. A good amount of children are now committing crime and will become career criminals.

Whole thing is messed up!

12 weeks that you don't have to take consecutively. Think about that, 3 months for a job that only works 8 months a year. Guess that were gonna have to pay for more teachers as our population dwindles.

I can’t wait until this issue is tied up in courts for the next two years then he quietly tells us “yay the city finally caved and said we’re getting two weeks of parental leave….. oh and by the way you’re losing these benefits in return.” What a joke

Are we surprised that the mayor that can’t pay his water bill for his shit-hole west side home with trees growing in the gutters refuses to issue the police the same rights as everyone else?

Don’t worry, the minute we actually manage to gain anything all the me-too clauses will kick in for every single city worker that isn’t police!

Sit at home and bond with the baby. Isn't that the whole point of this leave? Those 12 weeks isn't "fuck the city I gets mine" vacation time.

Cantazara has been blowing smoke up our asses when it comes to paternity leave. So since January he has been sitting on his hands not doing anything? Jcat also said its in part 2 of negotiations. FOP is fighting back to the bullshit lies the mayors office puts in articles.

Like everything else, in about a year when many people could of had the benefit we will lose in court and have it use medical time like CFD and the SGTs. The Vision slate has no vision.

The City of Chicago basically told Catanzara that you could have the “parental leave “ to just go on the medical and subtract it from your medical time . His response like always was “ go pound sand !” Now he’s going into court and risking the entire medical time as it is by doing that ! This guy doesn’t have a clue of what he’s doing ! You talk to people who voted for him and they say “ he speaks up ,” and what has that done for you ? Catanzara is bleeding you dry !

I never thought parental leave was a good idea. It's not fair for the people who will not have any more kids, and some who never will. We all know stories about women who have become the police and stay pregnant for the next 6-7 years staying on the medical far too long already.

It’s becoming more and more apparent that John is a paper tiger. All he does is run his mouth while whatever mayor might be in office continues to steam roll the FLOP and our CBA. Why do you think he is hell-bent on running for and winning national vice president? So he can gracefully bow out of running FOP lodge seven. John is only worried about John and a handful of the other board members and “friends” he made sure landed in nice spots. He’s done little to nothing that has benefited the membership as a whole. PS - a mole at the lodge says their little experiment with the health screenings was a bust, can’t wait to see how he spins that at the next meeting.

If you think John or anyone else on Washington gives a flying f*#K about your or any other members then you haven't been paying attention. John collects his pension ontop of taking Commanders pay from us. Not to mention the $80k truck he bought himself with our dues. We pay for his gas, his vacations, his health insurance till he's 65 and numerous other slush funds. Now we're paying his girlfriend Captians pay to "work" for John at the FOP. John's the worst president we have ever had running our Lodge.

CFD works a total of 82 days a year and has a similar medical section. As for the teachers, I'm not sure what their medical section looks like, but I do know they have holidays and weekends off, not to mention Christmas break, Spring Break and the entire summer off. So how many sick days does someone who works 176 days a year need?

Anyone remember when JCat vowed to go after Lightfoot and the exempts over the vaccine mandate by forcing cops to disclose their vaccine status and get vaccinated under threat of termination??? Remember the October 15, 2021 deadline??? Go watch his angry YouTube video when he said this. So where’s the class action lawsuit??? Will he follow through? Hahaha. Forced to get an experimental shot that had ZERO benefit or be fired. A shot that had zero impact on job performance or protecting the public. Forced to get a shot even after having Covid multiple times. This is OUTRAGEOUS! If there ever was a reason to sue, this is it. More talk no action. I’m sure Lightfoot and the exempts were shaking in their shoes.

One of his standard answers to what he’s done for the majority (as repeated ad nauseam when they campaigned and as broadcast on their campaign literature) was securing a few thousand Covid vaccine religious exemptions for the troops.

Only problem with THAT lie is some dude from the mounted unit (?) canine unit (?) - forgive my memory, retirement has been a blur - was the one who exposed how completely biased HR was towards approving CPDs exemptions. When the City knew the jig was up, they started approving them like it was going outta style. And then J-Kitty claimed it as the Lodge’s own work. Perhaps my facts are off, but ask the kids on Washington whether or not this is true. I’m sure they’ll be completely honest in their answer.

Mayor Johnson paints himself in corner by handing teachers paid parental leave
Now the Fraternal Order of Police — no surprise — wants the same benefit without bargaining. And Johnson gave Chicagoans another reason to think he’ll put his former CTU colleagues first by rubber-stamping whatever the teachers union wants.
By CST Editorial Board Updated Jun 14, 2023, 8:33am CD

It’s parental leave so I guess a male po could get off 3 months if wife had a baby. Mayor should just include CPD because if we wait for contract negotiations we may get it but will lose something else or not be allowed another benefit
Also will both parents if they are CPD get the 3 month maternity leave?

The City and the FOP had a long standing "Me too" clause in the contract. Whenever a new holiday was granted to City employees the Police and Fire departments also got it.

So a precedent has been established.

As for legal protection, the whole climate has changed. It has gone from the view that if the Police officer was trying to do the right thing, they were given the benefit of the doubt. But now COPA and the Police Board believe that the police are wrong from the get-go and the hearings are a mere formality to a foregone conclusion.

They are much of the problem. Nothing will actually get better no matter who is in charge of the FOP. Surely you must see that yourself. Hopefully something wiser and more mature than your comment above. Pointing out the facts of a city circling the drain, the merit folks running the circus and a likely worse mayor that last time ain't exactly "a hard on". And, he responds to his member's inquiries. Call him or write an email to him about your concern, he'll respond. He responded to me when I made an inquiry. Or, do you need a union rep to hold your hand? And why would you want to partner with another union that has no commonality or shared experience with us? Wise up fool!
