Speaking of Underwater Cars...
When can we expect a tally of the bill for the NASCAR event?
We think certain officials were bragging about an economic impact of something in the neighborhood of $130 million. Tying it to the Fourth of July holiday was a stroke of ....what's the opposite of genius?
Was there rain insurance? Rain checks? Concert make-up nights? And after shutting down a largish portion of lakefront, all of Grant Park and roads in-and-out of the lately deserted city streets, one has to weigh the economic losses against the race event that almost wasn't.
While we were gone, did anyone in the media form an actual investigative unit for these things?
Or is that too much to hope for?

How come no “exuberant youth” got hundreds of free $200 tickets from Edison Park or Clearing?
Asking for a friend…
A monorail would've made more sense.
Was just talking about this tonight. One of two things will happen: those numbers will NEVER get released, or BJ uses those numbers (or lack-there-of) to help force the cancelation of next year's race and he'll blame Lightfoot for the bad deal.
Retied CPD in Oklahoma says....
So much happier in Oklahoma... I'll take these dirt roads, and enjoy cruise night on the main street. Then going for ice cream.
Safe stay blue brothers and sisters, better times await us all.
Media investigative units are a thing of the past. They do, however, have DEI officers.
Former Mayor BugEyes is chuckling over this.
This is what happens when you elect/hire/promote according to identitarian politics.
People in charge don't realize that Chicago is only a service town nowadays. Chicago is not longer a destination. No meatpacking, no manufacturing, no more banking. If you tie up roads and parking for two weeks, and make it too dangerous for law abiding citizens, your economy will crater. Rosemont and Oak Brook have nice restaurants too. Chicago is a tourism mecca that is too dangerous for tourists.
Chicago Dumbocrats jumped on the Covid bandwagon. "Work at home". "Don't come downtown!" You know what is easy to do? Banking, insurance and trading. Easy to do online from Florida or Texas or the Carribean.
Don't need to ride the CTA, eat at restaurants or shop on Michigan Ave.
The highlight of the weekend was blm Brandon wearing his new kicks and skinny jeans...
No doubt the Feds (Biden) will toss some funds into Chicago to compensate BJ for costs in the guise of supporting NASCAR. A win-win for for both Red and Blue teams.
It was Rome.gov that gave the plebians their bread and circuses, right?
Boy whats a shitshow. Thank God the blog is back for some sanity.
I don’t know about that. During the rain delay both days you couldn’t find a bar or restaurant with an open seat. EVERYBODY was sitting in the bars downtown. Hotels were pretty full so I don’t think the rain effected much except the race. Tickets were already purchased so there’s no refund and the big race went on. I thought it was pretty cool to be honest.
Alleluia! Come ON Taste of Chicago!
Swifties made more money for this city than this nascar nonsense.
I watched that whole race waiting for a NASCAR carjacking. Sadly I was disappointed. Not even a pit row shooting.

Uh, yeah… ya think maybe there were no open seats at all those joints…
BECAUSE PEOPLE WANTED TO GET OUT OF THE RAIN ?
You gotta be a detective with those skills. Please tell me you’re a detective. Or a merit supervisor, perhaps? Which one is it?
🙄
Well I'd rather be an Okie from Muskogee.
I dont go downtown anymore, not for years. I'd go if I was paid but that kinda sends the money the wrong way doesn't it? I dont go anywhere where I might run into savages. I already took that ride in various ghetto shit hole Districts.
No ball games, now shows, no fancy restaurants, no museums, no NASCAR. I'd bet they even found a way to ruin NASCAR. I dont want to shoot or get shot at anymore. Like I said I took that trip already.
Yes, 130 million Lebanese Pounds. No matter how you spin it there is absolutely no way the city of Chicago made any tax money from the NASCAR event.
True enough. But it did prevent all the Red Line riders from swarming downtown and creating a real circus.
Maybe there was and the media didn't share it. Let's pretend
Not a fan of Beetlejuice or Nascar. I thought it was pretty cool to have Nascar turn our downtown streets into a racetrack and I hope they do it again!
And thirty five miles southwest near Joliet is an all but abandoned NASCAR track. Who is dumber, NASCAR or .... never mind.
Looked more like a figure 8 demolition derby.
Regarding an 'investigative media team', the only thing Chicago has to offer is the folks over at CWB.
All the rest are owned lock, stock and banana by The Machine.
The corrupt city government and their coconspirators in the media continues the Big Lie. The hard part is what to do with all those bodies sprawled out on the streets and the maimed and wounded filling the ER and hospitals. Mass shootings, thousands of spent rounds littering the streets and gun proliferation by criminals. As the city and media continue to call it gun violence, but nothing is done about the killers themselves. Instead, it's all those guns that mysteriously go off on their own accord. Yep, it must be those guns that somehow go off when the criminals are nearby. The city and the media said so - it must be true.
