The Candidates
As we said a few posts down, this list of candidates for supernintendo are decidedly unimpressive.
Some observations:
- Shon Barnes - former COPA hack, is the token outsider;
- Donna Rowling - we're told she doesn't have a single merit promotion in her background, so once again, the illusion of having someone competent inserted into the process;
- Angel Novalez - wounded in the line of duty, so he actually saw the street. Likely a wave at a bloc aldercreatures that this committee really really tried to find a qualified Hispanic;
- Migdalia Bulnes - multiple merit with few accomplishments on her record; Dark horse for first female super that groot didn't get to do;
- Ernest Cato III - didn't he retire? Multi-merit, rumored to be somewhat capable....and somewhat rah-rah for whatever politico needs him to be;
- Larry Snelling - another muti-merit whose testimony in Federal Court regarding Use of Force interpretations and instruction of same led to some very expensive verdicts.
As we said - unimpressive. A number of better candidates were overlooked and dismissed because Mayor BJ doesn't need to be overshadowed this early in his tenure.

How quickly they’ve forgotten that a gym instructor with limitless clout was instrumental in stripping coppers during the Covid portal process. He should be persona non grata along with every other soulless scumbag sellout (Loughran, Pontecore. Cline, Shemash, DeVries, et al) who participated in that charade. They all carried Larry’s water to keep their spots and that should NEVER be forgotten.
F#%k having current or former CPD at the helm moving forward. They’re all merit hacks in some capacity and therefore beholden to the machine.

We all know the hemorrhoid that won’t go away EC 3 is going to be the next Superintendant. How do I know you ask, because he is the worst possible choice for the job and hates the police he is supposed to supervise. BJ also hates the police. they are a match made in heaven. The only good thing about Cato getting the job is I will retire the next day.

Nothing new here but continued mediocrity from Lefty Johnson. Consideration for the position is not based on management and street experience but rather race, sexual orientation, denial, deception and lack of candor. Other qualities include the ability to prance like a Poodle, change weekly public safety plans and be the best "yes man/woman" that money can buy. It's the Chicago Way.

I'm so glad I've retired from this once wonderful job. But I never realized what police officers are, what I once was which was a PAWN to the system. I truly believed we were there for the betterment of our communities but instead police officers are there to the convenience of government as they please. I loved doing narcotics arrest thinking that if I locked up as many dealers I'm making a difference. Now I look back and realize that it's just a fantasy. So to those chasing dope punks don't get hurt or worst. Let them go, the system let them go. Be safe out there and don't take this job personal
Getting a Police Chief who would step up and bring law and order back to this city would take a miracle. Several things would need to fall into place and that would be a mayor who would unleash the police to do their job of protecting and serving the citizens of chicago, then it would involve having a states attorney who would do their job and prosecute said offenders under the laws which are already in place and not what they think it should be, then it would require a judicial system to enforce the duties and not put these offenders away for the crimes that they are committing. Good luck trying to get all those pieces into place.

They should investigate the city and this blank check they’re writing to pay coppers for overtime because of staff shortages.
This VSWO or whatever it’s called, is just to keep CPD’S CALEA credentials valid.
The city is paying coppers to essentially be on paper/working and not do a damn thing. Some don’t even step outside.
They need so many cops per capita working to stay CALEA certified.
Instead of hiring the amount of police Chicago is budgeted for (13,500), the city uses this liberal federal cash cow to pay overtime.

You say that the list of candidates is unimpressive.
The real question is why would anyone want the job?
Crime is rising. A swathe of citizens is totally antisocial and out of control
Manpower is thin, getting thinner and being ridden hard. The only summer weekends off you will see will be when you are in the Academy. No more lines of 20,000+ applicants banging on the entry door.
While the police job always had an element of risk, it is rising precipitously. The tragic murder of that bright young woman police officer has to have a chilling effect on this career choice.
Officers will also have to deal with COPA, whose procedure is to recommend firing. And the Police Board generally agrees.
And on top all that the Mayor has stated that he intends to reduce the police budget by 9% per year for the next 3 years.
I am surprised the City got any applications. Must be offering a ton of money.
Snelling was motivating 15 years ago in the academy. Maybe he’s still got it?
The light duty sgt in forensics would be a good candidate! Oh never mind it would be a huge pay cut from his $320,000.00 last year. Heard he's bragging he'll top it this year

Migdalia Bulnes destroyed the D-Unit and couldn’t recruit more than 5 people when she was put in charge of recruiting. She has risen all the way up to Street Deputy by merit. Never made one promotion on her own. It’s unbelievable she is where she is. All I can say is who is her clout.

Past Superintendents that were outsiders were garbage because they never worked a day as CPD and came from cities that couldn’t even compare to this one. ISP former/retired trooper Dave Byrd was in the running. He used to run the Eisenhower on 1st watch back in my 011th District days. Dave had more arrests on the West Side than ALL of those in the running in their whole careers. Dave did it all and it's unfortunate that he was passed by so easily. Being black and a TRUE Police Office, not like this group, Dave would've been the perfect fit because he understands how important the "job" is and that officers need to be allowed to do those jobs, and he could totally relate and explain to the different communities why the police do what they do in a given situation WITHOUT throwing officers under the bus simply because he's BEEN THERE!!! Doesn’t matter who they put in there, nothing will change until we get rid of that horrible “safety act” that Springfield passed. That bill makes all law enforcement agencies useless. Getting rid of Kim Foxx is a step in the right direction, but lots of work to be done.

A quick check of his history shows that is simply not true.
Everyone knows the Supt is the mayor’s puppet. It doesn’t matter if they *were* the real police at any point. They do whatever the mayor says because they be gettin’ PAID, homie! Selling out easy! Plus a bullshit résumé builder to go grift somewhere else and tell us all on TV that we’re racist cops keepin’ Joe and Co. down. Be safe out there, folks. (Or People).

Are you fucking kidding me? You’re really this gullible? All those instructors(Rubio, Snelling, Acevedo, etc)claimed they were there for a timeout. The reality was that they were all clout heavy hacks who went to the academy with less than 10 years OTJ. You needed some real wack to get there back then.

Because Waller is incompetent and Bradley is like a deer in headlights. He is only skating by. Nobody is crying about either one of them because they are nice guys. They are nice guys because they don't know anything and don't bother anyone because they don't know anything. But now since the media is up Fred's but, he's trying to grow some balls. Its way to late for that.
And I guess we are just going to forget about Bradley's whole domestic. It was around the same time that twice dumped Terry Williams, the only Exempt in the history of CPD who got dumped twice, had his Domestic in the 002nd District. What ever came of that?
I knew the game was fixed when Chief McDermott didn't get an interview. He grew his hair out for nothing. He is better than any of those listed. Cato is a waste. He could not be a Chief so he retired, but now all of a sudden his personal family reasons for retiring disappeared?

Novalez is merit too. The last time he has been in charge of anything to do with actual enforcement was when we was a Sgt(merit) at MSF(lol). Nice guy, but he’s been sucking balls for too long to know what is really going on.
Let’s be honest and fair, Donna Rowling never really worked the street either. Never made an arrest or used her handcuffs. She’s fine just where she is.
Bulnes, multi-merit snowflake. She’s cute and clouted. She’s had team, but she didn’t have to do any work, her teams did it for her. She is not qualified to lead the department.
