10-1 Comment
From the comments, this was a pretty good answer about rolling on 10-1s:
Unit 153 said...You know why you roll on a 10-1, regardless of distance?
With SOS, my partners and I drove from 007 to 025 one night for a 10-1. We made it in about 15 minutes while listening to gunfire on the Citywide. We didn't make it to the scene, but we were able to block Fullerton and Milwaukee so CFD could attempt to save Donny Marquez's life. You ever see an ambulance doing about 60 MPH to Illinois Masonic? I did and it was one of the scariest things ever.
That's why you roll on a 10-1, regardless of distance. You can still be useful.
We hadn't heard that the 006 District 10-1 was a mile or more out of the District, but this 153 Officer is correct - you can still be useful blocking traffic should the need arise to get an injured cop or firefighter to a trauma center and Mapquest puts them at over a dozen miles from the shooting.
Sadly, this is something "merit" people will never understand because they were never in the trenches. Watch out for each other, because no one else will.

Protect your six & protect your partners six! At the end of the day you are all each other has!! Other than the other men & women who are right there with you. The saddest part is that your bosses never had their “tit” in a ringer because if they had they would have been happy to see blue lights as far as the eye can see. All of you are in my prayers every night. Stay safe centurions & guard us because we need you all. Not everyone is anti-cop God Bless & go home at end of watch!
Very well said.
At the end of the day, you ride on all 10-1’s. All of them.
You continue to roll (albeit slower) even after several “disregards” are given because things can again escalate in a second. And better to have and not need, than need and not have when it’s go time.
Hell, if you asked for “one car, no emergency” in 011 in the 90’s you’d have upward of 10 cars in a couple minutes. They’d appear almost as if out of thin air, the acrid smell of burning brakes permeating the air, the sirens of those who jumped out of their cars as they slammed them into ‘Park’ still wailing.
For. An. Assist. Times were different indeed.
Well said! Thanks
It's unfortunate any one would have that reaction to a 10-1, especially coming from she called command staff. But let's not look further, blue shirts do it to themselves as well. I've worked with lazy A'holes on this job that have refused to drive to 10-1's and honestly I never bothered pushing them to go. Why? Cause I felt that I would be in danger with just the attitude of the person I was with on that day. There are coppers who are not well liked for obvious reasons but you still go no matter how you feel about that person.
I’m an old guy I would travel as long as needed on a 10-1. No matter what the so-called bosses say we don’t have real bosses anymore like this moron that did this he does not belong on the job. The best thing he can do right now is turn in his badge. Go home work at McDonald’s if he can get a job there Enough is enough!the command staff is in shambles from the superintendent, so-called superintendent all the way down it’s disgraceful they will get no respect the people on the street don’t respect us when your own semi military so-called organization does not respect you you’re finished why do we have so many exempts? Why are they taking so much out of the pension fund when they retire, friends and family program , not skilled at all just able to do what they have to do to take care of their political sponsors they pay the tax in the form of whatever means necessary to keep their positions! The pension fund needs to Stand up take a vote. Don’t follow what City Hall tells them to do make the pension, the highest tested rank which would be Lieutenant all the rest of the ranks all the way up they make fist full of cash. Let them put that in the bank or a 401(k), then it is on the city and their political sponsors not on the hard-working Police officers that bust their ass or use the bust there ass not anymore enough is enough these clowns do not deserve to take our money anymore!
Retired CPD in Oklahoma says...
I remember working that day Feb. 1982 when William Fahey and Richard O'Brien were murdered. I think every available car in the city was moving. I remember Sgt. Fuss working out of his personal car off the clock.
What happened to this city, Little Richie sold it to the leftist,... rise Emanual and his fellow travelers.
Watch out for each other brothers and sisters, no one else will.
Better times await. Stay true.
.
Do like our CPD Tac Teams do...run lights and sirens to every 10-1. Then when it comes time to do paper (or have detectives attempt to get all the PO info on the scene to complete their paper) take off from the scene with the same speed as they got there.
Well said.
006 commander is inept and should still be an admin sgt. 007 commander should still be a caps officer. Two commanders who are merit all the way and both are frat brothers with Eric Carter. Carter made both of them merit Lt and then commander as his last order of business before retiring. Waller needs to right some wrongs…
Every one your readers should call IAD and make a complaint on 600. They have to take it right?
Merit=Clout
Commander of 006- Mike Tate
Commander of 007- Lewis Courts
Commander of Area Central - Arleiseiu Watson
All were made merit Sgt and Lt.( Watson merit detective as well). They made Lt last July and all were assigned immediately to a unit. Never once were they the watch commander or field Lt. They never touched one TRR or Arrest report. Promoted solely because they were friends with Carter. Pathetic.
With respect to “PapaBoners” comment;
Once upon a time I was writing a mover on Hamlin/Washington, across from the 19/12 story building on the west side of the street.
(1135 would climb up on the roof to do surveillance on Springfield and Jackson, but that story is for another time).
Hot day, windows rolled up, my head down, and all of a sudden my windshield shattered. I thought they were shooting from the building across the street.
I called a 10-1, and in the time it took to open my door and step out of my vehicle, there were three cars surrounding me, giving me cover. It turns out it was BooBoo throwing an empty bottle of Remy Martin, (a fine cognac), and hitting my windshield square in the center.
I spent more time than I should have in 011, but the people I worked with were true friends, and true police.
God bless them all.
The Supreme Court decision on AA should absolutely apply to "merit" promotions. Incompetence demonstrated.
Tate, Courts & Watson are all LOSERS! They should not even be on The Job! It's just sick what AA, a/k/a "merits" have done....
These are the type of commanders that will get people hurt when shit it's the fan.
Just like Braz downtown in 2020..
He safe and take care of each other and for the few front line Bosses who still look out for their people, Thank you.
Just made 29 years a couple of days ago and sorry to see how this once great department has fallen.
I remember a 10-1 officer down occurred 4 blocks into 007 (railroad police shot) and when someone who was listening to both zones relayed the info on 003 zone a cheating LT forbid any 003rd district units from leaving the district.

Well said, you young coppers better read this a few times! These exempts are draining the pension fund with their huge payouts. They are drawing enormous pensions for the rest of their lives based on politics, friends, and family. They are draining some much there will be none left for your pension, do something before it is too late!
I remember a certain merit hack Sgt. in 010 who was notorious for saying... time to go this way when he heard loud reports as he drove away in the opposite direction. Can anyone name him
The department has fallen. We hire desk or latering aspiring ppos and promote merit hacks with little to no brains to lead.
I would have went anyways and not said anything
When I worked in 004 I rode on 10-1s in 005,003,006, and 022, much less in 004. i figured fuck em, spar me if you gotta.
Back in the 90’s you would get chewed out if you did not respond to any 10-1 or if someone needed any kind of help.
RIP Lt. Jack Halpin. He taught his Watch in 009 well and by example. Great Leader
But holy shit if one of us ends up on disability…
Torture from what I hear.
Pension Fund trying to introduce a law whereas all disabled must turn in tax returns and cannot make a certain amount of money - they are going after Mullins and his Apple sauce. They found some schlock from Aurora to introduce the bill that only applies to Chicago police off.
Unfuckingbelievable
