Good News
- A jury on Friday found a Chicago police officer not liable in the shooting death of a man in the South Shore neighborhood.
In 2018, the officer shot and killed Harith Augustus. It set off weeks of protests.
Body camera video appears to show a gun in Augustus' waistband, and it appeared he gripped the handle as the officer fired on the 37-year-old barber.
The body camera video was literally clear as day. After violently breaking away from the officers, his shirt rode up and the gun, holster and magazine were exposed to sight. The assailant was attempting to draw on the officers when he then began to assume room temperature.
Two possibilities here:
- assuming these were Corp Counsel lawyers, these were the greatest Corp Counsel lawyers in history. We've met plenty of Corp Counsel lawyers and that isn't a really high bar to clear;
- this was the smartest jury in history. Again, we've met more than a few juries drawn from the population of Cook County and this isn't a terribly high bar to clear either.
Be prepared for appeals of course, but congratulation on winning one.

Good job to all involved. Great news as I read this down in the trailer park on furlough.Coors lite time.
NO NO NO. No ghetto lottery for you
Attention 014 district personnel!!! Charity Sgt JK on days has zero street time. In street time, he's a PPO. Thank God the savage wasnât too well versed in unholstering. The delay as he fumbled the release may just have saved that copperâs life.
Iâm sure Iâm not alone when I say that I found it heartwarming to imagine what mustâve been going thru his peabrain as he feverishly struggled to free his gat to no avail. That had to be the longest second-and-a-half of his life.
I wonder if heâs doinâ fades down in HellâŚ
I wonder what the outcome would have been if this wasn't on video.
Boy am I tickled your back
Whomever it was along with the good Lord himself, we thank you!
There might be a slight bit of hope for the residents of Cook County based on this jury
It's about time.
Ive said this numerous times before, even when your right they make you wrong. If it wasnt for the video he would have been serving his prison sentence already. We are fucked with this current media and democrat slant on any police action which they always see as wrong against "the community".
How was this officer even charged in the first place?
HUZZAH!!
SOoooo glad you're back. Just a reader with family on the force. Used to start every day with your site. Enjoy your wit!
If itâs a federal case, the jury would be drawn from the northern district of Illinois. You know, free thinking folk who arenât swayed by the Chicago media.
My guess,outside counsel.
NICE WORK!!!
Fuck 71st and Jeffrey, absolute hell hole.
Time for the officer to sue the shit out of the ASA office, COPA and anyone else involved in this unlawful prosecution.

Good grief people. They weren't charged. It was a civil action, not a criminal prosecution. These types of comments illustrate how many civilians are posting on here.
And the cherry on top of this was seeing that asshat Locke Bowman with a sour puss because he lost.
Some of you here need to work on your reading comprehension. This officer was never criminally charged. This was a civil lawsuit filed by the family, which should have been tossed because this incident was clear as day. It should be known there are exceptional Attorneys at Corp Council. Hope you never have to meet them on a work related case, but theyâre out there and they have gone above and beyond for coppers unrightfully targeted.
Some California news.
When a felon says no-bail policy is bad. Itâs probably bad.

Hey DH, congrats and weâre all happy for ya, but we hope all the stress and worry that you went through during the whole civil lawsuit process, and the impact of being attacked on the stand for doing exactly what you were trained to do will now make you realize that none of the proactive policing that you still tried to do after the garbage bosses put u on a tac team in 001 a couple months after the shooting is worth it. Now either tie yourself to a good boss who cares about ya, and get a spot in caps or anywhere else except a unit that still wants numbers out of you, or get on a beat car and turn on the blinders and just respond to your assigned jobs and do reports the rest of your career. Because if youâre not a changed copper/person after all you just went through, and not part of the KMA club after this, then you should probably hang it up and switch careers while youâre still young enough to do so. Either way, all of us coppers know that you did what you had to do and that you probably saved yours and other coppers lives, and we thank you for that. Now hang up your backwards baseball cap and jeans and call it a career on your days of attempting to be a proactive cop. Because the very few that are still trying are being stripped and/or fired on a regular basis. We all thank you, and I hope you F/2 blonde partner especially thanks you for likely saving her life, because all of us who know her know that she would have never have been able to do what u did (and still to this day she still tries to steal your valor). From all of us that have actually been the police and have been on that same stand in civil court after doing what we were trained to doâŚâŚ great job. Now enjoy your personal life and put this job at the bottom of your priority list.
The city should fight all these attempts at The Ghetto Lottery and teach the low-life attorney's that it will cost them lots of time & money to lose!

One doesnât gain admission to âThe KMA Clubâ after becoming disgruntled and disenfranchised with this job after being put through the wringer, kid.
Iâll bet you tell 003rd District war stories at family gatherings. Am I right?

Suggestion to leadership from a non copper: Five officer teams deployed on multiple traffic stops between 11pm-7am. Stops on likely avenues of approach to victim heavy sites in Lincoln Park, Bucktown etc. Vehicles stopped, courteous requests for license, registration. Special attention paid to vehicles with two or more youngish males. Be careful: CWB site has mentioned offenders with RIFLES.

How can there be appeals? Not guilty, double jeopardy.
Unless the Feds fill some civil rights violation BS.

OK Mr. Non Copper. How do you propose they get them to stop? Because they just drive away from traffic stops.

Yes there is , civil court is different, and the northern dist is super progressive. They ( criminals family) will eventually get money, not as much but the judge can say " the jury made an error" retrial , get the idea. The jurisdiction we live in hate law enforcement. They take every filed lawsuit. Even when felons lie in court , get caught in a lie it means absolutely nothing, no sections let alone perjury. & one last thought for you, remember that whole indemnification motion all those liberals wanted to take away, well the northern district court never allowed that coverage anyway. Police in this area of the nation don't have indemnification.
I wouldnât worry about appeals in a lawsuit especially if this was a jury verdict. They would have to show intense malfeasance from the defense in this case to get a new trial. They can try all they want but itâs not likely. Wanna know why?? Because plaintiffs attorney would be on the hook for any appeals and motions to argue for a new trial. It would be another year with very long motions to be written, maybe another attorney who specializes in appeals etc etc. an appeal costs money and itâs all on the attorney. Itâs a huge gamble to take. Most plaintiffs attorneys will cut bait and run and take the loss and focus on other cases in the pipeline to make that money back on the lost case.
